Chapter 807 Qin Mei Complains to Jing Si

  • Next Chapter

"Stop. Don’t say things that will cause my daughter-in-law to misunderstand. It will affect the relationship between my son and his wife," Mrs. Xie interrupted Li Axiu.

"It’s the truth! You might be able to silence me, but can you silence everyone else?" Li Axiu’s face was flushed with anger. If Qiao Yanqiu had readily accepted her suggestion back then to call Jing Si back and have him register his marriage with Yaru—or even just hold the wedding banquet first, without the marriage certificate—would all these miserable things have happened?

"Is the child in Teacher Lin’s belly Jie Jingchen’s?" Qin Mei asked.

"Xiao Mei," Mrs. Xie said in surprise. Qin Mei gave her a reassuring smile.

Li Axiu gritted her teeth. If the child in her daughter’s belly belonged to Jie Jingchen, it would be a joyous occasion. The problem was, the child wasn’t Jie Jingchen’s; it was Jie Jingwei’s. She couldn’t forcefully frame Jie Jingchen even if she tried.

When no one else agreed with Qin Mei, Mrs. Xie chimed in. "It’s Jing Er’s."

"Since the child in Teacher Lin’s belly isn’t Jie Jingchen’s, what motive do I have to target her and kill her unborn child? Is it just because of the neighbors’ false rumors?" Qin Mei paused.

"Aunt Li, I hope you come to your senses," she continued. "Don’t be deceived by the real mastermind who killed your unborn grandchild. You need to understand that the person who married Jie Jingchen is me, not your daughter. Why would I be jealous of her? Why would I target her? Do I have too much time on my hands? To be jealous of a defeated opponent and target someone who isn’t even worthy of being called a romantic rival?"

When everyone heard this, they had to admit that her words were well-reasoned and completely logical.

Xu Chunyan narrowed her eyes, her gaze becoming as sharp and piercing as icicles. This Qin Mei really had a silver tongue.

Qin Mei’s argument wasn’t flawless. Xu Chunyan had the words to tear her logic to shreds, but it wasn’t her place to say them. If she spoke up, people would inevitably suspect her of having ulterior motives. Jie Anlin was the mouthpiece she had chosen, but looking at him now, it was obvious he had completely panicked.

He was truly useless, dropping the ball at such a crucial moment. She wasn’t afraid of a god-like opponent, but rather a pig-like teammate.

Xu Chunyan was dying of anxiety. If Jie Anlin didn’t refute Qin Mei soon, she would be the one pinned to the wall.

"Second Daughter-in-law Jing has a witness. Do you?" Granny asked.

The tight corners of Xu Chunyan’s mouth relaxed slightly. The old lady was reliable after all; older and wiser as always. She should have urged Jie Anlin to get the old lady to step forward as a witness sooner.

"Teacher Lin’s witness—you mean your beloved grandson?" Qin Mei pointed at Jie Anlin, a faint smile playing on her lips, though the amusement didn’t reach her eyes.

"That’s right. I’m Second Daughter-in-law Jing’s witness," Jie Anlin said, puffing out his chest.

"Did you hear it with your own ears, or see it with your own eyes?" Qin Mei asked him.

"I heard it with my own ears, and I saw it with my own eyes," Jie Anlin replied.

CLAP CLAP CLAP. Qin Mei raised her hands and clapped three times.

"Heard it with your own ears, and saw it with your own eyes," Qin Mei muttered. Suddenly, her tone shifted sharply, and she said with righteous indignation, "Then you left her to die!"

The crowd fell utterly silent.

Jie Anlin was dumbfounded.

"What do you mean, left her to die? Fourth Wife of Jing, don’t try to frame An Lin. You forcefully poured the medicine down Second Daughter-in-law Jing’s throat. How could he save her? Even an immortal deity descending from the heavens couldn’t have saved her," Granny said.

Qin Mei smiled at Granny. "Granny, come, let me break it down for you. Let’s say I committed the crime on the fourth floor. I went down to the third-floor stairwell and ran into Dad lecturing Jing Er. Then, Dad dragged me over to check your pulse. After that, I went with Dad to Mom’s office and listened to my aunts arguing endlessly over the hospitalization fees and who would take care of you. It was at least an hour, if not two, before your beloved grandson finally called for help. What was he doing during that hour? Waiting for the medicine to take effect?"

Granny choked on her words, left utterly speechless. No one refuted Qin Mei’s statement, because she was telling the truth. Mr. Xie could testify to the entire timeline.

Qin Mei sighed with regret. "If he had called for help immediately, perhaps with the doctors’ strenuous efforts, the child in Teacher Lin’s belly would have been fine."

Jie Anlin wanted to argue back, but he found it impossible to defend himself. Anyone would step forward to help a stranger in danger. Yet, when Second Daughter-in-law Jing was forcefully force-fed medicine, he had stood by and watched coldly. How could he possibly justify that?

Jie Anlin looked at Xu Chunyan, his eyes silently pleading for help on what to do.

Xu Chunyan’s eyes signaled a warning in return. She silently urged him to stay steady and not to panic.

"Mom, do you know who called for help for Teacher Lin?" Qin Mei asked Mrs. Xie, giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze.

Mrs. Xie thought back for a moment before replying, "According to the doctors who were in the emergency room with me, a nurse was the first to find her."

Mrs. Xie was lying. She genuinely had no idea. She only casually brought up a nurse because Qin Mei had given her a subtle hint.
