"Mom," Gao Qiang said, frantic.

When it came to a fight, Granny was invincible in the Gao family, but she stood no chance at all against the Qiao family.

Grandma Gao didn’t know which room was Xu Jiali’s, so she grabbed the first nurse she saw and asked, "Where is Xu Jiali’s room?"

The nurse happened to be on her way to Xu Jiali’s room. She sized up the furious Grandma Gao. "And you are...?"

"I’m Xu Jiali’s fiancé’s granny." Grandma Gao suppressed her anger, reverting to a kind-looking, amiable old woman.

"You’re Grandma Gao?" The nurse had been to the Qiao Family’s home with Dean Zhang. She was aware of the situation between Xu Jiali and Gao Qiang and had heard they were already discussing marriage.

"Yes, that’s me." Grandma Gao nodded amicably.

The nurse, having no reason to doubt her, led Grandma Gao to Xu Jiali’s room.

Xu Jiali was already awake. Only one nurse was standing guard by the hospital bed; another had gone to get Dean Zhang.

"Sister Li, Miss Jiali is awake," the nurse said to Sister Li, her gaze fixed on Grandma Gao. "Sister Li, who is this granny?"

"Grandma Gao." Sister Li didn’t mention that she was the grandmother of Xu Jiali’s fiancé.

"Sister Li, can you watch things for me? I need to step out for a moment," the nurse said to Nurse Li.

"Okay." Nurse Li waved at the other nurse.

"Thanks, Sister Li." The nurse expressed her thanks and walked out of the room.

Xu Jiali was still a bit dazed and hadn’t figured out the situation when Grandma Gao lost her patience. Dropping her kind and amiable mask, she shoved Nurse Li aside, rushed to the hospital bed, and raised her hand to slap Xu Jiali across the face.

Nurse Li was stunned. The slap left Xu Jiali even more dazed.

"You little slut! You have a terminal illness, yet you still dream of marrying my grandson and have the gall to demand such a high bride price! No wonder you were in such a hurry to marry into our Gao family. Turns out you don’t have long to live! My Gao family may be in decline, but we haven’t sunk so low as to marry a dying woman!" Grandma Gao cursed, her anger uncontrollable.

Xu Jiali was utterly bewildered.

Nurse Li grew anxious and snapped, "Grandma Gao!"

Grandma Gao looked at Xu Jiali’s face, so pale it was almost bloodless. ’What’s the difference between this and a corpse?’ The more she thought about it, the angrier she became, and she raised her hand to slap her again.

"Grandma Gao!" With swift reflexes, Nurse Li grabbed Grandma Gao’s wrist.

"Let go! I’m teaching my future granddaughter-in-law a lesson. What are you meddling for?" Grandma Gao glared at Nurse Li. Being elderly, she wasn’t as strong as the nurse and couldn’t break free from her grip.

"Grandma Gao, this is a hospital," Nurse Li reminded her.

"Sister Li, let her go," Xu Jiali said, her voice weak.

"Jiali." Nurse Li didn’t dare let go. The moment she did, Grandma Gao would hit Jiali.

"Get lost." Grandma Gao shoved Nurse Li with her other hand.

Nurse Li wasn’t about to indulge her. She started dragging her out of the room, but Grandma Gao, not as strong, plopped onto the floor without any regard for her image, desperately clutching the hospital bed.

As Nurse Li pulled, the hospital bed rattled. Afraid of hurting Xu Jiali, who was lying in the bed, Nurse Li let go of Grandma Gao.

At that moment, she was filled with regret. Grandma Gao never should have been brought to Xu Jiali’s room.

Grandma Gao began to curse and swear at Xu Jiali, her words vicious. Xu Jiali stared at Grandma Gao in astonishment. It was hard to imagine that someone of Grandma Gao’s status could spew such foul language.

Thinking of the things Gao Qiang had said to her, Xu Jiali’s heart filled with bitterness and shame.

"Gao Qiang and I have broken up," Xu Jiali said coldly.

’It was true that she loved Gao Qiang, but that was on the condition that he loved her back. Before Qiao Wei appeared, she had firmly believed that she and Gao Qiang were deeply in love. Only after Qiao Wei showed up did she realize that Gao Qiang’s love for her wasn’t so pure. In fact, it could be said that he didn’t love her at all. What he loved was her status as Madam Qiao’s niece.’

’Qiao Wei’s status was nobler than hers. All Qiao Wei had to do was crook her finger, and Gao Qiang would abandon her without a second thought, rushing to Qiao Wei’s side without a moment’s hesitation.’

’When she was dating Gao Qiang, her great-aunt hadn’t said anything, but she knew in her heart that her great-aunt disapproved. Even so, she had stayed with Gao Qiang. That is, until Jie Jingchen returned to Xiangjiang and told her bluntly that Gao Qiang was not a good match.’

’She hadn’t believed it. She’d even nearly had a falling out with Jie Jingchen over Gao Qiang. But facts proved that Jie Jingchen was right. She had loved the wrong person.’

’Qiao Wei was someone arranged by Jie Jingchen. Just as Qiao Wei herself had said, was a man who couldn’t withstand a single test truly worthy of her lifelong devotion?’

Grandma Gao was stunned. Xu Jiali wasn’t pestering her grandson. She should have been happy, but instead, she felt an inexplicable rage. "It’s not you who broke up with my grandson, it’s my grandson who doesn’t want you!"

Xu Jiali fell silent. It was true. Gao Qiang was the one who didn’t want her anymore. A wave of desolation washed over her heart.
