Chapter 273: Battle With The Blade God
It had now been exactly seven days since he came to the Tower, and the young man had advanced comfortably to the 87th floor. He still felt as though he could have done it in a shorter time if it weren’t for all the stumbling blocks—and one lust-filled goddess.
He sat on the edge of his bed. The 12 hours were almost up, and soon he would be involuntarily face-to-face with the Blade God, Romstad.
The only solace that came from this was that he finally got to use his sword, Excalibur, for the first time since he came to the Tower. He also had every single skill in Romstad’s arsenal copied and refined to their best possible versions.
Jacob could basically do everything the Blade God could do, but even better. Normally, this battle should have been a walkover. But Jacob was somehow still high off his pre-existing bloodlust, and as such, he had planned to make an example out of Romstad.
The constellation had disrespected him, undermining his sword skills, and as such, Jacob would respond in kind.
He had only 30 minutes to prepare for the battle. He sat in silence, taking deep breaths and enjoying how quiet the Tower was from his room.
The light draped in almost perfectly through the single window in the middle of the wall, washing the room with a golden glow that Jacob thought was almost heavenly.
…
He paused, then stretched his hand outward.
In less than a fraction of a second, Excalibur materialized in his firm, iron grip.
The young man studied the pristine-looking sword, a flashy blade that looked as though it had just been forged. Its blue was bright, like the endless sky. Soft waves of blue light moved across the blade, making it seem almost alive. Its edge was extremely sharp, cutting through the air with a soft sound.
Silver markings covered the blade from the tip to the handle. The handle was wrapped in dark-blue leather, with a bright sapphire in the center that pulsed with an eerie energy.
Jacob carefully admired the majestic and powerful weapon. The moment he held it, it felt as though he had instantly connected with a long-lost friend, their energies merging in a familiar manner.
A glint flashed in the young man’s bluish-gold eyes momentarily as the corner of his lips curled into a playful grin.
“I’ve missed you too, buddy,” he muttered slowly, running his finger across the length of the blade. “Let’s show them what we’ve got today.”
Jacob got up immediately, tucking the weapon back into his storage space. A black shirt made entirely out of cotton instantly manifested around his torso, and he was out of the room within a few seconds.
His destination was still unknown, as he had no idea where the battle would take place. But he knew that if there was any information to be passed around, it would definitely reach Uga.
Sure enough, the second he reached the lobby, he was joined by Uga, a large, dark, starry presence with hollow facial features and an ethereal voice.
“Your duel with the constellation, the Blade God Romstad, will start in 25 minutes, Jacob. Are you ready to enter the arena?” Uga inquired, its hollow eyes fixated entirely on the shorter, broad-shouldered young man.
“Uga, what did I say about asking if I’m ready?”
Jacob mirrored the creature’s gaze. He had gotten rather used to Uga’s appearance over the days, and as such, it did not affect him much anymore.
“Very well,” Uga responded.
A dark, hollow portal appeared before them almost instantly, its edges sharp, flickers of dark lightning flashing across every corner. It looked nothing like the regular portals they used to move around.
Jacob was certain that this portal led to a much different place.
Uga, like every other time they had stepped through a dimensional door, waited for Jacob to go first. It was clear that the creature took its job of guiding Jacob very seriously, and it followed very closely behind.
Jacob squeezed his hands into tight fists, narrowed his eyes, and walked directly through the portal, with Uga not far behind.
Jacob was immediately struck by a sight different from anything he had seen throughout his stay at the Tower of Sun.
The arena was a large, circular battlefield covered in dark-red stone. Its smooth surface was filled with cracks, as if countless sword fights had taken place there over the years. A thick red mist floated close to the ground, slowly moving around the fighters’ feet.
Tall walls surrounded the battlefield, glowing with faint red symbols. Above them stood huge stone pillars carved with pulsating ancient runes.
At the center of the arena was a large, raised circular platform. Red energy flowed through the cracks in its surface, making it look as though molten lava lay beneath the stone.
There were no obstacles or places to hide.
Only two warriors, their swords, and a wide battlefield where they could fight.
Atop the platform stood a man with short gray hair that was obviously greased and slicked over his forehead. A thin, curly mustache graced his bespectacled face.
The man was topless, but Jacob was not surprised to find that beneath all that corporate dressing lay a very toned body, broad shoulders, and pecs so large they could be mistaken for breasts.
Romstad’s arms were bandaged, and within his grip were two large Dadao swords. They hung like cutlasses, whining with unbridled, sheer bloodlust as the red lights reflected off them, giving a faint hint that these blades had claimed many lives.
“Welcome, Jacob. I trust you are well-rested and ready for our battle today. Rest assured that I will not hold back. And I do expect the same from you.”
Romstad sharpened the blades against each other, a high-pitched metallic shriek ringing against the walls.
“However, this battle is limited to sword techniques only. I am fully aware of your other… talents. And as such, I want to see just how much prowess you possess with a blade in your hands.”
“That’s fine by me,” Jacob responded, his eyes narrowed as he stepped onto the platform.
“Very well.”
Romstad pointed to a counter that stood eastward. It was covered completely in all sorts of blades.
“Have your pick, and let us begin.”
