When Jacob felt as though the creature had had enough, he raised a hand, signaling for Raijin to stop.

The dragon closed its flame-breathing jaws instantly and ducked into Kalgin. The circular bridge closed almost immediately. Jacob was met face-to-face with a completely burnt Crystal World dweller in Xtheva.

The creature huffed and puffed, completely on its knees as puddles of black blood surrounded it on the ground. Its skin was no longer blue, due to prolonged exposure to dragon fire. This creature now looked like something out of Helmand, with the way its body was burnt and distorted completely. Its eyes were bloodshot and almost completely burned from their sockets.

…

Normally, Xtheva would not have survived such a ferocious attack, but Jacob, using his Grand Authority, willed that Xtheva would still be alive even after the flurry of flaming-hot fire that was poured directly at it.

“Now you see that you are not a god just because you can control corpses,” Jacob said, moving even closer. “And having a sponsor in this tower does not make you invincible.”

Xtheva had been burned so much that its lips had completely sealed. It was therefore able to make subtle groaning sounds as it watched Jacob move even closer. Jacob’s movement was painfully slow.

Xtheva could only anticipate the worst as the young man crept up on him.

“Look at your gods.” Jacob pointed to the god corpses who were still frozen in the air due to his time affinity. “There was no reason to stand on such a high horse, Xtheva.”

Xtheva’s pupils shook from side to side with unbridled terror as Jacob now towered over its burnt body, trying its best to plead with eye movements only. But it was of no use. Jacob’s mind was made up.

In one sharp motion, Jacob raised a single hand and shoved it through Xtheva’s sealed mouth, fingers first. Jacob grabbed the creature’s jaw and, with all the force he could muster, pushed down forcefully on the hanging jaw.

This motion caused Xtheva’s body to tear open on the front, its rib cage forcefully ripped open and exposed as Jacob tore the front of the creature’s torso clean off its body.

The light slowly died in Xtheva’s eyes as the creature fell to the ground, dead.

Jacob looked at himself, covered in Xtheva’s blood. He raised his head at the sky and reveled in it, then he slowly used his water affinity to control the blood on his skin and clothes.

The battle was over. Jacob had started to really enjoy killing his opponents, even though he hadn’t wanted to do it from the start. It brought him a faint sense of accomplishment and kept his blood pumping for the fights that were yet to come.

…

“Yes! YES!” Romstad celebrated after watching Jacob take out yet another opponent in a different but more gory manner. As the blade god, he was an avid fan of bloodshed and gore, and had secretly been wishing for Jacob to embrace that side of himself. Now there was nothing stopping him from approaching this young man to be his sponsor. “Ha—that’s it, Jacob. More! More!”

Elyssara glanced over at him, knowing almost immediately why the man was so happy, as she also fancied blood and gore.

Even though she was the Weeping Goddess and was fated to carry the sorrow of the world on her back, she was still a very huge fan of watching mortals rip each other apart to shreds. It was one of the only things that brought her solace, along with engaging in filthy pleasures with these same mortals.

Moralus stared, his interest in Jacob slowly rising as he just witnessed yet another easy victory for the young man. He was worried and impressed. This man was about to do a clean sweep of this tower. Unharmed, uninjured, barely even touched.

Jacob took his time, walking out of the arena gracefully as he stepped onto another, and another, and another.

…

By the end of the day, Jacob had ascended another six floors, without getting a single scratch or feeling the slightest discomfort. It was starting to look as though this tower was built exactly for him. He had not even been ten days yet in the tower, and he was already on the 86th floor.

Ironically, he had already begun to miss the academy, as there was not much to do in the tower but fight. At least, back in the academy, he had Violet, and, funnily enough, Allicent. He missed telling her off.

Just a day or two more, and he’ll be done.

He stood in the lobby, chatting away with Uga when a broad-shouldered man appeared, bespectacled with gold rims on his lenses and a curly mustache.

“Jacob…” Romstad stood smartly. “Wonderful battles out there. You’re really something, boy.”

“My answer is still the same. I don’t want to be sponsored.” Jacob sighed.

“Are you always this dismissive? You haven’t heard what I wanted to say,” Romstad argued.

“I don’t need to.”

“Well, I have used my authority to set a match between you and I, sword techniques only. If you win, I let you be. If I win, I become your sponsor. This is non-negotiable, Jacob. I’ll see you on the battlefield in 12 hours,” Romstad announced, and immediately disappeared through a portal.

“What the fuck,” Jacob cursed. Then he began laughing. He had seen this exact same scenario play out as a result of his future knowledge. Unbeknownst to Romstad, the young man had already copied his entire arsenal when it came to abilities, refined them, and created new sword techniques of his own. This battle would be a walkover.

Romstad thought he had the upper hand because he had authority as a first-order existence. But Jacob had the upper hand the entire time. After this altercation, the constellation would know better than to pick fights with random mortals.

12 hours. That was enough time for Jacob to rest and check on his family. He would tackle what came the next day accordingly.
