Chapter 50: Freshman Showcase Tournament

Jing Xuan’s eyes were still closed and ignoring everyone surrounding it, but the movement of its tail tells Chen Tianyu that it was feeling annoyed by the sounds around it.

On the other side, Song Yuan was still thinking over how to deal with the four of them. In the end, he decided to call everyone into his office for a talk, which made Chen Tianyu spend a long time trying to get Jing Xuan to agree to go back into the Summoning Space for a while.

By the time they left Song Yuan’s office, it was already late at night. Chen Tianyu was the first person to walk out of the office, with a crying expression on his face. That made Lin Xingxue click her tongue and reached her hand out, giving him a knock on the forehead. "Why are you the one crying? I’m the one who’s supposed to be the most innocent, and now I have to write a 3000-word self-criticism with you. There’s definitely no way we’ll get it done by the start of class on Monday."

Chen Tianyu covered the spot she’d hit, though he did not dare to complain. He opened his mouth, wanting to argue that he was also pretty innocent, but the moment he noticed the expression on Lin Xingxue’s face, he slowly shut his mouth and lowered his eyes, feeling a bit wronged.

Jiang Zihan also felt a bit helpless. He just stayed in the scene to help out, but ended up having to write a 2000-word self-criticism with Mo Shiyan. Although that requirement is a bit less than the amount that Lin Xingxue and Chen Tianyu are required to write, that did not make him feel better.

However, seeing the scene in front of him, he still tried to live up the atmosphere. He turned to Lin Xingxue and curiously asked, "So... why did you start fighting Chen Tianyu at the very beginning?"

Hearing that question, Lin Xingxue gave Chen Tianyu a vicious glare before answering irritably. "I was in the middle of trying to awaken a new ability I could faintly feel deep in my consciousness. In order to prepare for it, I even owed an upperclassman a large amount of Ice Points to rent a training field and explore the new ability."

"However, this guy’s summoned beast somehow had the bloodline of a Spatial Dragon, which the protective barrier for the training field wasn’t able to stop its movement. Then it suddenly appeared in the training field... I was so close to grasping that new ability!"

The more Lin Xingxue said, the angrier she became. Seeing that Jiang Zihan was interested in asking more questions about it, Chen Tianyu somehow had a bad feeling about what was gonna happen next and quickly walked forward. He reached out and covered Jiang Zihan’s mouth, stopping him from speaking.

The second Chen Tianyu did so, he felt a familiar chill that came behind him. He stiffly turned his head and found Mo Shiyan standing behind him, his expression darkened. He unconsciously lowered his hand and immediately kept a distance from Jiang Zihan.

Fortunately, Lin Xingxue did not want to place her attention on Chen Tianyu anymore. She took a deep breath and forced herself to calm down. Then she turned to Jiang Zihan and forced a smile on her face. "It seems like we still haven’t introduced ourselves yet."

"I’m Lin Xingxue, an incoming freshman, and my Hunter ability is related to regeneration," she said as she reached her hand out.

"I’m Jiang Zihan, and I’m also an incoming freshman. My Hunter ability is related to—" Jiang Zihan paused for a second before he continued speaking, "Time."

He hesitated for a moment on whether or not he should tell others that he also had the ability of space. However, in the end, he chose to not do so, as he did not want to get so much attention when school just started, especially since his ability of space somehow relates to his transmigration into this world.

Then he pulled Mo Shiyan a little closer beside him and introduced him. "This is my friend, Mo Shiyan. His Hunter ability is related to the sky.

Lin Xingxue gave Mo Shiyan a nod before the three of them shifted their sight toward Chen Tianyu. He was stunned for a moment before pointing toward himself and asking in a low voice, "So... it’s my turn right now?"

Jiang Zihan quietly nodded his head.

Chen Tianyu shrugged his shoulders and said, "I’m Chen Tianyu, and you have all seen my Hunter ability already; it’s related to summoning."

After every one of them had introduced themselves, Mo Shiyan had planned to go back to the dorm with Jiang Zihan when Lin Xingxue suddenly called their names. They turned around with confusion.

"Have you heard of the Freshman Showcase Tournament?" Lin Xingxue asked.

Jiang Zihan and Mo Shiyan exchanged a glance, not sure what she meant. Seeing their expressions, Lin Xingxue immediately understood that they had no idea what this competition was for.

To be simple, the Freshman Showcase Tournament is a competition hosted by the academy every year; only first-year students are eligible to participate. Students had to register in a team and compete with each other in front of all students, teachers, and Hunters from the Hunters Association. This competition is mostly used to test the freshmen’s abilities and decide how resources would be allocated.

"Resources...?" Jiang Zihan repeated this word.

Lin Xingxue nodded and slowly explained, "As long as you can get into the top three, you will have the chance to go to the Realm of Resonance and cultivate inside."

"Realm of Resonance...? What is that?"

"The Realm of Resonance is the name of a dungeon which the academy had found hundreds of years ago. It was all because of this dungeon that made our school become one of the best Hunter Academies in this world. It’s overflowing with resources and a large amount of magical energy, which allows for Hunters to cultivate at more than three times their normal speed."
