Reborn As A Maid

Chapter 225 - The Demon Warlord Vs Jennie ( Part 3 )

  • Next Chapter

The battlefield shook.

Crimson clouds swirled above Seraiya as Draven’s demonic aura kept spreading in the sky. They were alive, devouring the crimson light of the sky and replacing it with something more sinister, something primordial, something hungry.

His huge battle axe was lying on his shoulder. Crimson runes on the blade were growing brighter every second, pulsing like his heartbeat—a dangerous, destructive beat.

Across from him, there stood Jennie.

Her silver-white hair flew fiercely in the demonic wind, flapping behind her like the banner of the moonlight. Her golden eyes burned with determination, while her hands were firmly planted in front of her even though fatigue dragged her limbs down.

Five Divine Swords hovered around her.

Excalibur. Leviathan. Tempest. Eclipse. Gram.

Every sword was glowing with a different color and energy. Gold and blue, silver and black, crimson and shadows. They were orbiting her, merging their glows into the corona of power.

However, something had changed.

Not only were the swords reacting to Jennie’s commands now.

They were also reacting to each other.

A weak vibration was spreading on the battlefield. It was hardly noticeable, but it was definitely there, like a distant rumble of thunder before a storm.

Another vibration.

It came through Jennie’s fingertips. The hilts of the swords were heating, and their pulses were syncing. Five rhythms turned into one.

Resonance.

She looked at the swords around her. Her voice was a mere whisper.

"What...?"

The glow of Excalibur increased and became almost blinding.

The blue blade of Leviathan shone bright with power and gleamed like the sea depths.

Tempest was crackling. Blue bolts of lightning ran along the silver blade, and the thunder could be heard somewhere far away.

Eclipse let out a shadowy wave. Black blade shone with an ancient glow, sending shadows towards others.

Gram was burning crimson. Blade of Wrath started flaming with fury.

Five powers were intertwining. Golden light touched blue energy. Silver lightning mingled with black shadows. Crimson fire enwrapped all of them.

Draven’s smile slowly faded. His crimson eyes widened.

"What are they doing?"

The swords started moving. Not separately. But together.

For the first time ever, their powers were synced.

The resonance was growing stronger, becoming a powerful chord of creation and destruction, storm and shadows, wrath and kingship. The very air seemed to be filled with their powers’ song.

Draven’s crimson eyes widened. His voice was almost inaudible.

"No."

This word slipped out of his mouth, as if he didn’t want to say it. He had expected the swords to interfere with each other. Five Divine Swords couldn’t be controlled at once. Their wills would have clashed, their powers would have competed.

But... they moved as one.

Jennie looked at her hands. She felt all five swords—not as individual swords anymore, but as the extensions of herself. Their power was rushing in her veins like the blood and air.

A peculiar warmth spread in her chest. It wasn’t the warmness of battle. It was softer... almost gentle, like the feeling of acceptance.

And then she smiled. "Looks like they made their decision."

Draven gripped his axe tightly. His voice was strained.

"Impossible."

This word slipped out of his mouth before he could prevent himself. He had expected the swords to interfere with each other. Five Divine Swords shouldn’t have been controlled at once. Their wills should have clashed. Their powers should have competed.

But... they moved as one.

Jennie faded away.

Tempest.

Lightning erupted. Blade of Storms crackled with energy, and the body of Jennie shot forward like a lightning bolt.

Draven raised his axe. Too late.

Jennie was already standing in front of him. Her speed was incredible—something that was way beyond anything he had encountered in centuries of war.

Eclipse.

The presence of Jennie disappeared. Just for an instant, even Draven couldn’t see her. She was swallowed by the shadow, and the Black Warlord was looking around.

"Where?"

A flash of blue emerged underneath him.

Leviathan.

A water column was emerging. A giant wave shot upward and lifted Draven in the air. The roaring water formed a giant wave that surpassed the height of the surrounding buildings.

Jennie appeared above him.

Gram.

Blade of Wrath appeared in the hand of Jennie. It started glowing with fiery red color, and its edge was screaming for blood.

Draven crossed his giant axe in front of himself.

BOOOOOOM!

The explosion shattered his demonic armor. It started cracking and breaking in pieces.

Draven was thrown towards the ground.

Before he managed to recover, golden light flooded his sight.

Excalibur.

Jennie descended on top of Draven. The sword was glowing like the second sun. There was no darkness anywhere nearby.

The explosion was deafening.

A shock wave of gold tore across the battlefield, destroying the buildings and stone with ease. The ground cracked, and the massive cloud of dust appeared.

Draven’s body was thrown through the ruins of a stone building. The entire construction was collapsing, covering the Warlord with tons of rocks.

Silence.

Jennie descended to the ground. Her breathing was becoming heavier, and sweat started dripping from her forehead. The five swords were hovering around her, emitting weak light.

Jennie looked toward the ruins. "Is that all?"

The ruins started moving.

The massive hand emerged. Then another one.

Draven pulled himself out of the destruction. His armor was cracked and had holes here and there. There was blood on the left side of his face, and he had broken one of his horns.

But he was still standing.

Jennie’s eyes narrowed.

Draven chuckled. This time, his laughter was weaker and almost breathless.

"So that’s it..."

He looked at the five Divine Swords. There was no anger on his face. Only realization.

"The swords aren’t obeying you."

Jennie said nothing.

Draven looked at her. His eyes widened.

"They’re accepting you."

He struggled to keep himself standing. He was barely able to speak.

"You..."

He coughed. There was blood coming out of the corner of his mouth.

"You’re not Leonis anymore."

Jennie looked at him. Her voice was calm.

"I’ve been telling you that."

Draven chuckled once more. Blood was dripping from his mouth.

"Then what are you?"

For a second, Jennie’s eyes softened. Then she answered.

"Jennie."

The name echoed across the battlefield. This wasn’t any title. Not a legend. No ancient name.

This was her name.

Draven stared at her. Then he smiled.

"Jennie..."

He whispered it once again, as if trying to remember it.

"Perhaps..."

He squeezed the handle of his axe.

"...that’s why they fear you."

Then his eyes hardened.

"Unfortunately, I can’t die just yet."

His demonic aura exploded once again.

The sky darkened.

The flames erupted across the battlefield. Not ordinary flames. The black demonic fire.

It was spreading through the streets of the city, destroying everything. The heat was unbearable, and the air itself was burning.

Jennie raised her Excalibur. The heat hit her face, and she bit her lip.

Draven raised his axe. His voice was a roar.

"COME!"

The floor broke under his feet, and he dashed.

Jennie responded to his challenge by dashing as well.

The two of them collided.

BOOOOOOOOOOM!

The explosion ripped across the battlefield. The buildings were falling apart, and the ground was cracking. The black flames were clashing with the golden light.

Lucas immediately turned toward the source of the sounds. His expression changed.

"Everyone retreat!"

The Royal Knights were starting to retreat from the battlefield. Their voices were full of alarm.

"Move!"

Lucas raised his sword. "Get the civilians away from this area!"

Another explosion ripped the city. The ground started shaking, and the pieces of stones were falling from the sky.

Roxy turned toward the battlefield. Her eyes widened.

"Jennie..."

She immediately raised both her hands. The huge magical barrier appeared in front of the civilians, shimmering with crimson light.

BOOM!

The flames of black demonic fire hit the barrier. The barrier started shaking fiercely, and some cracks appeared in it.

Roxy gritted her teeth. "Come on..."

She poured more mana into the barrier. Her hands were shaking, and the sweat was dripping from her forehead.

"Hold!"

The barrier expanded. Behind it, the civilians were huddling together. The children were crying, and their parents were holding them.

Roxy stood between the flames and the civilians. Her voice was soft but firm.

"You’ll be safe."

She turned toward Jennie’s battle.

"She’ll stop him."

The situation near the royal palace became even worse.

Lilia was standing in the center of the ruined courtyard. Her golden armor was damaged, and the blood was running down her arm. Aurelia was still in her hand, glowing weakly.

Across from her, there was Morgatha. The Witch of Eternal Curses was smiling. Her violet-black hair was flowing in the wind.

There was no sign of Lokiar anywhere.

Lilia narrowed her eyes. "Where did he go?"

Morgatha smiled. "Still searching?"

Lilia felt something. She looked up.

Nothing.

Then, suddenly, Aurelia gave her a warning.

Lilia looked at the sky. Her eyes widened.

"Wyvern."

The demon’s wyvern descended from the sky. It spread its giant wings over the sun, creating the massive shadow over the palace. Its scales were black, and its eyes were crimson.

Lilia immediately raised Aurelia. The creature opened its mouth and gathered a concentrated ball of demonic energy in it.

Lilia’s expression changed. "You’re not seriously..."

The wyvern fired.

BOOOOOOOOM!

Lilia raised Aurelia. A golden barrier was created, glowing brightly with divine energy. The blast hit the barrier, and the palace started shaking.

Lilia’s feet started sliding backward. The barrier cracked.

"Urgh!"

She tried pushing herself harder. Aurelia started shining brighter and brighter. The golden barrier expanded, and finally, the demonic blast dissipated.

But the explosion had already partially destroyed the palace. One of its towers fell apart, and the stones were flying across the courtyard.

Lilia looked around. Her expression changed for worse.

"You destroyed the palace..."

Morgatha smiled. "Collateral damage."

Lilia lifted Aurelia. Her tone became cold.

"No."

Golden light burst around her.

"You destroyed my home."

Divine Sword responded to her anger. Golden light of the sword became almost blinding.

Lilia made a leap forward.

BOOM!

She hit the wyvern. The monster screamed as Aurelia sliced its wing off. The wyvern fell to the ground and crashed into the palace destroying another part of the royal building.

Lilia landed among the rubble. She quickly turned her gaze toward Morgatha.

"You wanted my attention."

Her eyes were burning with golden light.

"Now you have it."

Morgatha smiled. "Exactly."

Lilia stopped. Something was wrong.

Too late.

Lokiar appeared behind her. His voice was soft.

"Your Majesty."

Lilia turned. Magical circle was already under her feet. Her eyes widened.

"Capture spell."

Lokiar smiled. "Finally."

Morgatha raised both her hands. Dark curse symbols appeared all over the courtyard. Dark light of those symbols pulsed with power.

Lilia swung Aurelia. Golden light burst. But the spell was already activated.

Chains of black magic emerged from the ground wrapping her arms, legs and waist.

Lilia struggled. "No!"

Aurelia blazed. Chains broke. But new ones appeared, replacing the broken ones.

Morgatha approached her. "Do not resist."

Lilia stared at her. "I’ll never forgive you."

Morgatha smiled. "You don’t have to."

The spell intensified. Lilia’s Divine Mark started glowing. Golden light fought against darkness.

The chains tightened.

Lilia suddenly understood what they were trying to do.

They weren’t trying to kill her.

They were trying to take her alive.

Her eyes widened. Her voice was barely a whisper.

"Jennie..."

Another explosion in Seraiya.

Jennie was thrown in the air. She twisted her body and landed on one knee. Her breathing became ragged.

In front of her, Draven stood amidst the black flames. His battle axe was huge now. Demonic flames surrounded the huge blade of the axe. Any of his moves caused waves of destruction.

Draven charged. Jennie raised Excalibur.

The axe fell. She blocked it.

CLANG!

The ground underneath her shattered. Draven pushed harder.

Jennie switched Gram. She stabbed upward and forced the axe aside.

Tempest activated. Jennie vanished.

She appeared behind him. Then Eclipse was active. She disappeared into darkness.

Leviathan burst below him throwing him into the air.

Excalibur blazed. Jennie slashed him across the chest and Draven crashed to the ground.

He stood again. Again. And again.

Each time when Jennie threw him down he forced himself to stand up.

The Black Warlord didn’t want to fall.

Draven raised his axe. His voice was roar.

"COME!"

Jennie’s five swords started glowing. Resonance intensified and she could feel how the power of the swords flowed through her.

Five swords. Five wills. Five powers. One heart.

Jennie slowly raised her hand. Swords moved around her.

For one second everything became quiet. The battlefield disappeared.

There was only Jennie. And the five Divine Swords.

She whispered: "Together."

The swords responded.

Draven charged. His battle axe flew cutting the air and black flames followed him.

Jennie didn’t move. She waited.

Closer. Closer. Closer.

At the very last moment... she made a step forward.

Five Divine Swords attacked simultaneously.

Tempest. Light speed accelerated her body beyond Draven’s perception.

Eclipse. She disappeared.

Leviathan. Massive wave exploded around Draven.

Gram. The Blade of Wrath destroyed his remaining protections.

And finally... Excalibur.

The Sword of Kings descended. Five swords. Five attacks. Five powers.

One decisive blow.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!

The battlefield disappeared under the explosion of light. Black flames were annihilated and the shockwave covered Seraiya.

Lucas raised his arm to cover his face. Roxy’s protection barrier trembled. Snow looked toward the explosion.

Even demons stopped fighting.

For several seconds no one saw anything.

Then the light faded.

Draven was standing in the middle of the crater. His huge battle axe fell to the ground.

It crashed to the ground.

CLANG.

Cracks appeared on his demonic armor. It shattered. Piece by piece.

Draven’s knees buckled. He fell.

The Black Warlord was defeated.

Jennie was standing a few meters from him. Five Divine Swords were slowly returning to her.

She was tired. Blood was running down her cheek. Her breathing was ragged. But she was still standing.

Draven looked at her. There wasn’t any hatred in his expression. Only recognition.

His eyes slowly looked at the five Divine Swords. Then back to Jennie.

"Leonis..."

His voice was barely audible. He stopped.

Smile appeared.

"No..."

He corrected himself.

"Jennie."

Jennie didn’t say a word.

Draven smiled. "Perhaps..."

He struggled to breathe.

"...that’s why they fear you."

His eyes slowly closed. The Black Warlord’s body became motionless.

Draven was dead.

For several seconds Jennie just stood. Battlefield around her was silent.

She had won. Draven was dead. The Demon General who once forced her to retreat was finally gone.

But something was wrong. Very wrong.

Jennie’s expression changed suddenly. Her head turned to the palace.

Aurelia.

She could feel it. Lilia.

Or better to say... the absence of Lilia.

Jennie’s eyes widened. "Lilia?"

She turned. Suddenly battlefield around her became meaningless.

Destroyed streets. Dead demons. Fallen buildings. Draven’s corpse.

None of it was important anymore.

There was only one thing in her mind.

Where was Lilia?

Jennie ran.

"Lilia!"

Her voice echoed across the battlefield. No answer came.

Silence.

And somewhere far away... black portal closed.

Taking with itself the Queen of Seraiya.
