Chapter 723: Alone In The Dark
Chapter 723: Alone In The Dark
The smell of blood filled his nose as Creige looked up at the mountain of corpses in front of him. He had no idea how long he had been in this dark, dingy world. He had lost all sense of time. All he knew was that every day was a dance between that fine line of life and death.
“I understand all too well why that old man sent me here. My ability to tap into my demon instincts has risen a lot since coming here. To survive in the sea of stars or anywhere above that would take a lot more than power alone. It would take the instinct to learn how to survive and point out those who want to kill you. The beings here have no killing intent. They are quiet and are able to hunt in this darkness with absolute precision. It is actually truly amazing how they are so quiet yet so large.” Creige sighed as he looked up at the dark sky.
There was no light here, only darkness. If one was unable to handle the dark and adapt to the zero visibility, they would never be able to survive. Creige also had a hard time at first, almost losing his life many times but now…. He was able to fight many monsters at a time without receiving a single scratch.
“That old man said if I could survive here until Kana was able to reach the fifth plane of the world she is trapped on, he would allow me to go to the sea of stars and form a faction. It’s a good deal as it would allow me to raise my strength much faster. I want to make sure Kana is able to gain revenge on all those who wronged her in her past life.” Creige flicked his sword to remove the blood from it before sheathing it. He knew he was talking to himself, but it was the only way to keep himself sane in a place filled with darkness and nothing but monsters.
He looked at the pile of dead monsters in front of him and reached over and ripped a leg off one of them. “At least there is plenty of meat…. I am sure Kana would find this place perfect for her. Unlimited source of meat all the time.”
With a leg larger than himself propped up on his shoulder Creige made his way back to his base camp. It was just a small cave he had dug out himself and created a stone door to allow him at least some peace while he ate and slept.
It was only a single room, but it had a small fire pit which allowed him the only bit of light he would see most of the time. Using light outside was a death sentence. So he always had to refrain from using anything that created light. This meant no fire spells.
Only inside his cave could he light a fire and enjoy the dance of the flickering flame. He would cook his food and eat before washing himself off with water he collected from one of the rivers nearby. It seemed the old man was not one hundred percent trying to kill him because this world did have an abundant amount of water and food.
It was never cold either. It was always warm and humid out. As someone who always sat in front of a forge, a little humidity was nothing to him. He had made a small bed on the stone floor using dried out hides from the monsters he killed. On the walls, he had carved out images of all his kids and Kana. Looking at it every night gave him more motivation to continue on with his training no matter how lonely it got.
In the far back, he had dug out a spot that he was using as his forge. He would take time every day using the ore he finds in the area to work on a weapon or two. Instead of resting like most would, he was still honing his skills because he knew his wife would not want him to stop forging no matter what he was doing. Everything he was doing he was doing for Kana. She was his reason to keep moving forward no matter what he did.
Even before he met her again, he was only waiting patiently for her to return to him. Every day he continued to forge his weapons waiting for the day she would reincarnate. He had faith that Kana would reach the fifth layer of the world she was on, and he would be able to leave this place that was like a prison.
After roasting his meat, he took a bite out of it and looked up at the carving of Kana on the wall. “One day….. We will be back together as one family once more. I just hope you are not lonely….”
—
“Mhm… Hehehe…. Creige…. How many more babies do you want…. Hehe, I’m not a machine! Okay, just one more then….” Kana mumbled incoherent words as she lay sprawled out on her bed. When she got back, she decided to get a good night’s sleep before beginning her closed door cultivation. Her goal was to reach the peak of qi gathering before breaking through to stage ten of qi gathering. She would need to leave the sect to reach stage ten as it would mean undergoing a heavenly tribulation.
It would be a lie to say she was not concerned about the heavenly tribulation, but she was sure she could make it through it. How injured she would get during the process she did not know, but it was something she had to do no matter what. Only by going through the heavenly tribulation would she be able to reach the tenth stage and continue her progression.
While she slept, others were plotting schemes. “She has returned?”
“Yes, Master. The one called Kana has returned. Shall I start executing the plan?” A girl in black clothing asked.
“Yes… But Min’er, make sure no one can trace anything back to me.”
“As you wish, Master.”
