Chapter 502 - Hard Decision
Kana's body flashed, and a loud clang was heard as the sword slammed down onto Kana's back. "What!?"
"You dare hurt people I care about!? You dare touch them with your filthy hands!? You dare try to kill them in front of my eyes!? What have these people done to you that makes them deserve any of this!?" Kana yelled as she grabbed hold of the man's sword with her paw.
"De- Demon!" The man in shiny armor yelled out in fright. He quickly tried to pull his sword back but found that it wouldn't even budge!
Kana looked down at Melinda, who was desperately clinging on to Bell, and Bell, who was crying in her arms. Kana's heart hurt seeing the two like this. Kana clenched her fist, causing the sword in her paw to shatter. The man in shiny armor stumbled backward and almost fell over. "It's a demon. Kill the demon! And kill the demon before it kills us all!"
"You dare!?" Kana's anger rose as she launched forward and shoved her claws straight through the man's shiny armor and into his heart and crushed it.
The man in shiny armor stared at the white demon in front of him, unsure of what had just happened as his body slumped to the ground. Kana looked around at the other men dressed in armor and began a full on killing spree. Anyone who approached was killed, no exception. Kana's white scales were now stained red in blood.
Melinda looked up at Kana, who was desperately trying to protect her and her daughter, and lowered her eyes. She bit her bottom lip as she stood up, picking up Bell with her. She took a deep breath before yelling out: "Stop! Everyone stop! Kana, Stop!"
The men in armor and Kana all turned to look at Melinda, who had tears in her eyes as she looked at Kana. "Kana, take Bell. They are here for me… I am someone the kingdom of Fandel can not allow to live freely."
Kana was confused as to what was going on. She looked at Melinda, looking for answers but all she got was Bell being shoved into her arms. "Take care of Bell for me. I can no longer be at her side as her mother, so I will ask that you take care of her and allow her to grow up to be whatever she wants to be."
"Mel, why!? I can get all of us out of here! You can come with me!" Kana yelled. She did not wish to have to leave Melinda! She knew she could easily escape with both of them.
"It's not that, Kana. It is because they will keep hunting me down. Like you, I am also not human. Bell can also not live among humans anymore either. I ask that you take care of her from now on. She is a half vampire, so soon, she will need blood… So go please! Please take her and raise her as your own!" Melinda yelled at the top of her lungs. "Go now! I will hold them off! A simple sword can not take me down."
Kana was not sure what to do. But she was stunned at what she was seeing next. Melinda was indeed not human. She was easily dealing with the men in armor. Kana could only guess she did not make a move earlier in order to protect Bell. Kana lowered her eyes and looked at Bell, who was hugging her tightly. Her muffled sobs could still be heard. She gritted her teeth and made a firm decision as she yelled out with tears welling up in her eyes. "I will raise her well!"
Melinda, who heard Kana's yell smiled. She knew she could not fight these men off for much longer. Each one would need their heart destroyed in order to kill them. They were nothing more than low level vampires. But their sheer number was made up for their lack of ability. After Kana had long gone, Melinda began to slow down her actions before dropping her hands to her side. "You wanted me to come with you, then let's good."
One of the men in front of Melinda put his sword away and bowed his head. "We will take your highness to our camp for the night, before departing to the castle in the morning."

Kana had long reached the forest. She felt this would be the best hiding spot. She even picked up the two deer she dropped earlier and brought them with her. She had never expected such a turn of events. Bell, who was still in her arms, had at least stopped crying for the meantime and was sleeping. But Kana knew that once she woke up, she would probably start crying again.
Kana did not stop going deeper into the forest until she found a cave then went down into the ground near a large boulder. She knew it was not the safest place for a child Bell's age, but she had no choice. She really hated the fact that the house she built for Melinda and Bell not only did not get a chance to be used but also burnt to the ground.
Kana only had the fact that the cave she entered was underground and was warmer than above ground. She dropped deeper into the cave until she found an area that was tucked away off the main path and finally sat down with Bell in her arms. "If only I could make a fire and light the area up a little bit."
Kana only said these words as a complaint to not having any light, but to her surprise, a fireball suddenly appeared in front of her and landed on the ground not too far away. "This..." Kana was shocked to have seen such a thing, but she could not waste this chance to cook some food for Bell, so she hurriedly did her best to rip some meat off the deer and put it next to the fire in hopes of cooking it, all while trying not to disturbed Bell. "Now if I just had some water…."
