Chapter 501 - Sometimes Life Never Allows One To Be Happy
[AN- Bonus Chapter for last week's top 100 power stone ranking]
Kana wasted no time after she had finished ransacking the village elder's house. She was like a busy bee as she ran back and forth from the forest back to Melinda's. When some of the carpenters of the village saw this, they quickly came over to offer their services to get on Kana's good side. Kana gladly accepted their help after giving them a small threat. But she actually really needed their input on how to insulate the house so that Melinda and Bell would never be cold during the winter.
The new house was being built behind the old one. Although Melinda had some attachment to the old place, she still decided to knock the entire house down after the new one was completed. She was really excited to see the new place. Her daughter Bell was even more excited. Ever since Kana had appeared, her daughter was looking much healthier thanks to Kana always hunting for meat and the grains and flour the people of the village were offering them as well. Her Little Bell was now a Pudgy Bell.
The days passed by joyously as Kana worked hard on providing the mother and daughter with a sturdy well built house. Down in the village, things have been very quiet since Kana stopped showing up to harass the village elder who was finally getting his house rebuilt. While Gary's father was angry about everything that happened, he understood why it happened. It was due to his good for nothing son who did things he should not have.
Gary's father was not a bad man. He was also not a vengeful man either. He had intended to always help the mother and daughter pair all along and entrusted his son, who used to be friends with Melinda's husband's best friend, to send the items he had prepared for her. But he never expected that his son was torturing the mother and daughter all this time because he had taken a fancy to her. Just thinking of how his son was lost in the ocean of jealousy to the point that he would rather drag the woman down to force his affection onto her than to raise her up to win her affection in a normal way. He had the intention of getting the two close, but who would have known… Sighing, the village elder continued to hammer away after his new roof.
A few weeks passed, and Kana was now putting the finishing touches on the new house. It was already livable, but Kana kept adding things here and there. She had the people who came to help dismantle the old house so the materials could be used for other things. The new house rested on a large rock Kana dug up from a nearby rocky area, and the carpenters helped add in a proper floor to it with insulation to keep the floor warm during the winter months.
One day, Kana stood outside the new house and gave a proud snort. The day was much colder than the previous days, and the sky seemed to threaten to drop the first snow on them. "Not bad, not bad. I feel this place will be very good during the winter."
"It sure is beautiful. Kana, I must thank you from the bottom of my heart." Melinda had tears in her eyes as she looked at her new house. The outside wall was made of logs, while the side had been shaved and properly plastered with mud and straw to keep heat in. The floors of the house were done in the same way, but there were thin boards covering the mud and straw, making it more homey and easier to clean.
Kana rubbed her snout in embarrassment. She never did this to gain praise. She just wished to help the mother and daughter who were so kind to her. "Come, let's go in."
With a nod, Melinda walked towards the house with Kana holding Bell's hand following behind her. The entrance had a small area that was lower than the main floor of the house that was lined with stone. This was where you would take your shoes off before entering the house.
From there was a living room where the main fireplace was. Kana made sure each room had a small fireplace in order to keep it warm. Besides the two bedrooms, there was a kitchen, a pantry area, and a large storage area. There was also a second floor storage area as well. The entire place was built with the idea of keeping the mother and daughter warm during the winter months. The windows on the house all. Opened wide to allow cool air in during the summers.
The carpenters went all out, making everything seem warm and cozy. Kana was very happy with how well this house came out. "Now we can sit in and relax for the winter. You two can stay in while I do the hunting for our daily meat stash."
"Speaking of that, Kana, can you catch a bit more today? I wish to make a big meal for everyone and their families." Melinda wanted to thank everyone for their hard work.
"Sure, leave it to me! I will find some big deer to cook up over an open fire!" Kana patted her chest to show she would make it happen before running out to get things done.
On this happy day of occasions with the house at its completion. Kana was in high spirits as she ran towards the forest at top speed. She did not wish to delay anyone for too long. After searching for about ten minutes, she came upon a few large deer and quickly killed them and got ready to head back.
Kana was extremely happy about meeting Melinda and Bell when she first woke up. Otherwise, she would have had to wander around aimlessly, and more than likely be shunned because she was some kind of lizard. But she was lucky and met two wonderful people who accepted her even though she was a large lizard.
Kana was singing her strange meat song as she made her way towards the village. But when she got close to the village she smelt a faint scent of smoke and blood in the air. This faint smell sent a wave of unease through Kana's body. She quickly picked up her pace and ran towards the village, but when it came into view what she saw shocked her beyond belief. Flames. Flames everywhere. The entire village was on fire! "Bell, Mel!" Kana dropped the deer she ghad been carrying and rushed towards the new house but just as she got there a sight that she never wanted to see took place in front of her. A young woman was covering her child while a man in shiny armor stood above her. The man in shiny armor raised his sword and struck down towards the young woman.
"Noooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
