Rebirth: Saving the Lovely Girl from the Start
Chapter 359 286: Lin Ruoxi's Scumbag Routine (Part 2)
'What kind of scumbag routine is this?'
Lin Ruoxi was so beautiful. He was clearly the one getting the better end of the deal, but her behavior always made him feel like he was the one getting shortchanged.
He didn't know what time it was, but the girl still hadn't woken up. A pair of small hands were wrapped around his neck, and she would nuzzle against his back from time to time.
"Sigh, you've gotten lazy too. You're actually waking up later than me," Xue Rui teased.
"Mm, I was afraid you'd fall off," Lin Ruoxi said earnestly.
As Xue Rui turned around, he saw the girl squeeze her eyes shut with a pained expression before inching closer and giving him a sweet smile.
Xue Rui's expression froze. 'She looked like she was in pain just now. Why?'
He glanced around and instantly understood the problem—he was lying on Lin Ruoxi's hair.
"You have to tell me if I'm on your hair," Xue Rui instructed seriously.
He couldn't help but think of the most common phrase uttered between a man and a woman in bed: "You're on my hair!"
But the girl hadn't said a word the entire time, simply snuggling closer to him in silence.
"Mm, I'm okay."
As she spoke, Lin Ruoxi leaned in and nuzzled Xue Rui's nose with her own.
"If you're uncomfortable, you have to say so." Xue Rui sighed. The girl never seemed to have a vulnerable moment. He couldn't even remember when her period was because she never let it show.
"Mm, it's very comfortable hugging you," Lin Ruoxi said, blinking.
"Uh... forget about me. School's about to start. You'll be at a huge disadvantage dealing with your roommates if you're like this. Nothing good ever comes from a bunch of women living together. Six of them could create 800 different WeChat groups," Xue Rui griped.
There's so much drama in girls' dorms; they could even get into a fight over who paid a few extra bucks for the electricity bill. The girl would probably be the one to get the short end of the stick most often.
However, the girl gently cupped his cheeks and said, "Rui, it's not that many. With permutations and combinations for six people, you can only create a maximum of 57 groups."
Xue Rui's brow furrowed. 'Lin Ruoxi would be a shoo-in for the civil service exam, but what's the point of getting hung up on the number of groups? Is that what I was even talking about?'
Seeing Xue Rui was unhappy, Lin Ruoxi quickly said in a soft voice, "Mm, you... you can make 800. Please don't be angry, okay?"
Xue Rui couldn't help but laugh. 'You have no principles at all, do you? Didn't you just do the math? And now you're telling a bald-faced lie…'
"Get up and eat. I've already eaten," Lin Ruoxi said, bringing Xue Rui's clothes over.
Xue Rui snatched the clothes from her hands. The feeling of having her dress him was just too weird.
Just as he was putting on his clothes, he found the girl kneeling on the floor, putting his socks on for him.
Xue Rui sighed helplessly. 'Lin Ruoxi would be terrible at raising children.'
'Spoiling them rotten without any boundaries would only lead to weakness or harm.'
"Rui, your phone is charged. Your classmate Gu Muxue sent you a lot of messages. You... you should reply," Lin Ruoxi said, placing a gentle kiss on his forehead.
'As long as Xue Rui wasn't hiding it from her, she was already very happy.'
'But now... she was the one hiding this from her classmate Gu Muxue. She actually felt very guilty.'
'If her classmate Gu Muxue found out... would Xue Rui be unhappy?'
'Her classmate Gu Muxue would be very sad, too. Should she go and apologize then?'
Xue Rui reached for the phone. He felt the girl was being far too magnanimous, which only made him feel more guilty.
'I'm such a piece of shit!' Xue Rui lamented internally. 'How could I...'
'How could I feel guilty?'
He made up his mind. 'This bad habit has to go!'
He watched as the girl folded the bedsheets and put them back in her suitcase as if they were some important souvenir, probably to take with her to Chang'an.
While they were eating, he casually replied to Gu Muxue's messages.
The girl had been too clingy last night, so he didn't have a chance to message Gu Muxue back. By now, Gu Muxue was probably furious.
The girl had sent him a ton of messages, telling him what she'd done at school, what she'd eaten, what the school had planned, and even reminding him how to use the skincare set after the semester started so he wouldn't get sunburned during military training.
Of course, the last few messages were all cursing him out.
Creditor: Lazy pig! Where did you disappear to again?
Xue Rui: I was out late with my roommate yesterday.
Creditor: [Furious]
Xue Rui: Alright, alright. I'll come find you at your school in a few days. Things have been really busy here at my school lately.
"I guess... I'll forgive you."
Xue Rui listened to the voice message from Gu Muxue. Her voice was muffled and pouty, and he could just picture her mumbling with her lips pursed.
'Forgive him? If she knew his "roommate" last night was Lin Ruoxi...'
'He wasn't that confident.'
Just as he finished listening, he saw that the voice message had been retracted. He shook his head with a helpless smile; the girl was too proud and pouty.
Of course, he had more important things to do right now, like going with the girl to register at her university.
Because the girl had too much luggage, including even an oscilloscope, they had to have Yu Minlan drive it all to Chang'an. Yu Minlan was probably already on the highway by now.
But this meant he and the girl had to take a taxi to the high-speed rail station.
As the two of them sat in the back of the taxi, Lin Ruoxi pulled two thick red envelopes from her bag and handed them to Xue Rui. "Rui, these are from your father and mother."
She knew that relatives would give red envelopes when a child went off to university, but she just hadn't expected both of Xue Rui's parents to give her one.
Xue Rui nodded. "If they gave them to you, just keep them."
He actually already knew about this. 'My old man probably cursed me out six ways to Sunday in his head. Two girlfriends meant he had to shell out for two sets of red envelopes.'
