Rebirth: Saving the Lovely Girl from the Start
Chapter 358 286: Lin Ruoxi's Scumbag Playbook
Xue Rui hadn't expected the lass to have a surprise for him.
"I'm wearing sunglasses. Weren't you afraid you'd hug the wrong person?" Xue Rui asked. He had only been out of the station for a few seconds, yet Lin Ruoxi had hugged him with such confidence.
Lin Ruoxi nuzzled against Xue Rui's back. "Mmm, I remember everything about you. I'd never get it wrong."
"Where'd you get the sunglasses?" Xue Rui turned and pinched Lin Ruoxi's cheek. The lass was also wearing a pair of large-framed sunglasses, which made the lipstick on her lips look even more vivid and luscious.
'This look isn't bad,' Xue Rui thought. 'Her face practically has "Keep Away" written all over it.'
"A gift from Sister Yu." Lin Ruoxi had only hugged him for a moment before reluctantly letting go. She was afraid of making Xue Rui too hot.
"Rui, it's too hot," Lin Ruoxi explained.
Xue Rui decided to tease the girl. He sighed dramatically. "Sigh... If you're tired of me, just say so. What's this about being hot? It's just an excuse."
"I'm not... I'm not tired of you!" Lin Ruoxi quickly hugged him tighter to prove her point.
Now Xue Rui regretted it. Being hugged tightly from behind by the lass in the over-thirty-degree weather, he felt his shirt was about to stick to his back.
"Alright, let's head back." Xue Rui pulled the lass around to face him. Seeing her in sunglasses felt a little strange, so he reached out and took them off. Behind them were still the lass's innocent and clear eyes.
...
「At Lin Ruoxi's home.」
"Okay, Boss. I've written it all down. I'll be going now." Yu Minlan closed her notebook, picked up her luggage, and left.
Xue Rui had arranged for Yu Minlan to drive to Chang'an the next morning. He and the lass would take the high-speed rail; he had no desire to spend several hours in such a crowded car.
"Um, will Sister Yu be in Chang'an with us from now on?" Lin Ruoxi asked, blinking her big eyes.
Xue Rui paused for a moment. It seemed the lass really wanted Yu Minlan to go.
His original plan didn't include bringing Yu Minlan. He wanted her to stay in Hedong to occasionally visit the old lady, just to let the nursing home know that someone was checking in on her regularly.
"How about we make her your full-time assistant?" Xue Rui said with a smile. He thought the lass looked quite stylish in sunglasses, and having a female assistant by her side would give her the air of a celebrity.
The main reason was that although Yu Minlan was a bit slow and her abilities were limited, she bore no ill will toward Lin Ruoxi. If Lin Ruoxi didn't have many friends in the future, Yu Minlan could at least keep her company.
Besides, Yu Minlan herself didn't want to stay in Hedong. The reason seemed to be that her mother had arranged a whole slew of blind dates for her.
With him starting school, the most upset person was, surprisingly, Yu Minlan. She would no longer have an excuse to dodge the blind dates...
"But Sister Yu and I are friends," Lin Ruoxi said, not understanding Xue Rui's meaning as she focused on putting food on his plate.
Xue Rui laughed. 'How can the one paying the salary and the one receiving it be friends?'
She had wanted to cook many dishes for Xue Rui, but today was their last day in Hedong. Making too much would be a waste, and once they were at school, she'd have to eat with Xue Rui in the cafeteria.
"Rui... I... I want to buy a house in Chang'an," Lin Ruoxi said timidly. Although she had money in her bank account, she always felt that Xue Rui was like her guardian, so she should still tell him before making a big purchase.
"You don't need to tell me when you buy things," Xue Rui said with a nod. As long as she wasn't donating it or getting scammed, he didn't really care.
He actually had plans to buy a house too. Living in a dorm for all four years of college would be far too inconvenient.
'Besides, housing prices in Chang'an are low right now. By the time I graduate, they'll probably have doubled. It's a surefire investment...'
"Okay!" Lin Ruoxi nodded emphatically, her eyes crinkling with a deep smile.
After dinner and washing up, it was already past ten at night. The lass used various old bedsheets to cover all the furniture in the house, presumably to protect it from dust.
Xue Rui watched with a smile as the girl bustled about. He'd wanted to help, but she wouldn't let him.
Finally, the lass walked up to him with a bedsheet in hand, as if hinting for him to move his butt so she could cover the sofa as well.
"Let me do one last check." Xue Rui stood up and scanned the room. The apartment wasn't large; he could cross it in just a few steps.
He looked at the bunk bed, which had been stripped down to the bare frame. 'The lass never intended for me to sleep there at all,' he thought. 'That only leaves the double bed...'
He had actually anticipated this. The lass wasn't some shy little girl; not only was she not guarded around him, she was even eager to sleep with him.
"I... I didn't make enough food today," Lin Ruoxi said weakly, her head lowered and her gaze instinctively falling to her feet.
Xue Rui stifled a laugh. 'What is this girl rambling about?'
Her "conspiracy" had been exposed, and now she was tripping over her words.
"Are you going to make a midnight snack? What are we eating?" Xue Rui asked with a smile. 'Your intentions couldn't be more obvious.'
Lin Ruoxi looked up, her little face flushed red, looking all the more alluring in the dim light.
She shook her head slightly. "Eat... eat me."
Xue Rui's breath hitched for a moment. Who could possibly resist this?
He chuckled, scooped the lass up in his arms, and headed toward the bedroom.
A satisfied expression on her face, Lin Ruoxi wrapped her arms around Xue Rui's neck, pressing their cheeks together and nuzzling him by gently shaking her head...
THUD. The door was pushed shut by Lin Ruoxi's outstretched hand.
...
「The next morning.」
Xue Rui groggily opened his eyes to the sight of fiery red bedsheets—the same set the lass had used before.
'This girl is quite the schemer,' he thought. 'She's usually so frugal with electricity, but last night she set the air conditioner to a frigid sixteen degrees, with the vent aimed right at the bed!'
To make matters worse, it was a single-person blanket, and he was so cold he had no choice but to press himself against the lass.
