Rebirth: Pampered by the Lord
Chapter 2695: Evidence
"Yes!"
The maids heard Old Master Gu’s order and, as if shocked, jumped up and rushed to the bedside...
Out of fear of Old Master Gu, six or seven maids rushed to the bedside together, wanting to check if Aunt Yu was still alive.
"Bang!"
Without even seeing anything, due to the speed and force of their rush, all six or seven maids collided with each other, seeing stars right away and falling to the ground...
"Oh no, oh no, oh no!"
Six or seven maids piled on the ground, crying out in pain, the scene becoming chaotic.
Old Master Gu was livid: "Useless, all useless, can’t even handle a small matter!"
In his fury, he personally stepped in, only to find that Aunt Yu’s pupils had dilated, she was stone cold, her body had begun to cool, with no chance of survival.
Old Master Gu was so frightened that he trembled all over, his body weakening as he collapsed to the ground, hardly able to believe what he saw before him.
Aunt Yu had been lively just moments ago, nestling coquettishly in his embrace, how did she suddenly become a cold corpse in the blink of an eye?
Old Master Gu was filled with shock and fear, luckily he himself had narrowly escaped.
The servants saw his condition, and helped him back to his room to rest.
A little later, a doctor was summoned, who first checked Old Master Gu and said he had only suffered mild poisoning, with two days of medicine and some detoxification, he would be fine.
When examining Aunt Yu’s body, the doctor was startled, he found a large amount of arsenic in Aunt Yu’s system, therefore, her death was not surprising at all.
The strange thing was, Aunt Yu had consumed so much arsenic, yet that very night she had been with Old Master Gu for the evening without an issue, only in the wee hours did the problem arise.
Logically, arsenic is highly toxic, once ingested, a person would quickly die from poisoning.
However, Aunt Yu’s case was very odd, living well for several Shichen before succumbing to poison.
Old Master Gu’s situation was even more puzzling, the doctor had examined all his food, without finding any clues.
Due to Old Master Gu’s incident, the Eldest madam had no choice but to take charge.
The Eldest madam handled matters with propriety, leaving no faults to be found, she kindly said to the doctor: "Doctor, you’ve been troubled all night, it must be tiring. I specifically had the servants prepare some food, please take a meal and rest awhile! After dawn breaks, once I report this matter to the Old Master, a decision will be made, what do you think?"
The doctor nodded and agreed: "Very well, I thank the madam."
Eldest madam: "Thank you for the trouble of coming over at night, doctor."
The doctor humbly replied: "It’s my duty to serve the Old Master."
Subsequently, the Eldest madam had a maid escort the doctor to dine and rest.
At that moment, a maid approached, she was the Eldest madam’s personal maid.
The Eldest madam glanced around, ensuring no one was nearby, and quietly asked: "Is the flowerpot in the room dealt with?"
The flowerpot in the room had been sprayed with poison, it was evidence, must not be discovered by the Old Master. If he found out she was scheming behind his back, the Eldest madam might not hold her position, and her standing in the Gu Family could be jeopardized, even possibly affecting her children’s status within the family.
Thus this matter must be handled with utmost care, without drawing attention, not letting the Old Master find out, or else, it would be curtains.
Maid: "Rest assured, madam, this maid has already dealt with it."
"Are you sure?"
"This maid handled it personally."
"Was anyone aware?"
"No."
Only then did the Eldest madam feel at ease, as this matter was of great importance, concerning her standing in the Gu Family, she had to be cautious.
