Rebirth: I have Monopoly System

Chapter 466 - 393: Wu Yun Wants to Buy a Building, Farsighted and Visionary

  • Next Chapter

It was peak time for the elevators going up. Wu Yun didn’t try to pull any strings, instead queuing up behind one of the elevators.

Ever since riding his mom’s private elevator, Wu Yun felt it was necessary for the company to have its own building.

The three companies in Rongcheng had grown to a considerable scale, and Wu Yun felt it was necessary to get their own building.

New funds would be coming in soon in June, and Wu Yun thought the fastest solution was to just buy a building directly. It would save time and effort!

So he said to Wang Hao, who was beside him, "Wang Hao, keep an eye out for any office buildings for sale in Rongcheng! It has to be the entire building. There’s no point in buying a whole floor; we’d still have to squeeze in with other people!"

"Got it!" Wang Hao took out his phone to make a note.

As soon as Wu Yun said this, the people waiting for the elevator in front of him all turned their heads to look back, including a few attractive women.

One woman, while turning her head, whispered to her colleague, "What a braggart! He doesn’t even think before he speaks."

But after her colleague next to her discreetly nudged her, the woman got a clear look at the large men standing by Wu Yun’s side. Without a second thought, she shut her mouth and quickly turned her head back around.

As it happened, there were two Galaxy Network employees among the people waiting. One, who looked like a programmer, said excitedly, "President Wu! Are we moving to a new office!?"

The other employee, a woman, also looked at Wu Yun with an expectant gaze.

"It’s just an idea I had! Nothing’s set in stone yet! With so many people in Rongcheng, I imagine an office building will be hard to buy!"

Just as the programmer was feeling disappointed, he heard Wu Yun continue, "If we can’t buy one, we’ll figure it out then! If it comes down to it, we’ll just buy a plot of land and build one ourselves! The only thing is, it would probably take a year or two before we could move in! As the company grows, you’ll have to move once or twice more anyway."

"That’s why I think buying a building directly is faster! It solves all our problems in one go."

Just then, the people in front of Wu Yun got into the elevator. Wu Yun saw there were only two or three spots left, not nearly enough for his whole group, so he simply told the two employees, "You two go on up! I’ll wait for the next one!"

The two didn’t dare to refuse. They just said, "Thank you, President Wu," and got into the elevator.

After the elevator doors closed, the woman who had called Wu Yun a braggart immediately asked the programmer, "Hey, handsome! Was that guy your boss!? What company are you with?"

The programmer turned to size her up. He noted she was about on par with their company’s receptionist—a relatively pretty woman. He then smiled and said, "Yeah! You don’t know President Wu!? Do you play Honor of Kings?"

The woman shook her head. "I usually just binge-watch shows; I don’t play games. Is your President Wu famous?"

Her words seemed to open the floodgates for everyone in the elevator.

"Who is this President Wu?"

"Holy crap, you don’t know who Wu Yun is? Are you from Mars or something!?"

"So you’re saying that guy wasn’t joking about buying a building?"

After people from four or five floors got off, the elevator became more spacious. The female employee from Wuyun Company said proudly, "Just search for Wu Yun on Weibo! Then you’ll see if our boss is joking!"

...

When Wu Yun arrived at the company, tea had already been prepared in the office, including at the spot in the rest area where Wei Wu and his men usually stayed.

Wu Yun went to his office and saw Wang Chao and Qi Fei already standing at the door, so he beckoned them to come inside with him.

After sitting down, Wu Yun didn’t beat around the bush and said directly, "I’m sure you already know about the PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds tournament I announced! What are your thoughts on the first Honor of Kings tournament?"

Qi Fei handed Wu Yun a document he had prepared earlier. "President Wu, regarding our Honor of Kings tournament, President Wang, the department heads, and I discussed it and made some improvements based on the League of Legends tournament structure."

"Once we start promoting it, we’ll add a ’Team’ tab in the game."

"The year will be divided into two seasons: a Spring Split and an Autumn Split. Each season will consist of three parts: a regular season, playoffs, and a grand final."

"Due to the special circumstances this year, with your approval, we’ll only hold an Autumn Split for now!"

"However, since there aren’t any professional competitive teams in the country yet, we’ll first need to hold open qualifiers for the league teams."

"So, we’ll need to set up a national qualifier. Our initial idea is to select 18 teams to compete, divided into three groups. The top three from each group will advance to the playoffs, and then a grand champion will be decided."

Wu Yun nodded. This tournament format had mature examples to draw from, so they wouldn’t have to rack their brains and start from scratch like they did with PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.

Wu Yun gestured for Qi Fei to continue. Qi Fei glanced at the document in his hand and said, "In the future, we’ll have two seasons every year and use a relegation system for the bottom two teams. The last two ranked teams will be demoted to a lower-tier league."

"Alright! We’ll go with this model for now. But later on, I hope we can add international teams. After all, opening up the international market is part of our development plan!"

"By the way, what have you set as the prize money for the season champion?" Wu Yun asked casually.

At this point, Wang Chao spoke up. "Because our player base hasn’t peaked yet, and also considering the company’s profitability, the prize pool for the first season is set at 20 million Huaxia Coins. The top eight teams will split the prize pool, with the champion’s share being between 40% and 50%."

Wu Yun frowned for a moment, then relaxed. After all, it wouldn’t have been good if Wang Chao and the others had proposed too high a number, and the final decision was always his to make anyway.

"Too low! Set the first season’s prize money at 50 million! All teams that make it into the league will get a proportional share of the prize money! Of course, you’ll have to manage those proportions carefully!"

"We have to make the first tournament a huge success! We need to attract more players to join our Honor of Kings family!"

Wu Yun opened his phone, went to the memo app where he usually jotted things down, and tapped on a file. After looking at it for a moment, he said, "Summer vacation is coming up soon! We have to get a handle on the underage gaming issue. I’ll coordinate with Tencent. Because of the new payment system, WeChat will require real-name verification, and we absolutely must integrate with that data!"

"For those who don’t log in using WeChat or QQ, we need to require them to register with their real names. If they don’t fill it out, we’ll limit their game time and their ability to top-up!"

"Think about this problem. How do we do this without affecting our user registration or daily active users? Also, we must have a contingency plan and a public relations strategy for incidents of minors spending money recklessly! What do we do if a situation blows up? What if we’re deliberately targeted? For instance, what if we get accused of having Honor of Kings characters distort our country’s history and negatively influence the next generation?"

"Even though we haven’t actually created many historical figures in our character models yet!"

"But we’re growing so fast now, we can’t rule out jealous people trying to stir up trouble! While you’re working on the league plan, don’t neglect this contingency plan!"

Wang Chao and Qi Fei broke out in a sweat, a chill running down their spines. They had never considered the kind of situation Wu Yun described! If something like that happened, they would be caught completely off guard!

After noting down Wu Yun’s words, Wang Chao said with admiration, "President Wu, you’re truly farsighted! We have actually encountered the issue with underage top-ups twice. After the parents came to us and we verified the situation, we did issue refunds."

"But we’d never considered the possibility of being attacked as part of a targeted smear campaign like you described!"

"We’ll get on it right away! We’ll try our best to have a first draft of the relevant contingency plan by the end of this month!"

Wiping the cold sweat from their brows, Wang Chao and Qi Fei walked out of Wu Yun’s office. When Wang Chao reached his own office, he said to his secretary, Xiaolin, in the outer office, "Notify all department heads that there will be a meeting in the conference room in half an hour."
