Rebirth: I have Monopoly System
Chapter 465 - 393: Wu Yun Wants to Buy a Building, Farsighted
Susan, who was in the middle of a live stream, had no intention of answering her vibrating phone. She was right in the middle of a firefight. In a flash, however, she saw the caller ID: "Number One Fan."
Ignoring her in-game character and the viewers spamming "666" in the chat, Susan answered Wu Yun’s call right in front of everyone.
"Susan! Invite me!"
Wu Yun knew Susan was live, so he kept it brief and hung up.
By the time Susan snapped out of it and looked back at her screen, her character was already a death crate. A player was prone beside it, greedily looting her gear.
Susan glanced at the viewer comments in the chat and said with a smile, "That round was just a warm-up. Our Number One Fan, President Wu, is about to join!"
Since Susan streamed on camera and her skills and game sense had improved dramatically, her PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds stream consistently ranked in the top three for viewership.
Many newer fans had only ever seen the name Wushan Cloud Rain at the top of the supporter list and had never seen him say anything in chat. Naturally, people started asking about him.
When they found out that this Number One Fan was the legendary President Wu—the president of the very company that developed the game—the fans went wild, all of them demanding a four-man squad match.
Susan exited back to the game lobby and said with a laugh, "Settle down, everyone! As usual, President Wu will definitely want to play squads!"
Susan skillfully typed in the username Wushan Cloud Rain and sent a squad invite. A moment later, his character model appeared in the lobby.
"President Wu! Can you hear me?" Susan asked into her headset.
"Loud and clear! Hurry up and pick two more people for squads!" Wu Yun’s voice came through, and since it was a live stream, all the viewers heard him perfectly.
Instantly, the chat on Susan’s screen exploded with messages flying by. They were all "Pick me! Pick me!" along with their in-game names.
Susan randomly picked two lucky viewers for the squad, then selected the classic Erangel map.
While the game was loading, Susan asked, "President Wu, what was that Weibo post last night all about? Are you guys really holding a tournament!?"
Susan had been streaming all morning, so she hadn’t seen Wu Yun’s latest post.
As soon as she said it, she saw comments in her chat telling her she was behind the times, that President Wu had already made an official announcement, and so on.
She quickly opened Weibo to check her specially followed accounts, then said with a laugh, "Hey, I’ve been live this whole time! I haven’t had a second to look at my phone!"
"President Wu, would you mind giving us a sneak peek at the tournament details?" Susan asked, voicing the question on all her viewers’ minds.
Hearing Susan’s curious question, Wu Yun chuckled. "Alright, I’ll give you a quick rundown."
Wu Yun then briefly explained the team and solo tournaments they had discussed that day, also happening to mention the prize money for the national and world championships.
Hearing the massive figures, Susan’s stream chat erupted, and new viewers began pouring in.
"That’s President Wu for you! This prize pool completely blows the League of Legends tournament prize money out of the water!"
"I guess when you’re that rich, you can do whatever you want!"
"Boss, you looking for any hangers-on?"
"And just where on him would you be hanging?"
Wu Yun vaulted his character through a window, snatched up a shotgun, and blasted a player who’d landed with him and was trying to punch him to death. After the player turned into a loot crate, he finally spoke: "The team and solo tournaments are open to everyone. As long as you’re a gamer, you can participate!"
"You can form your own teams, but the roster must be locked in for the duration of the tournament! For more details, keep an eye out for the official announcement."
Wu Yun then added, "Hope to see you all at the live finals!"
For the rest of the game, Wu Yun would occasionally answer one of Susan’s questions, but otherwise played in silence, speaking only to make necessary callouts.
...
After a working lunch at the company, Wu Yun headed straight to the Galaxy Network offices.
On the way, as he passed through a bustling commercial district, Wu Yun spotted the signs for a couple of Luckin Coffee locations. Only then did he remember the coffee chain he had been letting run on its own.
Although Xu Chenxi messaged him daily, either just to chat or to give him updates on Luckin Coffee, Wu Yun hadn’t really delved into the company’s specifics. He just knew that Luckin Coffee now had locations in every major provincial capital, and had even expanded into other large cities.
At this thought, Wu Yun pulled out his phone and sent Xu Chenxi a message, telling her he’d be back in Modu around the middle of the month.
Xu Chenxi, of course, replied almost instantly with a happy emoji and a voice message.
"Perfect! I’m on a business trip in Guangzhou right now! I’ll head back to Modu in the middle of the month too!"
Wu Yun simply replied, "Stay safe. I’ve got something to do," and didn’t message her further.
Just then, the car pulled up to the office building that housed Galaxy Network. It was the tail end of the lunch break.
In Rongcheng, the lunch break was just over an hour long, so the sidewalks were bustling with people. Groups of twos and threes, smartly dressed "white-collar" workers, were everywhere.
"Another big shot making an entrance? I didn’t think there were any famous companies in our building," a young man said to his colleague, picking his teeth with a toothpick.
His colleague retorted, "What are you talking about? The company that developed Honor of Kings is in our building! I think they’re on the 15th or 16th floor."
The young man saw some women near the entrance reacting with perhaps a little too much excitement—one of whom he’d always considered a bit of an ice queen. He said with some annoyance, "Tch, it’s just a guy with some money... Holy shit! It’s Wu Yun! No wonder!"
