Chapter 440 - 380: Disguiser Wraps Up

  • Next Chapter

Not far away, Da Xiong, Caviar, and Li Fengying, who were resting, immediately stood up when they saw someone approaching. But when they saw the person was only taking out a business card, Caviar put away the Small Flying Knife.

Qi Fei’s brow furrowed, and her voice turned cold. "That won’t be necessary! If she were to join any company, it would be Phoenix Entertainment!"

Li Ming knew of Qi Fei’s background, so he simply apologized again and said, "Ma’am, if you change your mind, feel free to contact me!"

After speaking, he gave a slight bow, turned, and left, not heading in Kong Xin’s direction.

When Qi Fei saw Li Ming simply walk over to the rest area and sit down without causing any further trouble, she said disdainfully, "These people are so unobservant. Don’t they know about my connection to Phoenix Entertainment!?"

Then, a look of sudden realization dawned on Qi Fei’s face. "I see!"

Qi Fei looked Wen Meng up and down. The form-fitting jeans, paired with even a simple, plain white T-shirt, were enough to make countless men turn their heads.

While Qi Fei chatted intimately with Wen Meng, she kept an eye on the activity around Li Ming. Just as she expected, a trendily dressed man soon sat down next to him, and the two began whispering to each other.

"How did it go?" Kong Xin asked, sitting beside Li Ming without looking over at Wen Meng.

Li Ming sighed. "Young Master Kong, it’s not going to be easy. When I went over there, I noticed the two large foreign men next to Qi Fei’s female bodyguard."

"All three of them stood up the moment I approached."

"But one thing’s for sure: she’s not in the entertainment industry. She is, however, very wealthy."

Li Ming continued, "I think she’s either from a rich family herself or she’s some big shot’s woman. Either way, she’s not someone to be messed with."

A resentful look crossed Kong Xin’s face. "Are you sure?"

Li Ming nodded. "Yes, Young Master Kong. It’s best to give up."

Kong Xin reached into his pocket, his hand closing around a small bottle. He nodded reluctantly.

Just then, a cheer erupted from the crowd. "It’s a wrap!"

"We’re finally done!"

Li Xue’s voice rang out over the loudspeaker right on cue. "Everyone has worked hard for the past three months! The production team has booked a banquet at the hotel next door to celebrate our successful wrap! We’ll be in the Furong Hall at six p.m. sharp! Don’t be late! And tonight, no one goes home sober!"

The crowd broke out in excited expressions, and some even began to cheer.

"Oh, right! We still have a couple of hours! After you’ve all cleaned up the set, go back to your rooms and get washed up! I can smell some of you from here! How many days has it been since you’ve showered?"

"Go get scrubbed clean! Don’t ruin everyone’s appetite for the feast!"

"Hahaha!"

.....

The wrap party for the *Disguiser* crew was a grand affair. Not only was the entire cast and crew present, but Hou Hongliang, the chairman of Noon Sunshine, and the renowned director Kong Sheng also attended.

"Haven’t President Wu and President Wei from Phoenix Entertainment arrived yet?" Hou Hongliang asked a staff member, who was preparing for the banquet, as he stood by the entrance.

The crew member he’d asked answered nervously, "President Hou, I just spoke with President Wu’s secretary. They’ll be here in five minutes."

Hou Hongliang nodded and waved his hand, dismissing the staff member to get back to his work.

Standing behind Kong Sheng, Kong Xin couldn’t help but mutter, "These people from Phoenix Entertainment sure are full of themselves, making all of us wait for them."

As he spoke, Kong Xin glanced at the large crowd standing by the hotel entrance.

Although Kong Sheng was getting on in years, his hearing was still sharp. He turned and shot a fierce glare at Kong Xin. "You little brat! If you want your old man to lose his job, just come right out and say it!"

"When President Wu and his group arrive, you’d better be on your best behavior! They are not people that nobodies like us can afford to offend!"

Kong Xin muttered defiantly, "He just got lucky being born into the right family."

Hearing this, the fiery-tempered Kong Sheng smacked Kong Xin on the back of the head. "Are you f*cking looking down on your old man now?!"

He followed it with another smack to his head. "If you put half the energy you spend chasing women into your career, you wouldn’t be such a good-for-nothing!"

The people nearby watched this scene with amusement, clearly accustomed to it.

"They’re here! They’re here!"

"The people from Phoenix Entertainment have arrived!"

Several black cars drove right up to the hotel entrance, ignoring the road markings, before coming to a stop.

Kong Sheng gave up on hitting his son again and hurried with Hou Hongliang toward the black Mercedes S600L in the center of the convoy.

"Welcome! Welcome! President Wu, President Wei, it’s been too long!" Hou Hongliang boomed with a hearty laugh.

Wu Yun and Wei Feng exchanged a few pleasantries with Hou Hongliang and his group before being led into the hotel by Li Xue.

Trailing behind, Kong Xin watched with envy as Wu Yun walked ahead, the clear center of attention like the moon among stars. Any trace of pride he’d felt moments before completely vanished at the sight of him.

The hotel’s banquet hall was bustling and packed with people.

However, once the top executives made their entrance, the room gradually fell silent.

After Wu Yun and his group were seated, Li Xue began the evening’s formalities. Once the ceremony was over, she said, "Tonight’s ceremony will be brief. Since our time is limited and I don’t want to keep you from eating, drinking, and having fun, I’ll just say a few words..."

A few minutes later, the starving crowd breathed a collective sigh of relief. But just as they were about to pick up their chopsticks, they heard Li Xue speak again. "Thank you all for your months of hard work! I’ll drink to you all first!"

Resigned, everyone stood up and downed the drinks in their hands.

Wu Yun had already spotted Qi Fei and Wen Meng at the adjacent table, though he wasn’t sure how Wen Meng had managed to get a seat at the main cast’s table.

After everyone had eaten a little something to line their stomachs, the traditional Huaxia culture of toasting began.

"President Wu! I’d like to propose a personal toast to you! Thank you for your company’s generous help. It’s thanks to you that *Disguiser* was able to wrap so smoothly!" Hou Hongliang said, standing up and raising his glass.

Wu Yun also stood and smiled. "President Hou, you’re too kind. We’re in it to make a profit as well, and we have high hopes for *Disguiser*!"

After three rounds of drinks.

"President Wu! I hear your company is preparing for *The Immortal Ascension*! I was wondering if there might be a chance for our company to invest, or perhaps have some of our actors audition?" Hou Hongliang asked, finally revealing his true purpose.

Wu Yun smiled. "President Hou, my apologies, but we aren’t short on funding at the moment, so we have no plans to take on investors. As for auditions, however, that’s no problem. I’ll have President Wei send your company an invitation."

"After all, *The Immortal Ascension* has a very large cast. We’ll need many talented actors to join us."

An audition wasn’t a guarantee of a role, so Wu Yun agreed readily.

Hou Hongliang stood up again. "President Wu, thank you! I won’t say any more; it’s all understood."

With that, he drained the glass of baijiu in his hand.

Beside him, Kong Sheng looked as if he wanted to say something but held himself back.

"President Wu!"

Wu Yun turned to see Hu Ge approaching his seat, glass in hand.

Standing up with a smile, Wu Yun heard Hu Ge say, "President Wu! Thank you for giving me another opportunity to participate in a Xianxia drama! Thank you!"

After speaking, Hu Ge drained the baijiu from the small glass in his hand.

"Teacher Hu, I chose you as the male lead because of your own skill and hard work! You’re being too modest."

Wu Yun also drained his glass before continuing, "Teacher Hu, now that filming here is wrapped up, you can start looking at the original novel. *The Immortal Ascension* is about to be officially greenlit. If you have the time, Teacher Hu, I hope you can participate in the script adaptation."

Hu Ge hesitated for a moment before asking, "President Wu, when will the adaptation process begin?"

Wei Feng, who was nearby, chimed in with a smile, "Probably around May. We still need to select a director and screenwriter."

Hearing this, a look of regret crossed Hu Ge’s face. "That’s really unfortunate. *Good Times* has already started filming. I’m afraid I won’t be free until July."

"In the meantime, I’ll do my best to read the original novel to deepen my understanding of the main character and the plot."

Wu Yun raised the glass that Wei Feng had just refilled. "No problem, it’s normal to be busy. I hope the filming for your next show goes smoothly, Teacher Hu! Let’s drink to it!"

"To that!"

Just then, a startled cry came from the next table. "Ah, what are you doing?!"
