Chapter 181: Extra - : The Marriage-Pressuring United Front Alliance (1)
‘Behavioral motives, psychological profiling… For a certain someone, isn’t that just part of the job? A daily routine?’
Yu Xian looked up, glancing through the balcony door at his cousin on the sofa.
A meticulous psychological counselor who could see through any lie or pretense.
A police captain with sharp intuition, an overflowing sense of justice, and profound mental defenses.
If you put these two people together…
A bold, even somewhat crazy, idea suddenly popped into Yu Xian’s head.
It wasn’t even a question of whether they’d have common interests. This was…
A perfect professional match.
A normal man couldn’t withstand Dr. Wen Yu’s scrutiny and analysis, but that didn’t mean his cousin couldn’t.
Wen Yu’s Mind Reading Skill hitting him would be like punching an iron plate wrapped in cotton.
Yu Xian was reminded of the “self-contradiction” story from *Han Feizi*:
“My shield is so sturdy that nothing in the world is sharp enough to pierce it!”
“My spear is so sharp that it can pierce anything in the world, no matter how sturdy!”
“So what happens if you use your spear to strike your shield?”
‘Between Dr. Wen, the “sharp spear,” and my cousin, the “sturdy shield,” who would come out on top?’
At this thought, Yu Xian tapped on the pixelated kitten avatar.
“Actually, about the whole common interests thing… I don’t think it’s completely impossible to find a suitable person.”
At the top of the screen, the nickname “Uncertainty Robot” changed to “Typing…”.
“Wh-where would you find a suitable person?” Wen Xiao’s voice was soft and sweet.
Yu Xian complained internally. ‘She sends a voice message for just one sentence. This space-bun girl is unbelievably lazy.’
“My place.”
As soon as the message was sent, the “Typing…” at the top of the screen began to flicker frantically.
It flickered, then vanished. Flickered, then vanished again.
It reminded Yu Xian of the cosmic microwave background radiation after the Sophons enveloped Earth in *Three-Body*.
He stared at the pixelated kitten on the screen, puzzled. ‘What on earth is she trying to say?’
After a full thirty seconds, Wen Xiao’s message finally came through:
“Um… my sister is really hard to deal with, but… if it were you… it might not be impossible. No! I mean, you’re really smart and capable, but my sister is several years older than you… and we’re classmates… not that I care about seniority or anything… but… do you even like her type… the mature, sophisticated older woman type… I feel like she might not be a good fit for you… but, actually, you could probably handle her… right?”
It was a long, rambling message, and you could practically feel the sender’s flustered panic between the lines.
That final “right?” was tinged with a cautious, probing tone, as well as the guilt of someone with a guilty conscience.
Yu Xian stared at the incoherent string of messages, stunned for a moment before the corner of his mouth couldn’t help but twitch.
‘What kind of nonsense is going through this space-bun girl’s head?’
‘How could she possibly think I was offering myself up?’
One second they were talking about “finding a suitable person,” and the next, she’d fast-forwarded to the moral quandary of “are you going to be my brother-in-law?”
Him and Wen Yu?
Yu Xian imagined the scene:
Dr. Wen sits across from him, pushes up her glasses, and asks softly, “Yu Xian, the way your pinky finger lifted slightly just now when you drank your water… does that signify some kind of unfulfilled…”
He couldn’t help but shudder. The mental image was too horrifying to entertain.
‘That girl’s train of thought is really something else.’
But for some reason, Wen Xiao had been even shier around him these past few days, and there was also a strange sense of compliance.
Like right now. It was a completely absurd misunderstanding, yet her first reaction wasn’t to retort, “Are you crazy?” but to seriously consider, ‘if it were you… it might not be impossible.’
This inexplicable submissiveness sparked a mischievous urge in Yu Xian to tease her a little.
However, if he let this misunderstanding continue, his cousin’s important business would be delayed.
“What are you thinking about? I was talking about my cousin. The one I told you about before, remember?”
After he sent the message, the “Typing…” status on her end abruptly vanished.
A good while later, the phone vibrated. A voice message from Wen Xiao came through:
“You scared me to death… I thought you were going to sacrifice yourself to my sister…”
Yu Xian froze. ‘Why do I detect a faint, indescribable hint of… disappointment in her tone? Is it just my imagination?’
Shaking his head, he made the formal introduction:
“My cousin, Yu Zhengze. He’s the deputy captain of the municipal criminal investigation division. Good-looking, healthy, and he and Dr. Wen are professional partners. They’ll definitely have a lot to talk about.”
After a pause, Yu Xian added:
“He has a very high opinion of Dr. Wen. He’s always telling me how professional she is. I told you last time, he was the one who recommended I go see Dr. Wen for a consultation in the first place.”
“I remember! I told my sister about it later. She respects your cou— She respects Captain Yu a lot, too. Last time we talked about it, she said she thinks Captain Yu is a ‘beast with absolute intuition.’ Even though he doesn’t know all the complex psychological theories, his animal-like instincts are even more accurate than a psychological profile.” Wen Xiao’s voice was filled with excitement:
“Oh my god, I suddenly think they’re a perfect match! Isn’t this like a real-life version of *Mr. and Mrs. Smith*? If she could bring Captain Yu home, my mom would be ecstatic!”
“Exactly. And that way, someone can keep an eye on my cousin and make him smoke less and take better care of his health,” Yu Xian agreed.
