Chapter 1647: Clearly, You’re Far Too Sentimental

Yes!

Alice Turner really wanted to say a firm and definite yes into the phone, but in the end she still swallowed that impulse. If she dared say that, with Isla Lane’s temper she would definitely blow up at her.

That former mother?in?law of hers, once she blows up, there’s nothing she wouldn’t do. If something unpleasant really happened, her husband would end up in a tough spot.

On one side is his good buddy’s mom, on the other side is his wife. Of course she knows what place she holds in her husband’s heart, but...

She decided to just endure it and not fuss too much with a housewife.

"No, Auntie, I really do have a lot of things I need to take care of." Alice suppressed the urge to lose her temper and spoke as nicely as she could.

Hearing that, Isla felt a lot better; her tone and attitude both warmed up. "I knew it, how could Alice possibly find me annoying."

Alice fell silent—not because she didn’t know how to respond, but because she didn’t want to respond anymore. She quietly waited for this self?satisfied person to have the sense to hang up.

"Alice! You’re coming to see Benjamin after work today, right? We haven’t seen you for two days, we all really miss you, especially Benjamin. He was even calling your name in his sleep last night." Whether she didn’t care or just didn’t notice that Alice’s silence was a little off, Isla once again started talking on her own.

Alice rubbed her temples, head aching. She was about to say something, but realized the person on the other end had absolutely no intention of hanging up, so she could only speak bluntly. "Auntie! I get it, let’s leave it at that. I really do have a lot to deal with right now."

Once she finished, without waiting for the person on the other end to respond, she decisively hung up.

"Sis! Was that your ex?husband’s mom again?"

Anthony looked at Alice’s face and saw that after she hung up, her expression didn’t look very good.

"Go out. I’m starting work."

Alice put on a strictly businesslike look and gave Anthony the boot. She’d already wasted two days, and she didn’t want to waste any more time on other things—her time is very valuable too, okay?

Anthony had still wanted to hang around and dawdle a bit longer, but seeing Alice already focused on her computer and getting into work mode, he didn’t say another word. He stood up and quietly left.

After he went out, he very thoughtfully closed the door to her office.

How can that ex?husband’s mom be like this? Always calling to harass his dear Alice. His dear Alice has a husband now—what is that former mother?in?law doing, constantly calling like this?

Anthony glanced back at the door to Alice’s office, then took his phone out of his pocket. As he dialed a number, he headed toward his own office.

"Hello!"

The call went through, and an elegant, pleasant female voice came from the other side.

"Hello! Seeing me call you, do you feel super surprised?" Hearing that familiar, beautiful voice, Anthony couldn’t help cracking a joke.

"Absolutely not surprised—more like startled." The person on the other end let out a cold snort. "So you still remember I exist? How did I never realize you’re this heartless?"

Anthony’s lips curled in a silly little grin, but he didn’t actually let out a silly laugh. What he said sounded serious—fake?serious. "How am I heartless? Clearly you’re just too sentimental."

"Brat! Say one more stupid thing and I’ll rip that mouth of yours right off, believe it or not?" The elegant voice on the other end turned into a coquettish angry tone, but it didn’t carry even a hint of real threat.
