Ranaway From Wedding, Fell into Tycoon's Love Trap
Chapter 1646: Lying
“Not at all.”
As Anthony spoke, he followed Alice Turner into the office, moving as if he were navigating his own space.
Alice Turner paid no attention to the person following her, going straight to her desk and sitting down, while Anthony sat uninvited on the chair opposite her.
“I haven’t seen you these past two days, and I’ve missed you terribly, so much that I couldn’t eat or sleep.” He spoke to her from behind the desk, seemingly absorbed in his own narrative.
“Keep making it up.”
Alice Turner glanced at Anthony but didn’t stop what she was doing, taking out her laptop to boot it up and start her work for the day.
Anthony raised his hand to swear, “I swear…”
At that moment, the phone in Alice Turner’s bag suddenly rang, and she reached for the bag, pulling out the phone that wouldn’t stop ringing.
Aunt Liu!
Seeing the name saved in her phone, Alice Turner’s face darkened slightly, and she slid her finger across the screen to answer the call.
“Aunt! Is there something you need?” she spoke with complete politeness, yet her attitude remained detached.
“Alice! Your phone is finally on; what have you been busy with these last few days? Why wasn’t your phone on?” Isla Lane didn’t answer Alice Turner’s question but posed two questions of her own.
Seeing Alice Turner’s expression sour due to the call, Anthony instantly guessed who was on the other end; aside from Benjamin Shaw’s mother, no one else could be this troublesome.
Anthony himself hadn’t missed any calls from Isla Lane these past few days; every time she called, she asked the same thing.
Where’s your sister? Can you reach your sister?
If he weren’t worried about causing trouble for Alice Turner by saying the wrong thing, Anthony really wanted to tell Isla Lane directly that his sister and brother-in-law were happily at home.
Thinking about his actions over the past few days, Alice Turner’s cheeks flushed red, “My phone broke, what do you need from me?”
Facing such a clingy former mother-in-law, she lied.
Ha!
Anthony couldn’t help but chuckle, and Alice Turner glanced over at him, only to see him giving her a big thumbs up, to which she responded with a glare.
“I don’t have anything particular; I just haven’t seen you come to visit Benjamin these past two days, so I thought something might have happened to you since you weren’t picking up. I thought I’d call to check on you.” Isla Lane said it was nothing, yet specifically mentioned Benjamin Shaw, clearly wanting Alice Turner to visit her injured son in the hospital.
Alice Turner had anticipated that Isla Lane would bring this up, and both internally and outwardly, she didn’t pretend to be surprised, “No need to worry, Aunt Liu. I’m fine.”
If she wanted to go to the hospital, she would go on her own, never accepting anyone’s hints or suggestions. She disliked being led around like that.
“I feel better knowing you’re alright.”
Isla Lane wanted to continue, but Alice Turner’s voice came from the other end of the phone, “Aunt! If there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up. I’m busy with work at the company right now.”
Alice Turner didn’t want to linger in conversation with Isla Lane, as it was always the same few sentences exchanged.
Whether Alice Turner was truly busy with work or finding an excuse to end the call was difficult for Isla Lane to discern, but either way, she was a bit displeased.
“Is something wrong? Are you annoyed that I’m disturbing you?” Her words carried heavy dissatisfaction, and her tone was unmistakably questioning, decidedly not courteous.
