Raising the Villain in Wrong Way
Chapter 451: Heart Fire
Ji’an cheered, walking alongside the Chief Forgemaster, already deep in conversation about the optimal internal temperature for slow-roasting root vegetables in volcanic ash.
But as the retinue watched their beautiful, silver-haired idol walk away, abandoning them to the soot and the sweat, one figure refused to accept the delegation.
Xie Wangchen stepped to the edge of the yacht.
The Ice Demon was not going to a forge.
The Ice Demon was not going to train with junior disciples who smelled of sulfur and sweat.
Where the Chef went, the Ice Demon followed.
It was a fundamental law of his universe.
He took a step off the leaf, his pristine white robes untouched by the ash falling around them.
Before his boot could touch the basalt pad, a blur of midnight-purple silk materialized directly in his path.
Yan Zhaoge stood between Wangchen and the retreating form of Lin Ji’an.
The Overtime Boss did not have his pipe, but he possessed an aura of terrifying, peak-stage Sovereign authority that completely locked down the spatial coordinates around the yacht.
The air itself grew dense, heavy, and violently hot, pushing back against the aggressive, expanding wave of Wangchen’s black frost.
"Ah, ah, ah," Yan Zhaoge tutted lazily, his hands tucked into his wide sleeves, his dark amber eyes glinting with a wicked, highly entertained malice. "Did you not hear your Vanguard Leader, little icicle? Guests to the training yards. The Chef is with the adults."
Wangchen’s ruby eyes snapped to Yan Zhaoge.
The crimson light bleeding from his irises intensified, a blizzard of razor-sharp ice shards materializing in the air around him.
"Move," Wangchen whispered.
It was not a request.
It was a promise of violence. "If you block my path to her, I will shatter your core and scatter the frozen pieces into your own volcano."
Yan Zhaoge didn’t flinch.
He actually chuckled, a low, rumbling sound that vibrated with immense, unyielding power.
"You are welcome to try, Sovereign Xie," Yan Zhaoge drawled, taking a slow, deliberate step forward, his towering height casting a long shadow over the Ice Demon. "But I assure you, my thermal arrays are significantly more robust than a brothel’s wooden doors. And if you throw a tantrum and attempt to freeze my courtyard... the Chef will be incredibly disappointed in you."
The tactical deployment of the phrase "the Chef will be incredibly disappointed in you" hit Wangchen’s yandere psyche with the devastating precision of a sniper rifle.
Wangchen’s breath hitched.
The blizzard of ice shards instantly halted in mid-air.
He knew it was true.
Ji’an had explicitly ordered him to be on his best behavior. She had ordered him to stand down.
If he initiated a sectarian war with the Iron-Stone Monastery right now, Ji’an would not look at him with the fond, exasperated reliance she had shown on the yacht.
She would look at him with genuine anger. She would look at him the way she looked at the other annoying boys.
The thought of losing her favor, of being relegated to the status of a mere nuisance, physically hurt him more than a thousand swords.
Wangchen’s jaw clenched so tightly the muscles jumped.
The black frost slowly receded into his core, evaporating into steam against the ambient heat of Yan Zhaoge’s aura.
"I will tolerate this separation," Wangchen hissed, his voice trembling with the sheer, monumental effort of suppressing his homicidal urges. "But if you lay a single hand on her. If you attempt to leverage her culinary devotion for your own amusement while she is isolated in your kitchens..."
Wangchen stepped closer, entirely fearless, his eyes burning into the older Sovereign’s.
"...I will not care about her disappointment. I will eradicate you."
Yan Zhaoge smiled, a dark, foxy, entirely unapologetic smirk.
"Your devotion is commendable, Ice Demon. It is deeply pathetic, but commendable," Yan Zhaoge mocked softly. He turned on his heel, his purple robes swirling. "Enjoy the anvil-lifting. I hear it does wonders for the triceps."
As Yan Zhaoge sauntered away to catch up with Ji’an and the elders, Wangchen stood frozen on the basalt pad, his heart a chaotic, churning vortex of jealousy and separation anxiety.
Behind him, Shen Zechuan hopped off the palm leaf, holding a glowing piece of volcanic rock he had just picked up from the ground.
"Sovereign Xie!" Zechuan called out happily, completely oblivious to the apocalyptic tension. "Look! The rocks here are spicy! I licked this one, and it burned my tongue, but it tastes like sulfur and crunchy dirt! Do you want to try? It is very warm!"
Wangchen closed his ruby eyes, letting out a long, heavy, miserable sigh.
"Do not ingest the magma, Zechuan," Wangchen murmured softly, resigning himself to his fate. "The Chef will be angry if you melt your own stomach lining."
***
Deep within the cavernous, roaring heart of the volcano, Lin Ji’an had found paradise.
The Grand Kitchens of the Iron-Stone Monastery were an industrial marvel that combined the brutal efficiency of a military forge with the high-output capacity of a catering hall.
There were no delicate porcelain tea sets and no fragile jade carving knives.
The prep tables were massive slabs of solid, polished black obsidian.
The woks were cast-iron behemoths that required two men to lift.
The ovens were literal, controlled fissures in the rock face, venting pure, geothermally heated magma-air directly into the roasting chambers.
"It’s beautiful," Ji’an whispered, actually wiping a tear of joy from her eye. "It’s the most magnificent, overpowered, OSHA-violating kitchen I have ever seen."
"We built it to withstand the demands of the Heart Fire," Elder Ignis boasted proudly, leading her past a line of sweating, heavily muscled cooks who were aggressively searing massive cuts of meat over open magma vents.
"The Heart Fire?" Ji’an asked, her culinary curiosity instantly piqued.
Elder Ignis paused at an empty obsidian prep station.
He didn’t turn to a stove.
He picked up a thick, raw, unseasoned slab of Desert-Ox steak with his bare hand.
"Orthodox cultivators use their core to project energy outward. They use it to form swords, shields, or healing light," Ignis lectured, his fiery eyes glowing intensely. "But the Iron-Stone doctrine teaches internal thermal combustion. We do not project our fire; we swallow it. We ignite a furnace within our own meridians, using the physical density of our bodies as the kiln."
Ignis closed his eyes.
He didn’t chant.
He simply took a deep, shuddering breath.
Ji’an watched in absolute awe as the Chief Forgemaster’s skin began to glow with a faint, cherry-red luminescence.
The temperature around him skyrocketed. He was literally turning his physical body into a high-yield thermal conductor.
He didn’t place the meat on a pan.
He simply pressed the raw steak between his two bare palms.
HIIISSSSSSSS~~!
The sound of aggressively searing meat echoed loudly in the kitchen. Thick, savory smoke billowed from between his hands.
In less than three seconds, Ignis pulled his hands apart.
The steak was perfectly, flawlessly seared on both sides, a thick, caramelized crust forming across the surface, while the inside remained a juicy, tender medium-rare.
Ji’an’s jaw unhinged.
She dropped her spatula on the obsidian table with a loud clatter.
"You..." Ji’an stuttered, pointing a trembling finger at the steak. "You just cooked a steak using your bare hands. You used your own localized body heat as a flat-top grill."
"The Dao of the Heart Fire!" Ignis laughed booming, tossing the perfectly seared meat onto a platter. "We forge our weapons the same way! Why rely on external coal when your own soul burns hotter than a star?! It allows for unparalleled thermal control! We can sense the exact internal temperature of the meat through our own nervous system!"
Ji’an stared at her own hands.
Her mind, usually grounded in modern thermodynamics, instantly grasped the catastrophic, limitless potential of this cultivation method.
’If I could learn the Heart Fire...’ Ji’an’s internal monologue began to vibrate with manic, Michelin-star ambition. ’I wouldn’t need a stove. I wouldn’t need a wok. I could perfectly temper chocolate by just holding the bowl. I could perfectly poach an egg in my own palm. I could execute a simultaneous, multi-station tasting menu using nothing but my own bio-thermal output!’
It was the ultimate holy grail of culinary cultivation.
"Elder Ignis," Ji’an said, her voice dropping into a register of terrifying, unyielding devotion. She stepped forward, grabbing the blacksmith by his thick forearms.
"I need you to teach me this. I need to learn the Heart Fire immediately."
