Raising the Forgotten Snake Goddess with my Divine Faith System
Chapter 123: Ch 122: Sneaking into the room
The week passed in the blink of an eye, and it was time for the local god’s meetup before Aiden knew it.
He allowed his goddess to hide in his collar, just like always, and then went off. It was finally time to show those lowly gods that his goddess was nothing like them.
The journey took almost no time since the meeting was being held right outside his territory. The roads had been paved all the way until the end, and the carriage arrived there in no time.
When Aiden entered the new village, he immediately noticed that the people were looking at him with suspicion and awe. They were openly pointing at him...or rather, his simple yet costly outfit he had on.
He could even hear them talking...
’Want me to take care of these humans? Making a few...or well, a dozen humans disappear should not be a big deal.’
Goddess Apophis offered, and Aiden immediately shook his head.
"There is no need for you to go that far. These people are just in awe of your power. One day, they will be your followers, so let’s leave them be for now."
Aiden reminded the goddess, but this was mostly because he did not want to cause trouble for his goddess.
At least, not before the meeting.
Once the initial curiosity about him started to fade, people went back to what they were doing, and Aiden headed toward the well-maintained temple in front of him.
The whole place tried to put pressure on him and his goddess since it was foreign territory, but it had no effect on either of them. They were too used to such pressure by now to get bothered by it.
The second they entered the temple, it shook a little. It resisted them as well, but they managed to get past the barrier anyway.
It caused the priests to come running toward them, and they were welcomed with wide-eyed expressions of wonder.
"You are...what do you want?"
The guards were concerned to see them...or rather, feel their presence. But Aiden kept his smile plastered on his face as he handed the priest the letter in his hand.
It was enhanced to not show the real words on it, and it immediately made the priest sigh in relief.
"I see. So you are a guest for the upcoming festival as well. You scared us. I don’t know why the temple shook like that, but we were afraid we were under attack or something..."
The priest tried to laugh out in relief, but it wouldn’t come. It was clear that he was still stressed over what had just happened.
Aiden was not one to feel sorry for anyone else, but this priest truly looked like he was having a hard time.
"Well, I also don’t know why that shaking happened, but I am sure that it was a coincidence. Now, can you show me to my room?"
He asked with a smile, and the priest nodded.
"Of course. Please follow me."
And Aiden did. He followed the man all the way back to the room he was assigned, and he quickly settled down.
It was a good room considering the time period they were in. It had a lot of natural light and was also cool enough to not cause discomfort.
But it was far away from the luxury Aiden was used to, and he refused to put his goddess down on such a hard surface.
So the first thing he did after settling down was take out the mattresses that he had bought in advance, and he allowed his goddess to relax on the softness.
"Well, it seems like these people do intend to treat us well for now. What do you think, Goddess Apophis? Do you like this temple? Want me to conquer it for you?"
Aiden asked his goddess, who looked around with a frown.
"It is a fine temple, but I prefer one we have more. As for these people, let’s focus on that later. For now, I just want to sleep."
Aiden allowed his goddess to rest for now.
Since they were in foreign lands, his goddess was under a lot of pressure. Not only was her power being restricted by the territory and multiple other gods, but she was also maintaining the barrier in her own territory.
It all required a lot of time and effort, but his goddess was still not complaining.
Aiden watched over her sleeping form for a minute before he felt his eyes starting to close as well. Before he knew it, he had fallen asleep as well.
But not without taking precautions against the people who could try to harm him and his goddess.
He had laid his room with traps that would catch anyone trying to get to them. And honestly, it did not even take 10 minutes for Aiden’s ’weird feeling’ to get turned into certainty.
The first sign of trouble came when Aiden heard a faint sound coming from outside his room, followed by the barely audible creaking of the wooden floor as someone tried to approach without making too much noise.
Aiden opened his eyes and immediately looked toward his goddess, who was still sleeping peacefully beside him.
He did not want to wake her unless it was necessary, so he slowly reached toward the system and activated one of the traps he had prepared.
The moment the intruder stepped inside, the room suddenly lit up with a faint glow, and a thin barrier formed around the person.
"What are you doing here?"
Aiden asked in a calm voice as he sat up, causing the intruder to freeze.
"I...I was just checking on our guest."
The excuse was terrible, and Aiden could tell that the person was lying without needing the system to confirm it.
And unfortunately for this intruder, this would become the last lie he would be able to tell in his life. He was not going to live to see tomorrow after his offense.
