Chapter 1466: Chapter 439: [Knowledge Changes Destiny]_2
They understand; this is where the two of them currently are.
Then the boy drew the nearby road, and next, the road kept going forward, then another road, an intersection, the direction of the turn...
The boy was clever, and Chen Yan was clever too. Before long, he somehow understood the crude map the boy had drawn.
After all, in such a remote place, there are few roads, and it’s not like an advanced road network; one just needs to remember the major intersections and turns.
Chen Yan was very satisfied and pulled out a ten US dollar bill, threw it on the counter, and turned to walk out of the RV door. Behind him, the boy excitedly shouted, probably saying some words of thanks.
As Chen Yan walked out the door, he saw several men dressed in local clothing swaggering towards him.
The last two people were clearly attracted by the RV parked by the roadside.
This RV was bought for Chen Yan by Chu Keqing — Chen Yan didn’t know much about RVs or how much this vehicle cost and what grade it belonged to.
However, something bought by a wealthy woman like Chu Keqing certainly couldn’t be cheap goods.
The RV was tall and large, and judging by the size of the vehicle, it obviously wasn’t inexpensive.
As expected, parked by the roadside, these few local thugs could not help but be drawn to it. ℴ
Chen Yan didn’t bother to talk much, just walked straight over. These thugs looked as dirty as the boy and, judging by their glances at Chen Yan and the RV, seemed somewhat restless.
However, the one leading them seemed to have seen a bit of the world, and after a reprimand, made his two companions retract their gaze.
He scolded his companions a few times, then looked at Chen Yan.
Although Chen Yan couldn’t understand him, he could tell by the tone—this guy was cautious, likely warning his companions not to provoke trouble.
Indeed, anyone driving such an obviously high-status RV is likely someone they can’t afford to mess with.
Moreover, Chen Yan’s clothes were clearly much more refined compared to those of the locals.
The thugs hesitated reluctantly before moving away, and Chen Yan ignored them, walked over to unlock, get in, and close the RV door.
He sat in the driver’s seat, first drank a bottle of water, then tore open some newly bought cookies and chocolate, eating two pieces.
The taste was quite ordinary.
From the corner of his eye, he saw those thugs walking into the rusty iron door of the gas station.
Just as Chen Yan swallowed the last piece of chocolate, suddenly his ears twitched.
At his level of cultivation, his hearing was sharp and could distinctly hear a scream.
The voice was easily recognizable as coming from the boy who had drawn the map for him.
Following that, with a bang, the iron door was slammed open, and the boy staggered out, but was soon kicked and toppled by one rogue chasing from behind.
The people inside rushed out as well, surrounding the boy, punching and kicking.
The boy, weak alone, didn’t resist, couldn’t run, and had to curl up on the ground, hands over his head, letting them beat him while periodically screaming or attempting to shield his vital parts.
Obviously, he was often beaten and was quite experienced.
The screams weren’t necessarily from pain, but to make sounds of ’submission.’
Avoiding vital parts while being beaten was to reduce his injuries.
Quite experienced!
Then, the leader of the thugs also came out.
Chen Yan noticed he had a stack of money in his hand.
The dirty bills were sparse and looked like there wasn’t much.
But among them were two US dollar bills, which were clearly the ones he had just left.
Holding the US bills, the leader’s expression was slightly off, seeming somewhat greedy.
He went over, shoving aside a companion kicking the boy, then harshly questioned a few times.
The boy held his head, merely shook it, seemingly mumbling a few words, but probably didn’t say anything useful—since the leader angrily slapped him a few more times.
At this point, his companion tugged him aside, and he immediately turned around.
He muttered a couple of things to his companion, then after a reminder, looked over at the RV!
The companion pointed at the US bills in the leader’s hand and then pointed at the RV.
The leader seemed hesitant but quickly greed overtook his gaze.
With a shout, the bunch of rogues responded quickly.
Some pulled weapons off themselves, likely short knives or daggers.
Others dug out a steel pipe from a pile of trash next to the gas station.
The leader led his companions, striding over towards the RV.
Chen Yan sighed.
He initially thought this leader had some discernment and knowledge of the world, someone who understood the value of things.
Turns out, he overestimated him.
As the leader whistled, suddenly a rundown pickup parked a bit farther down the road revved up quickly and drove over.
The vehicle swerved and parked right in front of the RV.
The entire time, Chen Yan hadn’t moved; he merely watched quietly as the leader of the thugs, weapon in hand, faced him threateningly.
From behind him, two more men jumped out of the rundown pickup.
