BOOM

A heavy explosion rocked a rocky terrain, sending shards of stone flying around. Aside from the stones, blood also splattered into the air, and smoke from the explosion obscured the terrain.

Standing at the center of this explosion was, of course, Alina, surrounded by the dead bodies of beasts, most of them at the demigod stage, though a few god-level beasts were among their ranks.

Kent stood beside her, his arms folded over his chest, a look of intrigue crossing his face.

It had been a day since Alina improved the Battlefield Matrix, making it more energy-efficient. Since then, they had been attacking just about any beast they saw with it.

After a day of constant battles, he had come to the conclusion that against supreme-level beasts and above, if there were multiple targets, killing them using the Battlefield Matrix would be hard.

The Battlefield Matrix worked well against even multiple God-level beasts, but when they faced supreme-level beasts, it took time and a lot of energy to handle them.

Luckily for them, the majority of the cores harvested from their battles went back into empowering the formation, so Alina herself didn’t have to use her energy.

But still, despite the modifications she had made, things still seemed to be lacking. But who was Kent if not one of the greatest cultivators to walk the face of the universe?

He identified some key problems and helped Alina fix them. So after spending a full day going back and forth, they had managed to improve efficiency and maximize offense.

Now, the Battlefield Matrix was on another level.

"That took less than five minutes and half the energy needed compared to the previous version," Alina said happily as she turned and looked at Kent.

Kent smiled and cupped her cheeks, planting a kiss on her lips. "Looks like with a few more tweaks, we can complete version 2 in no time."

"It appears so. But before we can be sure, we have to use it against Supreme-level beasts. I am sure now it can handle them in no time."

Kent nodded, and so after collecting the cores and blood essence, they left.

"I have been thinking, maybe instead of just using the cores as an energy source, you can also incorporate blood essence. You have to know that blood essence is far more powerful than beast cores, and unlike beast cores that have impurities, blood essence doesn’t, so what do you think?"

"You are the wise one, Kent, so whatever you say, I will do it," Alina said, smiling and giggling.

Kent just smirked and opened his palm, summoning an array he had created while observing Alina for the last couple of hours. "Merge this with the Battlefield Matrix, and let’s try it when we meet the next set of beasts."

Alina nodded and did as she was told.

She had already discovered that Kent wasn’t a novice when it came to runes. In fact, he was very talented, perhaps even more than she was if mere rune carving were put into perspective.

Maybe she surpassed him in some other fields, but she would never doubt Kent’s uncanny ability to draw runes.

So she merged his array with her Battlefield Matrix, not even considering the possibility that he might have made an error in his array that could later destroy her own. That was how much she trusted him.

After wandering for a few hours, they spotted three supreme-level serpent beasts, each as big as a house.

"Here is blood essence from a supreme beast. Start with the core energy, then add the blood essence to see the difference in energy output."

She nodded, and without a care in the world, she moved in the direction of the beasts. If this had been before she met Kent, she would have run, her butt shaking behind her.

But things were different now.

Just as she got within 2 km of the beasts, they spotted her and, like the hungry beasts they were, lunged at her, venom forming in their mouths.

Alina smirked and extended her palm, activating the Battlefield Matrix.

Just then, one of the snakes unleashed a deadly breath attack, shooting poison at Alina. The formation acted on its own, creating a shield around her.

The moment the poison landed on it, an array spun into existence and unleashed a beam powerful enough to kill a god. The beam landed on the snake that unleashed the breath attack, sending it crashing into the distance.

The second and third snakes, in turn, moved to surround her, hoping to use their long, large bodies to entangle her. However, another array was activated, and thousands of metal spikes shot out, piercing their skin.

Blood gushed out, causing painful hissing sounds to flow from their mouths.

"Serves you right, punks."

She turned to Kent, who gave her a thumbs-up and said, "Use the blood essence."

She nodded and tapped into the blood essence array that Kent had her linked to the formation. She then retrieved a blood essence Kent had given her prior to this battle and added it to the array.

At once, the formation released a powerful shockwave, then something strange happened.

The arrays activated, and at once, deadly attacks, far more powerful than any previous attacks, were unleashed, and the three snakes never had the chance to even escape.

"What the fuck?" Alina was left dumbfounded, unsure of how to feel right now.

Kent appeared beside her and smiled. "I knew it. The core had impurities, and considering we have tweaked the efficiency metrics, it was only using clean energy to power the arrays.

That may have lowered its effectiveness and output efficiency. However, since blood essence isn’t contaminated, it was able to take what it needed to power the arrays."

Alina nodded, a look of admiration appearing on her face. "You are amazing, Kent." She jumped into his arms and kissed him.

Kent smiled and kissed her back. After setting her down, he reached to retrieve the blood essence from the three snakes when his mind was suddenly struck by a deadly pain.

"AAAAHHHHHGGGG!"

The pain was so much that he dropped to his knees, clenching his head.

Alina panicked and rushed to his side. But just then, some people who had been following them revealed themselves and aimed to ambush them.

Safe to say, Alina was pissed, so she did the only logical thing: she killed them all using the Battlefield Matrix.

A few minutes later, Kent opened his eyes. "I think I know where we have to go."
