Chapter 544: Chapter 542: His Name is Aaron Sinclair, He Has His Own Name

He sat on the bed, quietly surveying his surroundings. The room was unfamiliar and quiet, its furnishings simple yet grand, exuding an air of elegance from every corner.

He felt the duvet beneath his hands.

It was the finest cloud brocade.

And...

As if noticing something, the boy lifted his hand. His gaze fell upon his sleeve, then traveled over the rest of his clothes. A flicker of surprise appeared in his eyes.

’These clothes... they look so luxurious.’

A white robe with golden embroidery. The cuffs, collar, and sash were red. He was surprised to find that the red-and-white style suited him perfectly, and he liked it. It was as if he was born with a love for such attire.

The clothes were soft and comfortable, fitting him perfectly, as if they had been tailor-made.

His hair was tied back in a ponytail with a golden ribbon. His gaze fell on the end of the ribbon resting on his shoulder.

He gently pressed a finger against the ribbon on his shoulder. The images of the man and woman surfaced in his mind.

’They said they’re my real parents.’

’So it wasn’t a dream. It was all real.’

The boy glanced around the empty room and scrambled out of bed. Without even stopping to put on shoes, he threw the door open and ran out.

The room had a wooden floor, and the corridor outside was laid with the same smooth planks. His bare feet felt nothing sharp.

In the courtyard, a trellis heavy with grapevines covered nearly half the space. Bunches of ripening, purple-tinged grapes hung between the green leaves, their sweet fragrance wafting through the air.

A figure was seated at the stone table beside the trellis. He sat sideways, his posture tall and slender. It was the man who had held him the night before. Today, he wore moon-white robes embroidered with golden cloud patterns. Even in profile, the aura he exuded while sitting there was more imposing than that of the current Emperor.

The boy stopped in his tracks, his gaze fixed on the man at the stone table.

Sensing the boy’s stare, Javier Sinclair raised his eyes from the stone table to look at him. He sized his son up, and his gaze finally settled on the boy’s bare feet.

"You’re awake. Why did you come out without shoes?"

The moment he spoke, the boy standing there snapped out of his daze. He glanced down at his bare feet and scratched his head in embarrassment. The gesture was familiar, unchanged.

"I’ll go put them on right now." With that, he turned and hurried back into the room. A moment later, he emerged again.

Seeing his son emerge, Javier Sinclair beckoned to him.

"Come on over."

The boy ducked his head.

’I can’t be a coward,’ he told himself, taking a deep breath. With that thought, he lifted his chin, squared his shoulders, and walked over. "What do you want?"

He stopped a short distance away from Javier Sinclair.

Javier Sinclair glanced at him. "Why are you standing so far away? I’m your father. It’s not like I’m going to eat you."

"Staying here is fine," he said, not moving. "If you have something to say, just say it. I’m listening."

Seeing his son’s determination to keep his distance, Javier Sinclair rose to his feet. The boy had to tilt his head back to look at the man who now towered over him.

Javier Sinclair reached out, pulled the boy to his side, and sat back down. Grasping his son’s arms, he looked him up and down before saying softly, "Good. You’re sturdy. Just a little thin. You’ll need to eat more from now on."

The boy remained silent, merely glancing up at him.

’This man is so tall. I guess I won’t be short when I grow up.’

The boy pulled his arms free and turned his head away.

Javier Sinclair asked, "What’s your name right now?"

The boy paused, surprised by the question. ’But there’s no reason not to tell him,’ he thought. ’Anyone could find out just by asking around.’

Though that’s what he thought, he answered casually, "I was using someone else’s name before—Nathan Jacobs. But then the real Nathan Jacobs returned, and he said hearing me use his name brought back bad memories. So I gave the name back."

He paused for a moment before continuing. "It’s not a big deal, though. I picked a new name for myself: Skyfire Dragon. From now on, my fate is my own."

It was strange, he had to admit.

The moment he decided to take control of his own destiny, that name had just popped into his head. Since he didn’t have a name, he had planned on using it going forward.

"Skyfire Dragon..."

Javier Sinclair murmured the name.

He nearly choked just hearing it.

It was easy to imagine his reaction; the corners of his mouth twitched uncontrollably. He could almost hear a flock of crows cawing overhead.

’After this wisp of my son’s Primordial Spirit fell into Elyndra, he’d forgotten everything. Yet he still remembered such a cringey, chuuni name. That could only mean one thing: back then, he must have read tons of those trashy novels and listened to all those stories my wife told about overpowered ’Skyfire Dragon’ protagonists.’

At that thought, he flicked the boy’s forehead lightly.

"Stay away from those trashy novels from now on."

’After all, our family are the villains. The ’Skyfire Dragon’ role is for protagonists; it doesn’t suit us.’

Still, the thought that his son had grown up in the Mortal Realm without even a proper name made Javier Sinclair’s heart ache.

Javier Sinclair looked at his son and said, "Forget ’Skyfire Dragon.’ The moment I hear that name, I’m hit with... an indescribable feeling. You have a name. It’s Aaron. A name that means peace and tranquility."

His gaze met his son’s as he spoke. "You take my surname, Sinclair. Your name is Aaron Sinclair."

The boy’s head snapped up, his eyes shining.

"Aaron Sinclair... That’s my name."

Javier Sinclair nodded, looking at his son. His mind drifted back to the past. Though it had been a long time, the memory was still fresh.

Back when Celeste was still pregnant, he had already picked out many names for their child. He and his wife had chosen the name Aaron together.

He continued, "Your mother and I chose a name for you before you were even born. Aaron is your name, so you have no need to use someone else’s."

He couldn’t resist adding a sharp-tongued comment. "And that... Nathan Jacobs name. Good thing it’s not yours. It just screams of an uncultured background. Anyone with an ounce of education wouldn’t choose such a stuffy, old-fashioned name."

The newly named Aaron Sinclair felt his own lips twitch.

’Why do I have a feeling my dad’s not wrong?’

’Nathan Jacobs... Such a loaded name. Just how desperately did the General’s Mansion want their son to bring them glory?’
