Chapter 13: Don’t Run Away, My Money!

  • Next Chapter

[HAHAHAHA WHY DOES SHE LOOK SO HAPPY?!]

[Because she just realized there are six walking bags of money in front of her.]

[Six × 150,000 = 900,000 CREDITS.]

[Thank you, Calculator Sentinel.]

[Summer’s not fighting monsters anymore. She’s hunting for her paycheck.]

Suddenly, the salamanders in front of her no longer looked like a threat. Instead, they looked like exotic animals with huge price tags hanging over their heads.

And thanks to Archer, killing them was much easier than she had expected.

The two of them had somehow fallen into a good rhythm without even needing to talk much. Archer would shoot first, slowing the salamanders down and forcing them out of their camouflage. Summer would then use those few precious seconds to aim directly at their hearts.

The salamanders were fast, and their ability to blend into their surroundings made them difficult to track. But no matter how good their camouflage was, it became useless the moment Archer put a bullet through them.

[But why isn’t Archer using his spatial ability? Wouldn’t that make this much easier?]

[Look around. There are tons of valuable Energy Cells here. Maybe he’s worried his ability might damage them.]

[Or maybe he’s not using it because he wants Summer to get all the kills!]

[Damn, this man is already falling head over heels for Miss Bunny.]

Summer happened to catch the last comment from the corner of her eye, and her face immediately twisted in disgust.

What kind of nonsense was that?

There was no way an SSS-Rank Sentinel like Archer was falling head over heels for her.

Summer was well aware of why Archer treated her so nicely. He had even been willing to form a team with an F-Rank Guide like her for one simple reason: she was useful to him.

Archer had never had a Guide with such high compatibility with him before. To someone like him, a Guide who was ninety-six percent compatible was probably worth more than a diamond.

That was all there was to it.

He needed her guiding, and she needed his strength.

Archer was using her for his own benefit, and Summer was doing exactly the same thing to him.

Fair and simple.

Some people might think a relationship like that was cold or not sincere, but Summer actually preferred it this way.

At least they both knew what they wanted from each other.

That was much better than smiling sweetly and pretending to like each other while secretly wanting something in return.

[You killed ×1 S-Rank Mutated Creature: 150,000 Credits]

Summer smiled in satisfaction after successfully killing another one, but she didn’t let her guard down because another salamander tried to crawl behind a row of shelves, its skin already changing to match the dark metal around it.

Bang!

Archer’s bullet tore through its hind leg, breaking its camouflage and forcing it back into view.

"There you are," Summer murmured.

Bang!

[You killed ×1 S-Rank Mutated Creature: 150,000 Credits]

The notifications kept appearing one after another, and every time one popped up, Summer became a little happier.

[You killed ×1 S-Rank Mutated Creature: 150,000 Credits]

[You killed ×1 S-Rank Mutated Creature: 150,000 Credits]

Until finally, only one salamander remained.

Unlike the others, this one seemed to have realized that attacking them was a terrible idea, so it turned around and ran.

[HAHAHAHA IT’S RUNNING AWAY!]

[Even an S-Rank mutated creature knows when it’s about to die.]

[SUMMER! YOUR 150,000 CREDITS IS ESCAPING!]

"What? No! Don’t run away!" Summer shouted.

The salamander tried to camouflage itself and crawl toward the exit door, but Archer had already shot its tail and two of its legs, making it difficult for the creature to camouflage itself properly.

The moment Archer shot all of its legs, causing it to fall onto the floor, Summer immediately aimed at its heart and fired.

[You killed ×1 S-Rank Mutated Creature: 150,000 Credits]

Summer stared at the message for a moment. Then, she looked around the basement and realized that there was nothing left for her to kill.

Seven giant salamanders had attacked this place and killed all the workers at the power plant, and now all seven monsters were finally dead.

But more importantly, all of them had given her so many credits that she couldn’t stop herself from grinning from ear to ear.

She didn’t even know what kinds of things she could buy with those credits, but if they worked the same way as money in her old world, then anything was possible.

She quickly hooked her Poison Gun back onto her waist before climbing down from the equipment rack. When she was close enough to the floor, she simply jumped the rest of the way down.

Her boots hit the concrete with a soft thud. Not long after that, she opened her mouth. "Archer."

He immediately turned toward her when he heard his name being called.

Summer pointed at the dead salamanders around them and said, "We can still split the credits fifty-fifty."

Archer raised an eyebrow because he hadn’t really thought much about it, but he continued listening to her explanation.

"You said earlier that if we both had to work together to kill something, we’d split the reward." Summer gestured between the two of them. "And I definitely couldn’t have killed these things that easily without you."

Technically, every kill notification had gone to her because she had landed the final shots, but Summer was not shameless enough to pretend Archer had done nothing.

He had forced the salamanders out of their camouflage, stopped them whenever they tried to attack her, and given her enough time to aim for their hearts.

Without him, she probably would have spent most of the fight running around trying not to become salamander food.

So fifty-fifty seemed fair.

Archer, however, shook his head. "Ten percent is fine."

Summer stared at him and asked in confusion, "What?"

"Ten percent," Archer repeated. "You can give me ten percent. Those salamanders were probably creatures that had only recently evolved into S-Rank, so they weren’t that difficult to fight."

But whether they were difficult to fight or not, wasn’t it normal for people to still want the credits?!

[Archer, are you rich or stupid?]

[He gave her five million credits like it was pocket change. I think we already know the answer.]

[Rich. The answer is disgustingly rich.]

Summer was about to say something, but Archer had already walked toward the shelves where the Energy Cells were stored.

The clear door had already been broken during their fight, so he didn’t even need to force it open anymore.

"I don’t have all day. Come here and help me out," Archer said to Summer. "The faster we collect these Energy Cells, the faster we can get out of here."
