Chapter 981: Chapter 1198: Interesting Fellow

Deadwood Haunt—this was the eighth location Julian had arrived at within the Cobalt Coastlands. As the name suggested, it was a vast forest.

Moreover, all the trees here were of unknown species.

For a trainer, if they wanted to survive better in the wild or in secret realms, having a broad knowledge base was extremely important.

The most commonly required knowledge was botany, since the most frequent sights in the wild and secret realms were various green plants and berry trees.

If you didn't have sufficient botanical knowledge, you might encounter priceless trees or berries and not even recognize them—treating them as ordinary and simply passing them by. In the end, the one who lost out would be yourself.

Julian used his Probing Eyes to take a look—all these trees were called 'Singing Wind Trees.'

"No wonder it's called Deadwood Haunt," Julian muttered, silently applauding his own cleverness.

The trunks of these trees had countless pinhole-sized hollows running through them. When the wind passed through these holes, it produced a low, howling whoosh sound.

With tens of thousands of trees producing this sound together, it could easily frighten someone who was timid.

Especially at night, when the wind picked up, the sound was not only eerie but also deafening.

Fortunately, at night, Julian used his psychic powers to block out the surrounding noise; otherwise, he wouldn't have gotten a wink of sleep.

The next morning, Julian was roused from bed by Magearna's insistent urging.

"Magearna, you're becoming more and more like Slowking."

Julian reluctantly got out of bed.

"Mage~"

Magearna happily squinted its eyes. Julian hadn't meant it as a compliment, but in Magearna's view, becoming more and more like its teaher was high praise.

"Slow~"

Seeing Julian come out, Slowking placed a cup of MooMoo Milk in front of him and quickly brought over breakfast.

Breakfast consisted of seafood congee paired with multi-layered pancake.

Biting into the pancake, Julian suddenly said, "Magearna, you made these, didn't you?"

"Mage…"

Magearna nodded, looking a bit nervous, afraid that Julian might not like the taste.

"Don't be nervous. They're delicious. You've already reached about ninety percent of Slowking's skill," Julian said with a smile.

His palate had long since been spoiled by Slowking and Love. Whenever he ate food they prepared, the moment the flavor felt even slightly off, he knew it hadn't been made by them.

Take this multi-layered pancake, for instance. Although the taste was very good, overall, it was still missing something. Julian couldn't quite put it into words, but his tongue could tell the difference.

With a tongue like his, he could easily make a living as a professional food critic.

"Mage~"

Magearna immediately breathed a sigh of relief, and at the same time, a wave of joyful aura emanated from its body.

After all, the pancake had only been served after being taste-tested by Slowking. So if the flavor truly hadn't met the standard, it wouldn't have been brought to the table in the first place.

"Looks like our family is about to welcome a third housekeeper," Julian said teasingly, looking at Magearna. "I wonder if Magearna will end up like Slowking and Love, managing us like we're a bunch of kids."

The surrounding Pokémon burst into friendly laughter.

"Mage~"

Magearna's face immediately flushed red. Hearing Julian's teasing and the others' laughter, it froze in place, not knowing what to do.

"Slow!"

Slowking-sensei, who finally couldn't bear to watch any longer, shot a glare at Julian and the others, and the laughter ceased at once.

"Mage~"

Magearna looked at its teacher with pure admiration. 'When will I have that kind of ability?'

Just a single glance could silence Metagross and the others, not to mention their own trainer.

If there was such a thing as a "Face-Face No Mi" in this world, Slowking would absolutely be its rightful owner. Everyone had to give Red-haired Slowking face.

"Magearna, are there more pancakes?" Julian asked.

The two little ones had eaten too quickly—he had barely eaten a few pieces before they were all gone.

"Mage~"

Magearna nodded. Seeing how popular its pancake was, it promptly brought over a fresh batch. Knowing the appetites of Julian and the two little ones, it had made quite a generous amount.

Even if there were leftovers, it wouldn't matter—they could just store them in Gengar's belly.

Gengar: 'My belly is not a garbage disposal.'

"Alright, let's go see if this place has any Ultimate treasures."

After finishing breakfast, and with Slowking having cleaned up the tableware, Julian stood up and hopped onto Moltres.

As for why he wasn't riding Salamence... well, the reason should be obvious.

On a side note, the tableware and kitchen utensils Slowking used were all custom-made by master craftsmen, and it had been using this same set all along, so it treasured them greatly.

Even the usually carefree Gengar was extremely careful when storing them in its belly, afraid of breaking even a single plate—otherwise, it would end up getting "broken" itself by Slowking.

Deadwood Haunt was enormous. Even riding on Moltres, it took Julian four full days to explore it completely. The area was so large it was almost comparable to one-third of Drakoria.

And the number of Pokémon living within was naturally staggering—easily in the hundred millions—with Grass-, Bug-, and Poison-types making up the majority.

He didn't find any Ultimate treasures, but he did find three sub-Ultimate ones—and all of them were Rock-type. So Julian gave all three to Tyranitar.

With Tyranitar's absorption speed, combined with these three sub-Ultimate treasures, it should reach the peak of Pseudo-Champion-level within a month. At that point, Julian could use the remaining Rare Candy to help it break through.

After all, Tyranitar still had its "wife" waiting for it in this secret realm. Once it broke through to the Champion-level, Julian planned to take it to reunite with her.

"Tres~"

Julian, who had been daydreaming on Moltres's back, snapped out of it when Moltres suddenly let out a sharp cry.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

Moltres: "There's an interesting fellow down below."

'Down below?'

Julian looked down but couldn't see anything. After all, his eyesight was nowhere near as sharp as Moltres's.

Understanding this, Moltres suppressed its presence and descended to a lower altitude. Only then did Julian spot the "interesting fellow" Moltres had mentioned.

"Zeraora?"

Julian looked slightly surprised at the yellow Pokémon rapidly darting through the forest below.

Zeraora resembled a bipedal feline. It had blue paw pads on its hands, and its body was marked with blue and black lightning-like patterns.

The blue was primarily concentrated on its upper body, while its fur was mostly yellow and black. The fur on its lower legs, lower body, upper arms, and face was thinner and darker, while the rest was thicker and more yellow.

A jagged black stripe ran down each of its thigh, with two more on its forearms. A small tuft of light blue fur sat on its chest, with a longer tuft on its forehead. And on each cheek, there was a blue, lightning-shaped whisker.

A long, ponytail-like mane of fur extended from between its shoulder blades, making its running figure appear even more sleek and ethereal as it moved.

[T/N: The author seems to like Zeraora a lot.]
