Chapter 956: Chapter 1173: Coach
Julian didn't know if the System was glitching or had been infected by a virus, but it actually went out of its way to assign a rare Temporary Mission for this girl.
"I can do it, but—"
Since the Temporary Mission had already been issued, Julian naturally had no reason to refuse. Plus, the reward included Mewtwo Fragments. He currently had 88, and with these 5 added, that would make 93.
He was getting closer and closer to summoning Mewtwo.
"But what?"
Seeing Julian suddenly stop halfway through his sentence, the girl asked with some confusion.
"But—"
Julian looked her up and down. She was indeed quite good-looking.
Noticing his gaze, the girl covered her chest and instinctively took a few steps back, saying warily "Don't even think about it. I admit you're handsome and have charm, but I'm not that kind of girl."
"At the very least, we'd have to go on a date first, and only after we're official—but even then, just holding hands, and at most, maybe a peck on the lips—"
Though she looked wary, she also felt a little flutter inside. 'So you're not completely indifferent after all.'
"Don't flatter yourself. I like girls with big chests—you don't qualify."
Julian shook his head in disdain. "And you don't need to pay me. Just make sure you win the League."
"Otherwise, if people find out that you were trained by me for even a few days and couldn't even win a Provincial League title, that'd really be embarrassing for me."
Hearing Julian's words, the girl immediately became displeased.
Her chest might not compare to those 'milk cows,' but it wasn't that bad either.
"Huh, you make it sound like you're a big deal, but I secretly took a photo of you just now and ran a recognition check—you're not even an Elite trainer. At most, you might just be a pseudo–Elite."
The girl curled her lips, convinced that Julian was just bragging.
Elite-level trainers all had relevant information listed on the Trainers Association's official website.
Of course, it wasn't impossible that some sneaky individuals, after breaking through to the Elite tier, didn't go to the Trainers Association to update their information.
But there was no real penalty for doing that.
It was just that you would miss out on rewards, benefits, and other resources from the Trainers' Association.
So choosing to stay under the radar would come with significant losses.
Moreover, once your strength was exposed and the Trainers' Association found out, they would immediately update your information—and by then, you wouldn't be able to claim those rewards, making it completely not worth it.
So most trainers, after breaking through to the Elite tier, would go to the Trainers' Association at the first opportunity.
Not to mention anything else—once you became an Elite trainer, your status would undergo a qualitative leap.
And if your strength was decent and you were willing to serve as an official Elite-level trainer, you might even qualify to become the President of a city's Trainers' Association.
Every city in the country had a Trainers' Association, and its President had to be an Elite-level trainer, supported by two vice presidents at the pseudo–Elite level.
"Oh? Then do you still want me to train you?" Julian said indifferently.
"Of course I do."
Even if this man was only a pseudo-Elite, he had graduated from the Special Recruitment Class of Imperial University. His strength was probably already approaching the peak of the pseudo-Elite tier.
"Let's go."
Julian glanced at her—at least she had good judgment.
"Where to?" the girl asked curiously.
"To a room," Julian said.
"What? You pervert!"
The girl shrieked.
"Of course, to a battle arena. Do you really think I'm interested in you?" Julian said irritably.
"Hmph."
The girl pouted and quickly followed behind Julian.
"By the way, I still don't know your name, Coach. My name is Gemma."
"You'll only be qualified to know my name after you win the League."
Hearing that, Gemma felt that this guy was really full of himself, but she didn't argue. Instead, she asked curiously, "Then what should I call you?"
"Coach is fine," Julian said.
After that, the two kept walking along the road. Gemma kept talking to Julian, while he only responded occasionally.
"Coach, since you graduated from Imperial University's Special Recruitment Class, have you ever met Champion Walker?"
"No. By the time I graduated, Champion Walker had already been out of university for several years, and he doesn't come back to campus often," Julian said.
After graduating, he indeed rarely went back. Why would he? Besides showing off, what else was there to do?
"Here will do."
Julian stopped at an outdoor battle arena.
Outdoor battle arenas were generally equipped with protective barriers, though they wasn't very strong. Most were at the Advanced-level, with a few at the pseudo–Elite level.
As for Elite-level barriers, only large-scale battle arenas or major events would have them.
After paying a venue fee of 100,000, they activated an Advanced-level barrier—but it would only last for twenty minutes. If they wanted to extend the time, they would have to pay more.
This alone showed just how money-burning the profession of a Trainer was—the initial investment was absolutely enormous.
"Release your Steelix," Julian said.
"Mm."
The next second, Gemma released her Steelix.
A level 60, peak Advanced-level Steelix—and its potential was actually Cyan-grade.
Julian glanced at Gemma with a bit of surprise. This girl's background probably wasn't ordinary.
Gemma shot Julian a smug look, then suddenly remembered something and looked at her Steelix with concern.
"Coach, be careful—my Steelix has a really bad temper," Gemma hurriedly warned.
Her Steelix was her starter Pokémon. Aside from herself, no one else could even touch it, let alone approach it without it getting aggressive.
Sometimes when its temper flared up, it would even go against her.
Seeing Julian walk toward Steelix without even having a Pokémon by his side, Gemma immediately panicked.
She was about to recall Steelix when she heard Julian say, "It's fine."
His voice was extremely confident. Half-believing, Gemma didn't recall Steelix, but she stayed ready—if anything went wrong, she would immediately take it back.
Julian had already walked up to Steelix.
"Decently raised."
"Lower your head—let me take a look."
Hearing that, Steelix immediately lowered its head.
Seeing this, Gemma's mouth fell open in shock.
Since when had her Steelix become so obedient? Had it been possessed by a Skitty or something?
Julian went through the motions of checking Steelix's teeth and other parts of its body.
"How is it?" Gemma asked.
Julian's actions had successfully impressed her.
Mainly because Steelix was being far too well-behaved, making Gemma feel that choosing Julian as her coach was absolutely the right decision.
"No physical issues, but there's some energy buildup inside its body."
The Probing Eyes had already fed Steelix's data to Julian—its condition was clear at a glance.
"It ate some kind of treasure, didn't it?" Julian asked.
Gemma nodded excitedly. "Yes! Half a year ago, in a secret realm, Steelix found some kind of treasure underground and swallowed it directly. I only found out about it afterward."
