Chapter 407: Next Stop, Sootopolis Gym
Mossdeep City Pokémon Center.
May recalled Ash’s process of challenging the Gym and remarked, "The coordination between the siblings, Nan and Feng, doesn’t seem as strong as I imagined."
"Judging solely from their performance today, there are indeed issues with their coordination, but May, you shouldn’t let your guard down," Ash laughed.
May chuckled, "I won’t. I plan to have Tyranitar and Aggron battle tomorrow."
"Tyranitar and Aggron? That’s certainly a good choice. Both have an advantage in terms of type," Brock praised.
"Exactly!"
May was determined to win the Mossdeep City Gym challenge.
However, at this very moment, Nan and Feng were being lectured and criticized by their father because of their abysmal performance today.
The next day.
Accompanied by Ash’s group, May stood on the Mossdeep City Gym battlefield, full of fighting spirit.
And the two Gym Leaders, Nan and Feng, stood opposite May.
The young female referee finished reading the Gym battle rules as usual, and both sides released their Pokemon almost simultaneously.
Feng looked at the two behemoths May released in disbelief, "It’s actually Tyranitar and Aggron?"
"Feng, this opponent is very tricky," Nan said calmly.
Feng nodded, "Yeah."
"Tyranitar, use Sandstorm! Aggron, use Metal Sound!" May initiated the attack.
Tyranitar, known as the desert tyrant, controlled the Sandstorm, which enveloped them like a city wall, while Aggron focused on using Metal Sound.
The piercing sound echoed through the battlefield. Their opponents, Solrock and Lunatone, felt a wave of discomfort as their Special Defense was significantly lowered.
"Solrock, use Solar Beam to break through the Sandstorm!"
"Lunatone, use Moonblast the moment the Sandstorm is broken!"
The horn on Solrock’s head lit up with a white light, and after accumulating solar energy for two and a half seconds, it fired a dazzling white beam that struck the Sandstorm wall.
The Sandstorm wall was hit by the Solar Beam, creating a brief opening, and Lunatone seized the opportunity to launch Moonblast.
However, the moment its attack came through, Aggron and Tyranitar simultaneously used Rock Slide, and two huge rocks flew straight out.
This was a tactical strategy May had devised herself: using the Sandstorm for cover and counterattacking while the opponent was in a state of stiffness after using a move.
"Lunatone, use Reflect!" Nan shouted loudly.
At the critical moment, Lunatone set up a Reflect in front of Solrock.
But the force of the two giant rocks couldn’t be blocked by a single Reflect. Lunatone only held on for a few seconds before the Reflect was pierced, and the giant rocks pinned them both underneath.
Fortunately, May didn’t let Tyranitar and the others use their full power. With the reduction from Reflect, the force of the Rock Slide only left them stunned, not severely injured.
Feng hurriedly ordered, "Solrock, use Psybeam!"
Solrock used Psybeam to clear the rocks that were pinning them down.
Ash laughed, "It seems that after yesterday’s battle, Nan and Feng have grown, and their coordination is much better than yesterday."
"It’s probably because their performance yesterday was so poor that they got scolded by their father," Brock speculated.
"That’s possible, but as long as May can maintain this rhythm in this battle, winning is only a matter of time."
With a level advantage, a type advantage, and control of the battle’s rhythm, Ash really couldn’t imagine how May could lose.
May pressed her advantage, "Tyranitar, use Dark Pulse! Aggron, use Blizzard!"
"Solrock, use Light Screen!"
"Lunatone, use Psybeam!"
Facing Tyranitar’s Dark Pulse and Aggron’s Blizzard, Solrock surprisingly blocked in front of Lunatone, setting up a Light Screen to defend, while Lunatone released a Psybeam at Aggron, intending to cut off the Blizzard Aggron was creating at the source.
However, due to the level difference, Solrock’s Light Screen only held for a few seconds before being broken through by the Dark Pulse.
Boom!
Solrock was blown away by the Dark Pulse and crashed into a small planetoid.
"Solrock!" Feng shouted anxiously.
However, Lunatone’s attack did have an effect; Aggron’s Blizzard was forced to stop.
Solrock fell to the ground, its eyes turning into swirls.
After counting to five silently, the young female referee raised her flag and announced, "Solrock is unable to battle!"
"Great, one down!" May was ecstatic, then continued to order, "Aggron, use Iron Tail."
"May, I won’t give up easily! Lunatone, use Hypnosis!" Nan shouted loudly.
Aggron was very fast; as soon as the Hypnosis wave from Lunatone was released, the Iron Tail struck its face.
The heavy Iron Tail slammed onto Lunatone’s face, instantly knocking Lunatone to the ground.
And because Aggron had been hit by the Hypnosis, it proceeded to fall asleep immediately.
Fortunately, Tyranitar, not far away, was not affected.
The young female referee checked Lunatone’s status and immediately announced, "Lunatone is unable to battle. The Gym Leaders’ two Pokemon are unable to battle, so the winner of this match is May from Petalburg City!"
"I won! Yay!"
May jumped up and down in place excitedly.
"May, your Pokemon are very strong, and your coordination is very good. This is the proof of our Mossdeep City Gym, the Mind Badge!"
As soon as Nan finished speaking, Feng opened the box he was holding.
"Thank you!"
After May took the badge, she solemnly put it into her badge case.
Ash walked over and praised, "Nan, Feng, the coordination between you two has really improved a lot!"
"This is all thanks to you, Ash. If it weren’t for yesterday’s battle, we might not have made such great progress," Feng said.
"That’s right, Ash, if it weren’t for..."
Nan also chimed in.
After a simple farewell, Ash’s group left the Mossdeep City Gym, preparing to move towards the next destination.
Ash asked Brock, "Brock, which city is the next Gym in?"
"Let me see..." Brock took out his Pokemon Navigator and searched for two and a half minutes, "Got it, the closest Gym to us is the Sootopolis Gym in Sootopolis City."
"Sootopolis Gym?"
May had a strange sense of familiarity with this place name, as if she had seen it somewhere before.
After some recollection, she took out a magazine, glanced at it, and asked, "Brock, is the Gym Leader of the Sootopolis Gym a person named Wallace?"
"It’s him. Why?" Brock looked at May with confusion.
