Chapter 96: God Does Not Understand Love, Yet Chooses to Love, Thus Inviting Disaster

  • Next Chapter

Audrey was shocked that Silver King Lycan was a woman, while Blaze was stunned by how closely Lai Kaion’s appearance resembled Audrey’s.

No, considering the generation gap, it should be that Audrey resembled the Belcimann Brothers, and the Belcimann Brothers resembled Lai Kaion.

"What are you two so surprised about? Sons inherit their mothers’ looks, and daughters inherit their fathers’. It’s basic biology."

Greenland appeared entirely unbothered. She was surprisingly well-behaved, unlike the other Foreigners she had described who scurried about like cockroaches.

The reason for this was likely the incredibly dense Holy Aura surrounding Lai Kaion’s body. It was so potent that if Greenland even approached, she would suffer rapid health loss, as if struck by an ultimate Purification beam.

"Oh, this cursed body of mine!"

Greenland slumped against the wall, utterly crestfallen as she muttered her resentful complaints.

Blaze and Audrey glanced back at her before tacitly ignoring her dramatic display, returning their focus to Lai Kaion.

"Is she still alive?" Audrey lowered her voice, terrified of waking the greatest Queen in Arcadia’s history, who looked as though she was merely asleep.

"These are her remains. She has fallen into eternal slumber, just as the legends say."

Blaze couldn’t bear to use the word "corpse"; it felt like a desecration.

[The Eternally Slumbering Silver King Lycan]

[Her heart is Broken, her soul has vanished. Only that noble blood sustains her last remaining treasure, waiting, waiting...]

These were cold, detached words meant to describe an item. The absence of a Durability stat next to her name was likely the system’s final mercy toward this Silver King.

Blaze felt the restlessness of the Silver Blood within him, urging him to get closer to Lai Kaion. Instead, he took a step back and gave Audrey a gentle nudge forward.

Audrey shot Blaze a pleading look; she wanted him to go with her.

But Blaze shook his head. There were some things he simply couldn’t help with. Audrey had to face this herself and shoulder the history of Arcadia.

Audrey Arcadia had two great fathers, so she could definitely do this.

Blaze raised both hands to his chest and gave her two thumbs up.

"You’ve got this!"

Audrey rolled her eyes in exasperation, but thanks to his antics, she felt significantly more at ease.

Audrey straightened her appearance and stepped onto the stairs with solemn reverence. She walked step by step toward the beautiful Silver King and dropped to one knee before the primordial ruler.

She didn’t know what she was supposed to do, but the Silver Blood within her urged her to touch Lai Kaion’s body. Reaching out, she cradled Lai Kaion’s hands in her own.

These hands weren’t mighty or imposing like the legends claimed. Instead, they were incredibly soft, without a single callus.

The moment Lai Kaion’s fingertips brushed against Audrey’s palms, a faint glow emanated from between them.

The light was not blinding, but it felt ancient and enduring.

The light, Piercing through the stone walls, continued its Diffusion across the entirety of Lai Kaion City, not stopping until it covered the whole Arcadia Territory.

It looked like a beautiful aurora, a play of light and Shadow visible only to those possessing Silver Blood.

A blurry illusion formed within the aurora in the sky. It was a beautiful Silver Werewolf.

She worshipped the Moon God, and blood like Silver flowed through her veins.

She ran beneath the moonlight, driving away rot and death.

She was incomparably powerful, and thus incomparably full of Kindness.

She was eternal and holy, and therefore could not feel the passage of time.

The concept of time only entered her mind because a very important event had occurred.

She saw the moon shed tears—or more accurately, weep bitterly. Naturally, she chased after one of those drops, pursuing it relentlessly.

During this pursuit, the Earth was engulfed in seas of Flame and submerged by oceans. At one point, the air was entirely filled with toxic gas, but she remained completely unaffected. She kept chasing it until she arrived at a barren land.

She tilted her head, wondering why the Tears of the Moon had taken the form of a massive boulder.

But this did not stop her from feeling sorrow over the moon shedding its tears. Day and night, she sang atop the giant rock, comforting the great moon.

Time seemed to vanish from her mind once more. The stars shifted in the sky; new Life emerged on the barren Earth, only to face destruction once again.

That was until one day, she caught a scent. It was unmistakably the essence of [Delicious].

She felt an appetite, something that shouldn’t have existed, for she had absolutely no need to eat.

Subconsciously, she crawled on the ground, following the scent until she found a Wild Beast using Flame.

That Wild Beast was a Human, and he called himself Lai Kaion.

From that day onward, her time began to flow.

From their initial mutual fright, she and Lai Kaion went on to hunt together, eventually making it a habit to sleep side by side beneath the moon.

She knew Lai Kaion wanted to cultivate this desolate land, so she joined him in his efforts.

She effortlessly overturned the soil to uncover the fertile Earth beneath. When that failed, she simply twisted off the heads of Monsters and used their flesh and blood to nourish the ground.

There were occasional mistakes, though. The flesh of the Monsters sometimes caused the growing crops to turn into Monsters themselves.

The number of Humans around her grew, and the distance between her and Lai Kaion shrank. However, as a Hero, Lai Kaion also began attracting more and more women to his side.

Although Lai Kaion never left her side, a strange feeling sprouted in her heart.

She knew what it was called: inferiority and Envy.

She was oblivious to her own greatness and nobility; she only knew that in her current form, she couldn’t do for Lai Kaion what Human women could.

She wanted love.

She returned to the Tears of the Moon. Looking up at the moon, she used her song to convey her pain and the nameless emotions swirling in her heart.

The moon ached for her suffering and granted this devout believer everything it could possibly give.

The moon’s face, the moon’s skin, the moon’s body.

She became the Wild Beast known as a Human.

Neither the moon nor she knew that a believer possessing the appearance of a God was the ultimate blasphemy.

Ignorant of this, she was incredibly happy. She arrived at the doorstep of Lai Kaion’s home.

This small yet warm space could finally accommodate her.

When Lai Kaion opened the door and she revealed her identity, all she saw in his eyes was self-reproach.

Lai Kaion had never held any prejudice against her appearance; their hearts had been united long ago.

But she was so overjoyed that she forgot everything else.

The moon bathed them in its light and bestowed its Blessing.

It was a Blessing that would cause her children to also transform into Wild Beasts, born in the form of Humans.

She and Lai Kaion blissfully cradled their newborn twins—healthy Human babies.

The story that followed only proved one thing: a so-called tragedy is simply happiness being utterly Broken.

Blaze looked down at the beautiful woman.

It was likely that the Human Lai Kaion’s lifespan quickly reached its end, while the Silver Werewolf continued to live on using Lai Kaion’s name.

The Silver Werewolf and the Hero Lai Kaion—the union of these two existences was Silver King Lycan.

"Doesn’t this mean there’s no solution at all? Neither of them did anything wrong!" Greenland clenched her fists, overwhelmed by a suffocating sense of despair.

"Huh? Isn’t the problem already solved?" Blaze paused, unable to understand why Greenland looked so upset.

"How is it solved?! This situation is an unsolvable dilemma!"

"No... I have a pretty simple mind, so..." Blaze tapped his faceplate and voiced his thoughts.

"Since losing one’s purity causes a transformation into a Wild Beast, wouldn’t it be fine to just lose that purity while in Werewolf form? Or just stay in Werewolf form after losing it? That way, the Curse would transform them from Werewolves into the Wild Beasts known as Humans."

The future of Arcadia would be a nation entirely made up of Werewolves. This was exactly why Belcimann was so determined to pull Foreigners into his faction.
