Chapter 1528: Chapter 498: Spider

To be safe, Brother Ni and Ruzuo didn’t tell Kles about the problem with Jackal, and kept observing this "Miss New Meow Meow" to see what tricks she was trying to pull.

After waiting for nearly an hour, Jackal finally spoke again in the squad channel.

[Jackal: All done, meow. I got a few bishop identities who aren’t on the island. You can go up now.]

[Brother Ni: Which denomination? I don’t wanna be a lama, those robes are ugly as hell.]

[Li De: That’s about enough...]

For fuck’s sake, isn’t it good enough that we got anything at all? Now he’s picking and choosing—does he have any idea how hard it used to be for us to get a couple of legal identities when we did missions before?

People with full bellies never know how hungry people feel.

[Jackal: Still Scientology IDs, meow. From the layout it looks like they’re on a rotation system. If you’re just passing inspections and not actually doing any work, there shouldn’t be a problem, meow.]

Li De felt something was off. Getting such high-level data this easily really didn’t match the previously tight defenses on Jekyll Island, and by now they should already be conducting a manhunt outside, tightening up inspections instead of loosening them.

[Li De: Kles and I can’t get away right now. You two go first.]

So he decided to let Brother Ni and Ruzuo go test the waters.

When you already know the other side is impersonating someone, a normal person might worry it’s a trap or bait or something, but for players, who cares what kind of trap it is—they’ll stick their necks out and charge in anyway.

Brother Ni and Ruzuo didn’t even hesitate before striding into the ascending elevator. Sure enough, with their new identities, a soft, feminine Angel avatar popped up on the elevator panel to ask:

[Respected Bishop Kess Warren and Bishop Tanders, which floor would you like to enter?]

Brother Ni glanced at Ruzuo, raising an eyebrow.

"Sixth floor."

[Understood.]

The first two floors they’d taken the stairs, and only from the third floor up did elevators exist. The floors you could access after entering the elevator depended on your identity, the hierarchy strictly enforced.

The sixth floor was just as spacious, and all the facilities were built around the central quantum computer. No matter which direction you stood in, you could see that massive, beautiful pillar of flowing, crystalline light.

There were none of the sinister rituals or human-made Magic Artifacts from the lower floors. Instead, white marble Angel statues were scattered everywhere. Some stood, some knelt, their expressions devout. Every inch of muscle on their bodies was clearly defined, with gold patterns inlaid on their foreheads and wings. They looked almost alive—obviously the work of a master sculptor.

The shimmering light from the crystal pillar spilled over the Angel statues, making them seem as if they had come to life, immersed in prayer. An incomprehensible language echoed through the floor, sung in a tone that sounded holy and pure.

If the lower floors were Hell, then this place looked like Heaven.

But this Heaven was built on a foundation of Hell. The moment that thought surfaced, whatever slight goodwill they felt vanished.

As for what exactly these Angels were supposed to represent, they had no idea. New Dynasty Elegance seemed busy with something else and had no time to worry about this side.

"It’s so quiet here."

Ruzuo cautiously scanned the surroundings. There were statues everywhere, yet not a single person in sight.

"Maybe they’re all on summer vacation?"

"Vacation my ass."

Brother Ni couldn’t even be bothered to roast him properly.

The two of them didn’t care whether there were cameras or not anymore, and started doing a carpet search of the entire sixth floor.

Since the mountain was shaped like a pyramid, the sixth floor up here wasn’t very large—probably only a few thousand square meters—but it was packed with things.

There was a musical fountain crowned by an Angel in the center, a cloister flanked by stoic knights standing guard, and even a tiny chapel for worship—small yet fully equipped.

The area might not be as big as those famous cathedrals in the outside world, but the internal facilities were distilled down to pure essence. In terms of refinement and luxury, it might even surpass them.

They had even carved out a garden inside this chapel. The garden’s temperature and humidity were kept constant, with the light precisely controlled to just the right level, shining down from above. The Tyndall effect formed by the light passing through the hazy dust made the beams look almost solid, like the guiding rays descending from the Celestial Kingdom.

Under that light, purple irises were in full bloom.

But the garden itself wasn’t what shocked Brother Ni and Ruzuo. What truly surprised them was that there was actually someone in the garden.

A woman—a woman with short, fiery red hair. She looked in her twenties, with a pretty, delicate doll-like face, very Lolita-esque, dressed in casual clothes that clashed completely with the chapel’s style.

They definitely weren’t going to assume she was some bishop’s kept plaything. On the contrary, Brother Ni’s hand had already flicked out his Mantis Blade, ready to lunge and hack this woman to death at any moment.

Because she was squatting on the ground, using her fingers to play with a black cat trapped in a maze.

But Ruzuo grabbed Brother Ni and pointed at the ground beneath the woman’s feet—there was no shadow there.

Then Ruzuo sneered and said,

"So even a drifting Artificial Intelligence knows how to play ghost. I thought you guys were all about science."

The woman’s hand, which had been teasing the cat, paused, then quickly withdrew. She stood up and looked at Ruzuo and Brother Ni, her bright eyes filled with interest.

"You two... are more interesting than I expected."

"Is that your last line?"

Brother Ni shifted his gaze to the central computer, estimating whether his single-molecule Mantis Blade could breach its defenses. With precision instruments this advanced, knocking out a single component could easily trigger a chain reaction.
