Pioneer Lord: I Have Conquering System
Chapter 551: Trial World, Here I Come
To be honest, with his current Power, entering a Magicless World would be a complete steamroll.
“The Teleportation Array hasn’t been used for a long time. It needs a sufficient supply of Magic Power, so you may have to wait a while.” Fatir didn’t elaborate, instead saying, “During this time, Levi, you can go and prepare.”
“You can bring anything—items, food. After all, no one knows what the situation is on the other side.”
“No problem.” Levi nodded. In reality, he had already prepared everything he could think of that might be useful and stored it in his system’s inventory.
“But can I bring someone with me?” Levi handed a piece of cake to Little Buji on his shoulder. It was obvious who he was talking about.
He originally hadn’t wanted to bring the little one, but she had become noticeably clingier ever since she learned to talk. She had to be by his side every day, to the point where it was even interfering with his wonderful life with Tina and Heather.
He just couldn’t say no to her this time, so he brought her along.
“You can. The Teleportation Array has no rule stating that only one person can be transported, only that those below Legendary rank can enter the New World.” Fatir glanced at the tiny person on Levi’s shoulder and paid her no further mind. A Forest Elf. Although such Elves were now extremely rare in this world, they hadn’t disappeared completely.
Levi nodded and lowered his head, focusing on eating the unique food of the church.
Under the dumbfounded gazes of the Saint Light Church’s Clergy, the feasting Barbarians gave them a clear lesson in what it meant to be a glutton.
Fortunately, however, no one expressed any disgust. The Clergy of the Holy Light Church were, if nothing else, all people of excellent character. They even asked the Barbarians with concern if they had eaten their fill, which in turn made the big eaters feel a bit embarrassed.
…
The so-called wait didn’t last long. Early the next morning, Levi was still asleep and dreaming of holding a beauty in each arm. He jolted awake the moment he saw a kneeling woman lift her head to reveal the Queen’s unforgettably beautiful face, only to realize that a faint knock had sounded at his door.
After tidying himself up a bit, he opened the door.
“Fatir, do you always get up this early?”
Looking at the dim morning light, where the buildings were still just indistinct shadows, the Lord’s eyes were full of resentment.
He’d finally been having a rare, good dream, and it had been interrupted just like that.
Buji, sitting on his head, was yawning uncontrollably, rubbing her eyes with her two small hands, but she just couldn’t seem to open them.
“Levi, sleeping early and rising early is a virtue.” A small smile touched the corner of Fatir’s lips. She then stood up and walked toward a tall building in the distance. “The Teleportation Array is ready. We can use it now.”
Levi finally perked up at this and followed her. The two of them walked into a large, semi-circular hall.
The building was magnificent. Its dome was over twelve meters high, and carved upon it was the exquisite story of “The Saint Who Sacrificed His Flesh.” Looking up, one couldn’t help but marvel at the Saint’s noble character.
Many Holy Light Mages had already gathered in the hall. They were methodically tinkering with the floor—its surface was covered in grooves and lines, all converging to form an intricate and complex starburst pattern.
“The Teleportation Array is underneath this hall. Everyone is checking it for problems, since it hasn’t been used for several thousand years,” Fatir explained. She then added, “Levi, please wait a moment. I need to go prepare something first.”
With that, she left. The Lord decided to wander around the hall with Little Buji.
He could feel an unimaginably abundant Magic Power contained beneath his feet. Only this level of Magic Power could support an inter-world teleportation.
Bored and wanting to find someone to chat with to kill time, he was suddenly interrupted from his thoughts.
“Sir, excuse me, could you please move? A Magic Power node under your feet seems to be slightly blocked. I need to inspect it,” a middle-aged Mage, who had followed the patterns on the floor to get there, said apologetically.
“Ah… oh, oh.” The Lord quickly moved out of the way with Little Buji, but soon someone else approached him with an apologetic expression.
Looking at the busy crowd and then at his own idle self, Levi suddenly felt a bit in the way. He considerately went outside the hall to stare blankly at the sun gradually rising on the horizon, but he was soon stunned by someone walking toward him.
“Fa… Fatir,” Levi asked in disbelief, “What is this?”
It was no wonder he was so shocked.
The Fatir who had just left had returned in a completely different outfit. Her loose Saintess Robe had been exchanged for form-fitting, exquisite Leather Armor that perfectly showcased her curvaceous figure. A beautiful Lady’s Longsword hung at her waist. The only thing unchanged was that her eyes were still covered by a ribbon of golden silk embroidery. And yet, this somehow gave her a paradoxical aura of being both holy and fallen.
“Levi, I will go with you to the New World,” she said as if it were the most natural thing.
Levi couldn’t for the life of him understand why Fatir would think this. “It’s not that I have a problem with you,” he said helplessly, “but if the New World *wasn’t* a Magicless World, it would be one thing. What are you going to do in a Magicless World?”
With the exception of Bodoff, that close-combat brute who went against the grain, ninety-nine percent of Mages were only slightly physically better than ordinary people. They were absolutely no match for elite Warriors.
Therefore, Levi doubted if the sword at Fatir’s waist could even kill a little white rabbit.
He was just one step short of saying it outright: ‘Don’t go and be a dead weight!’
“Don’t underestimate me. My Swordsmanship is actually no worse than a Palace Knight’s. Besides, I’m going with you to the New World this time to familiarize myself with it, so it will be easier for me to complete the Goddess’s trial when I enter again in the future.” In truth, Fatir was telling a partial lie.
The main reason was that she was unwilling to let Levi bear the entire burden alone. As the Saintess of the Holy Light Church, she also had a duty to solve this problem.
Besides, it wasn’t as if she was completely helpless. Thinking this, she couldn’t help but touch the ribbon at her temple.
“Do His Holiness the Pope and that lord know about this?” Levi asked.
He didn’t say the name directly, because the news that the Saint, Igo Saint, was still alive was clearly a secret known by very few.
“Solving the problem of the New World is an undeniable responsibility of the Holy Light Church,” Fatir said softly.
“Fine.” Levi knew he couldn’t dissuade her. He realized this Saintess was a bit like him: stubborn! Once she set her mind on something, not even a Nine-headed Giant Dragon could pull her back.
“Your Highness, the Teleportation Array has been repaired. It was just a few nodes that were slightly clogged from disuse. Once cleared, it became usable.”
A Holy Light Mage came to report.
The two walked back into the hall. The patterns on the floor were now all flowing with a blue light, like liquid, giving them a dreamlike appearance.
The Holy Light Mages had all withdrawn, leaving only a white-haired Cardinal standing before a half-man-high Jade Pillar. He spoke up and asked.
“Your Highnesses, is there anything else you need to prepare?”
“No.” The two of them shook their heads at the same time.
“Then stand on the starburst in the very center of the Teleportation Array, and I will activate the Magic Array to send you to the Trial World.”
The old Cardinal patiently asked them about their intentions several more times—after all, once the teleportation began, it could not be reversed. After receiving the same unwavering answer, he finally nodded slightly, placed one hand on the Jade Platform, and began Chanting an ancient and mysterious Spell.
The moment the Chanting stopped, a pillar of Holy Light descended from the sky, enveloping them both.
“Hold on to me!” Levi felt a pulling sensation and instinctively grabbed tightly onto Fatir’s and Buji’s small hands.
In the blink of an eye, the three of them vanished from the hall. Only the Cardinal remained. He turned his world-weary eyes to the statue of the Goddess nearby and whispered a blessing.
“May the Goddess bless you.”
