Chapter 388: The Chen Family's Joy of Having a Son

  • Next Chapter

“Boss, you don’t have to come. These Xiake Island bastards prey on the weak and fear the strong. They backed down the second we arrived. We towed away that junk ship of theirs and deported everyone. As long as the family keeps the resources coming, we’re a stake driven into this island! No one can pull us out!”

Chen Qingdi could hear the confidence in Chen Yuan’s voice even through the phone, and it made him very happy.

After following him for so long, he had finally grown into a Commander-in-Chief who could stand on his own.

‘You can’t be so selfish as to expect someone to be your subordinate forever.’

Chen Yuan’s choice to remain stationed on Xiake Island was a stroke of good fortune for him.

Chen Qingdi stretched lazily.

Just then, the sound of a baby crying came from the bedroom.

“Sishun’s dad, the baby pooped! Get in here and change his diaper!”

Shen Mingyue’s languid voice drifted from the bedroom.

Not long ago, Shen Mingyue had given birth to their nearly nine-pound son. As the couple had previously agreed, they named him Chen Sishun.

From then on, all romance and dashing charm were things of the past for Chen Qingdi.

Instead, preparing formula, changing diapers, and applying baby powder became the standard routine for this model family man.

‘Sometimes, he’d get ideas, but his wife was still in postpartum recovery, so he couldn’t touch her. There was nothing to be done about it. It was a good thing he could channel all that pent-up energy into his work.’

Chen Qingdi skillfully washed the baby’s bottom, applied baby powder, put on a fresh diaper and little clothes, and even placed a tiger-head cap on his head.

Shen Mingyue watched all of this, a faint smile playing on her lips. She asked, “Honey, are you tired?”

Chen Qingdi wiped a bead of sweat from his brow. “Oh, not tired.”

He placed their son back in Shen Mingyue’s arms, and the baby began to nurse.

Looking at his robust, healthy-looking son, Chen Qingdi felt a mix of pain and joy.

Just then, the phone he’d left in the living room began to ring off the hook.

Shen Mingyue said calmly, “That must be one of your lady friends thinking of you. Just remember to come home. Go on, take the call outside.”

But Chen Qingdi didn’t go out. Instead, he sat down next to Shen Mingyue, wrapped an arm around her shoulder, and gently patted their baby’s little arm.

“Not answering. Wouldn’t answer it if my life depended on it!”

Shen Mingyue put on an understanding facade.

“What if it’s some matter of global importance? Wouldn’t you, one of the main players, fade into obscurity?”

Just then, the baby, who had been eating a bit too quickly, started to cough and spit up a little milk.

Chen Qingdi had a box of tissues handy; he quickly pulled one out and wiped the corner of his son’s mouth.

Then he took the baby, saying, “Honey, you’re tired too. Rest for a bit. There’s food in the pot, go eat first.”

The baby was quite a handful, always waking up and fussing right at mealtimes, forcing the couple to eat in shifts.

In reality, with their financial resources, the couple could have easily hired several nannies to look after the baby in shifts.

But it was as if Shen Mingyue had forgotten about that option, tirelessly ordering Chen Qingdi around instead.

And Chen Qingdi, for his part, seemed to have never even considered it. No matter how his wife bossed him around, complained, or even threw unreasonable tantrums, he would always just smile and comfort her softly.

Neither of them had any experience, so they were often a mess of flustered activity. But faced with this endless series of clumsy moments, they felt the hearts of their little family of three growing closer and closer.

When they watched their baby’s toothless little mouth break into a silent smile, the couple, though utterly exhausted, felt their hearts fill with sweetness.

While Chen Qingdi was playing with the baby, Shen Mingyue quickly got dressed, washed her hands in the bathroom, and then heard the phone in the living room ringing nonstop.

It turned out that, worried about the phone’s radiation affecting the mother and child, Chen Qingdi never kept his phone in the bedroom.

And he himself, in order to help his wife take care of the baby, had fully embraced the role of a stay-at-home dad.

Without even looking to see who was calling, Shen Mingyue said gently,

“Honey, this caller is so persistent. Why don’t you give me the baby and go answer it?”

But Chen Qingdi made an unexpected decision. “The phone’s too noisy. Turn it off!” It seemed he was determined to completely retreat into domesticity.

Shen Mingyue snorted. “You’re so heartless! And you with countless fans.” Though she said that, her hand was quite honest, shutting off the phone with a decisive CLICK.

An involuntary, happy smile touched the corners of her mouth.

Now, the room was perfectly silent, save for the occasional sounds of the small family.

After finishing her meal, Shen Mingyue said coquettishly, “I haven’t taken a bath in so long, I feel filthy. Honey, can I please take a bath?”

Chen Qingdi shook his head. “I’m warning you, don’t stir up trouble! You’ve eaten, so get back to the bedroom and rest! If your bones don’t heal properly, you’ll be the one to suffer!”

He shook his head helplessly. ‘The postpartum bleeding hasn’t even stopped, and she wants to take a bath? Is she trying to get herself killed?’

Shen Mingyue stopped cajoling and, after finishing her meal, obediently went to the bedroom.

The baby was now asleep in his crib. To ensure he developed a nicely shaped head, they had to be mindful of turning him over from time to time.

Watching Chen Qingdi handle everything with such practiced skill, Shen Mingyue’s heart melted.

Once the baby was sound asleep, Chen Qingdi came to the bed. Mingyue instinctively leaned into his embrace, her hand reaching up to toy with a button on his shirt.

“Honey, you’re so good to me!”

‘I’m not,’ Chen Qingdi thought with a bitter laugh.

‘If I’m “good” now, it only started when Mingyue was having the baby.’

With her eyes closed, she suddenly murmured, “It would be nice if you could stay with me like this forever.”

Chen Qingdi gently laid Shen Mingyue down on the bed and began to massage her to relieve her fatigue. Before long, Mingyue’s eyelids grew heavy, and she managed to say one last thing.

“We’re out of the children’s lung-clearing powder. Go buy some more.”

Chen Qingdi casually agreed. Seeing that his wife had fallen asleep, he kissed her on the cheek and slipped out of the room.

He grabbed his phone and drove away from the villa.

In the car, he turned his phone on. It was instantly bombarded with all sorts of messages, nearly causing it to crash.

He found a flood of messages on his phone—from his lady friends, his subordinates, and even from the two War Gods.

The most important one was a congratulatory message from Long Shou, celebrating the birth of his son.

He picked out the important messages and replied.

A short while later, he arrived at a shop and found two people waiting for him: his followers, Qian Laoliu and Lone Wolf.

“Boss, you’re finally out!”

The three brothers were overjoyed to see each other, trading playful punches on the shoulder in a display of their unique masculine bond.

“If you have something to say, say it quick. I have to go back after I buy some baby powder.”

“I want to see my little nephew. Can I go with you?”
