Chapter 366: Let Me Undo Your Bad Omen

  • Next Chapter

“Infinite Celestial Venerable. Please, rise, patron.”

Wang Meijuan looked up. She suddenly noticed Chen Qingdi’s expression had become extremely concerned and asked, “Master Daoist, have you seen something?”

Chen Qingdi looked her up and down before speaking with great sincerity.

“Patroness, from this humble Daoist’s perspective, the ‘ominous sign’ on you is not small.”

Before he had even finished speaking, one of the two young female apprentices beside him viciously pinched his arm. ‘Why do you have to say things that get people all worked up?’

Wang Meijuan sighed. “To be honest with you, this ‘bad omen’ has been with me ever since I graduated from college. My first two husbands both died tragically for no reason, and my third husband died inexplicably at our wedding half a month ago. We don’t know which deity we’ve offended, nor how to atone for our sins. I beg you, Master Daoist, to use your wondrous skills and restore peace to our lives.”

Chen Qingdi chanted another prayer before speaking.

“The reason all the masters you’ve hired before have failed is because their spiritual power was no match for the evil spirit. The only one who can resolve this ‘bad omen’ of yours is this humble Daoist!”

A glimmer of hope appeared in Wang Meijuan’s eyes. She pressed, “And how would we go about diminishing it?”

Chen Qingdi immediately replied, “Naturally, I will require the patroness’s cooperation.”

“How should I cooperate?”

‘People don’t just die for no reason,’ Chen Qingdi thought. ‘Setting aside all the supernatural talk, there’s another possibility: someone used a very sophisticated method to assassinate those three men.’

‘As long as I stick close to Chairwoman Wang Meijuan, the person behind this will definitely make a move. And as soon as they do, I’ll be able to catch them.’

‘But if I say that out loud, it will definitely alert my opponent and cause them to erase any potential clues.’

Therefore, he said with an air of profound mystery, “My two female disciples will perform the ritual outside. This humble Daoist will accompany you to your bedroom to lay a spiritual formation. We will wait for the evil entity to arrive and capture it in one fell swoop.”

Wang Meijuan hesitated slightly. “Master Daoist, is this… appropriate?”

Chen Qingdi spoke with an aura of righteous indignation. “As a proper Maoshan Daoist, I consider it my duty to eliminate bad omens! How could I shrink back in fear over a small difficulty? Follow me! Even if a thousand demons and ten thousand ghosts stand before me, I will never retreat!”

Wang Meijuan’s bedroom was quite refined and elegant. It was hard to imagine that a prominent white-collar professional would have the heart of a young girl. The bedroom was decorated with many plush dolls and merchandise from her favorite anime.

Several beautiful wind chimes also hung by the window, tinkling melodiously whenever the wind blew.

Chen Qingdi frowned. “Who gave you these wind chimes?”

Wang Meijuan paused. “Is there some special significance to wind chimes?”

Chen Qingdi said with great solemnity, “According to the Maoshan Daoist Sect, wind chimes are of yin nature and are items that attract ghosts. With so many of them hanging here, it becomes incredibly easy for all sorts of evil spirits to find you. It’s like you’re carrying a GPS for the Underworld. Tell me, isn’t that terrifying?”

Wang Meijuan’s face turned pale with fright. “Should I take them down, then?”

Chen Qingdi waved his hand dismissively. He had already memorized all the sayings of the Maoshan Daoist Skill on the plane and had them down pat, so he could spout them off the cuff with practiced ease.

“I estimate they’re already attached to a great deal of demonic energy. If you try to force them down now, you’ll only bring other disasters upon yourself. Better to just let them be for now.”

Just then, a terrifying ghostly wail echoed from out of nowhere.

AH!

Terrified, Wang Meijuan shrank into Chen Qingdi’s arms.

“A ghost!”

As a Divine Physician whose business was to snatch patients from the jaws of death, Chen Qingdi held no particular reverence for such creatures.

Even though the ghostly wail just now had been quite terrifying, in his eyes, it was merely a strange audio frequency, far from being able to make his hair stand on end.

He scanned the room, looking for the source of the sound.

Unfortunately, the surroundings were unnaturally quiet, and he couldn’t spot any electronic devices.

“I’m here. Go ahead and get some sleep.”

Wang Meijuan didn’t dare let go of him. “Don’t leave. Stay with me.”

Chen Qingdi gave a bitter smile. “I’d like to, but we don’t have a proper relationship. If this got out to the media, it would be bad for both of us, don’t you think?”

Wang Meijuan’s eyes darted slyly. “What if we did have a relationship?”

“What kind of relationship?”

Wang Meijuan hugged him tightly. “I’ve accepted my fate. As long as you and I can make it through tonight safely, I’ll be your woman from now on. Just stay with me!”

Understanding her fear, Chen Qingdi didn’t refuse. “You’re a billionaire, and I’m just a penniless Little Daoist. Our social statuses are completely mismatched. Even if I agreed, would your family?”

Strangely enough, ever since Chen Qingdi’s voice filled the room, Wang Meijuan was no longer as frightened, even though the ghostly wail could still be heard occasionally.

She now had the confidence to joke with Chen Qingdi.

“I heard that Daoists of the Maoshan Sect all have partners. How about you let me be your dual cultivation partner?”

Chen Qingdi had been around all sorts of women, but never one whose hair was long enough to reach her heels. A long-haired beauty like this was the woman of his dreams.

“You really have this much confidence in me?”

Wang Meijuan chuckled. “You were just swearing an oath to resolve my ‘bad omen’ a moment ago. You haven’t forgotten already, have you?”

“You’re willing to let me resolve it?”

“I’m ready. Come on!”

At that moment, the bedroom lights went dark.

Just then, the terrifying sound returned.

AH!

Wang Meijuan screamed in terror and clung tightly to Chen Qingdi.

He gently patted her back. “If screams could kill people, then even a braying donkey would be more of a threat.”

As if it had suffered a great insult, the ghostly wail instantly fell silent.

The night passed without incident.

The next day, far from looking more haggard and pale, Wang Meijuan’s face had taken on a radiant, delicate glow.

The two of them emerged from the bathroom together. Her long hair was soaking wet, her exquisite figure wrapped in a bathrobe as she gave a charmingly cute yawn.

“I slept so well. Why don’t you stay? Just stay by my side. Even if you do nothing, I’ll pay you a million a year.”

Chen Qingdi was naturally quite pleased with this. “Maybe I’ll take you up on that offer?”

Meijuan wrapped her arms possessively around one of his.

“Thinking of running away? Don’t forget, you’re the one who personally resolved my ‘bad omen’!”

Chen Qingdi said nonchalantly, “You’re full of auspicious signs now. Does that mean my work here is done and I can retire?”

“Don’t even think about it.”

Wang Meijuan said possessively, “Even if you run off to Jinghai, I’ll chase you down and pay my respects to Mingyue in person! Besides, although it’s been temporarily resolved, it’s not completely gone yet. So you can’t get rid of me!”
