Peerless Medical Emperor

Chapter 345: Attacked on the Road

  • Next Chapter

Chen Qingdi had just finished writing a prescription for a patient with a cold and was weighing out the herbs when he suddenly received a call from the hospital.

“Excuse me, are you Mr. Chen? Ms. Shen Mingyue is pregnant and currently having a prenatal check-up. Would you like to come over?”

A prenatal check-up might be a routine affair, but any wife would want her husband by her side for such an exciting moment.

What does a man get together with a woman for?

Isn’t it to have a warm and cozy home?

Now that they had this fruit of their love, he finally felt a true blood connection to her.

He closed the clinic’s main door. Bodyguards from the Mingyue Group, having already gotten word, had arrived at the clinic and were waiting for him.

The bodyguards pulled open the door to his black stretch Lincoln. “Please get in, President Chen!”

No one would have ever imagined that the man seeing patients in this ordinary little clinic was actually the famous Divine Physician from Medical God Island.

With the situation being so complex, he had a substantial number of guards at his side.

Several cars drove ahead, others flanked them on both sides, and one brought up the rear.

As for the security captain, Qian Laoliu, he was in the front passenger seat, holding his weapon and vigilantly watching the surroundings.

Chen Qingdi, however, was far more composed. He was in the back seat, resting with his eyes closed.

Just then, a loud BANG came from the window he was leaning against. A small crack appeared in the center of the glass, but it didn’t shatter.

It looked like the damage was caused by some kind of projectile.

Fortunately, his car was bulletproof; an ordinary bullet couldn’t possibly penetrate it.

Qian Laoliu reacted on pure reflex, raising his weapon and shouting to the other bodyguards.

“Assassin! Protect President Chen!”

Chen Qingdi’s bodyguards were of a very high caliber. They even had the authority to carry firearms, though they had one ironclad rule: do not fire unless in self-defense.

An assassination attempt on their employer certainly met the condition.

Liu fired two warning shots into the air to deter the would-be assassins.

However, after the two shots, he suddenly noticed someone in a nearby tree still firing in his direction.

Luckily, he was using the bulletproof car door as cover; otherwise, he would’ve had his head blown off.

‘Damn it. You really think I’m just some chump?’

He snatched up his submachine gun and, without aiming, fired a shot by instinct toward where the muzzle flash had just been.

BANG!

A man in black fell from the tree, blood gushing from his thigh.

The guy was incredibly tough. Even in such a bad spot, he still tried to shoot at the car.

At that moment, the other bodyguards arrived and shot him once in each shoulder, disabling him but not killing him.

After the man was dealt with, Qian Laoliu immediately called the Yimu Battle God, telling him to send officers over. An assassination attempt on Lord Imperial Physician was an extremely serious incident.

The injured man was taken away by the patrol division to the appropriate facility.

Qian Laoliu sent a bodyguard to give a statement and explain the situation.

With no more time to waste, he and his men escorted Chen Qingdi as they hurried to the hospital.

On the way, they passed a flower shop, and Chen Qingdi got out to buy a single rose.

A rose symbolizes “I love you.”

He only bought one, not because he was stingy, but to express one sentiment to Shen Mingyue: “You are my one and only.”

As the group walked down the street, they suddenly noticed someone peeking furtively from a side alley.

Chen Qingdi snorted, and with a flick of his hand, a silver light shot out.

The guy who had been peeking from the alley cried out and scrambled away in a panic.

Qian Laoliu was drenched in sweat. “President Chen, I…”

Chen Qingdi shook his head, thinking to himself, ‘If Chen Yuan were still by my side, I wouldn’t be using such a clumsy blockhead.’

But saying that out loud would be hurtful, so he said very calmly,

“These two attacks were no coincidence. Have your men investigate this thoroughly!”

Qian Laoliu felt deeply ashamed. After all, he had boasted that his bodyguards were second to none in the entire Dragon Country, yet some random riff-raff had managed to get close to his boss and attempt an assassination.

This was a complete slap in the face!

Though it was a slap in the face, he had nothing to say in his defense, only stammering awkwardly, “Boss, don’t worry. I will definitely get to the bottom of this.”

Arriving at the hospital, Chen Qingdi put on a gentle smile.

The doctors and nurses at this hospital all knew him, and many people greeted him as he walked down the hallways.

Someone even said, “Lord Imperial Physician, you’re so gentle. I really envy your wife.”

Chen Qingdi didn’t take offense, just smiled and said, “Thank you. I’m sure you’ll find someone who loves you even more someday.”

His wife was sitting on the hospital bed, her hand stroking her slightly swollen belly, her face radiating a maternal glow.

Though her figure had changed a little from her pre-pregnancy days…

But in his eyes, she was more beautiful than ever before.

He placed the flower in Mingyue’s hand. Mingyue asked an attendant beside her to find a vase and put the flower on the windowsill where she could always see it.

Chen Qingdi asked in a low voice, “How many months has it been?”

Shen Mingyue blushed and said in a low voice, “My period hasn’t come for three months.”

He reached out his hand and gently stroked her belly through her clothes, suddenly feeling what seemed to be a faint pulse.

“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

Mingyue feigned anger. “Oh, so it’s my fault?”

Chen Qingdi quickly explained with an apologetic smile, “If you had told me earlier, I would have become a dad sooner, wouldn’t I?”

His words earned him a beautiful eye-roll. “Just look at you!”

“I’m always like this when I’m with you.”

Just then, the doctor in charge of the prenatal check-up walked over.

“Lord Imperial Physician, your wife’s pregnancy is a bit unstable right now. She needs to be hospitalized for a period of observation. That way, if anything happens, we can handle it promptly.”

The truth is, everyone has their own specialty. Even if Chen Qingdi was called the Emperor’s Physician, he couldn’t cure every single disease. At least when it came to obstetrics, he was genuinely no match for this attending physician.

So he smiled at the doctor and said, “Then I’ll have to thank you, Director Teng.”

This was Teng Yuanfang, the director of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Jinghai Renmin Hospital. She was a veteran expert in her field who had saved countless pregnant women, earning her the affectionate nickname “Child-Giving Guanyin.”

Director Teng smiled and said to him, “With the contributions you’ve made to our hospital, you deserve the best service. Don’t worry, your wife will be perfectly safe here!”

Chen Qingdi also said, “Actually, I have great confidence in our hospital. I’ll leave my wife in your capable hands, Director Teng!”

He came out and instructed Qian Laoliu, “My wife is being admitted today. You need to understand that security here is paramount. No matter what, you must be on guard against intruders. Absolutely do not lead any assassins to the hospital. Otherwise, the consequences will be unimaginable!”

After giving his instructions, he added, “I’m going to get some clothes for Mingyue. I suspect she won’t be able to leave the hospital room for a while. I’ll grab some clothes hangers too while I’m at it.”
