Chapter 2634: Chapter 2635: Return to Tianyun (201)

Su Xing also comforted him: "Father, you shouldn’t be so upset anymore; such people aren’t worth it."

Tao Chengyin sighed: "I’m not upset because of her; I’m just heartbroken that Ye’er was hurt by her for so many years and also heartbroken for Ye’er’s mother..." As he spoke, Tao Chengyin choked up again.

Taoming Ye’s biological mother was the one he loved dearly; he was so saddened when she passed away back then, but now he knows she was killed by his lawful wife.

He now deeply regrets that he obeyed filial duty and married Mrs. Cao under his mother’s orders. If he had insisted on marrying Ye’er’s mother as his lawful wife, these events wouldn’t have happened.

Taoming Ye comforted him further: "Father, Mother is surely watching over us from the heavens. She definitely doesn’t want you to be like this; you know her character. When wronged, she didn’t tell you because she didn’t want you to do anything for her. All she wanted was to be with you, which made her very happy. It’s just that her life was too short, and she couldn’t stay by your side and left too soon."

Tao Chengyin sighed: "I truly wanted to marry your mother as my rightful wife back then, but your grandmother didn’t agree and even threatened her life. I really had no choice..."

Taoming Ye said: "Let’s not talk about past matters anymore. This should be what Mother’s fate was."

Tao Chengyin sighed again before speaking: "I’ll go home now and write a divorce letter for that wicked woman and move your mother’s grave into the Tao family’s cemetery so she’ll be buried with me."

Doesn’t this mean elevating Taoming Ye’s status and making Taoming Ye’s mother the rightful wife?

Taoming Ye was happy but said: "Father, you want to make Mother your rightful wife; having this thought surely makes Mother very happy as she watches from above, but ’a family in harmony prospers,’ isn’t that what you always say? If Mother becomes your rightful wife, then I’ll turn into your legitimate son. What would the third brother, fourth sister, fifth brother, and sixth sister think? What would the aunts think? Let me remain as the Commons Son, so I can be closer to them and avoid friction. Besides, Mother has never fought for anything in life, and she certainly wouldn’t fight for these things after death."

Here, concubines are not allowed to be buried with the husband.

Tao Chengyin sighed: "You are just like your mother, always considering others and never thinking about yourself."

Taoming Ye felt like laughing a bit. He wasn’t a saint; he only considered those who cared about him. And Tao Mingsheng and the others were genuinely treating him like real family members. That’s already very good; there’s no need for any changes. ℴℴ𝗺

Su Xing also felt like laughing a bit. Her husband was shrewd and not that kind-hearted, but certainly not bad. After all, she liked him very much.

...

As soon as Tao Chengyin got home, he wrote the divorce letter and then went to the Ministry of Justice prison, standing at the door of the cell where Mrs. Cao was confined.

Mrs. Cao, covered in scars from the punishment, upon seeing Tao Chengyin, her eyes lit up as if seeing a savior. She hurriedly crawled to the cell door: "Master, Master, you came to save me, right? Master? I’m truly innocent, truly innocent..."

Tao Chengyin was furious: "You still claim you’re innocent?! Manjuan and Manhe have completely confessed. You not only started poisoning Ye’er after his birth but also poisoned his mother to death! Now you still plan to kill the Princess and Ye’er! I’ve never seen someone as vicious as you!"

"It wasn’t me, it wasn’t me..." Mrs. Cao kept denying, putting on a wronged expression.

Tao Chengyin took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down, and only after he was much calmer did he speak: "Manhe and Manjuan have already signed and pressed their fingerprints, confessing everything. They’ll be beheaded, while you will be executed by dismemberment."
