Chapter 829: 829: Playing With Dead

"It won’t be, but shouldn’t we get a cut too?" Ethan smiled back.

You Emperors are all gonna fill your pockets, but your subordinate can’t, huh?

However, knowing Ophelia, she was quite decent and bearing. She didn’t look like someone who would engage in petty politics. Ethan didn’t think she would make a big issue out of it, especially when Blanks had also suffered losses and expenses during the war.

"Report them and ask them to finish the task quickly. Also, send back the things recovered from the raids. I want to take a look."

"Yes, My Lord."

The man bowed deeply before turning around and leaving the room. Ethan remained seated for a moment and looked at the table, his fingers still tapping lightly against its surface. There were still many things that needed to be dealt with, and the aftermath of the war was far from over.

.......

Things collected from the ruins of the laboratories were transported to Blanks swiftly.

The raid on the labs wasn’t just a personal vendetta. Ethan also wanted to see what sort of things they had hidden there.

For example, the hand cannon. Ethan had gotten several blueprints from the System, but the one that had been fired at him was totally different, which he could tell at a glance.

Aside from that, the magical defense covering the entire Capital was also something earth-shaking. Ethan wanted all of this. He wanted to know what sort of things the Devine Family had crafted during those years and how far their research had gone.

One by one, the things they had recovered were neatly assembled inside the labs of Blanks.

Several strange cannons were lined up along the wall. They looked similar to the hand cannon that had fired at Ethan, but their structures were different. Some had long barrels with several magic stones placed around their bodies, while others had thick metal frames with complicated magical circuits carved into them. There were also smaller cannons that seemed to be designed for close-range attacks.

Beside them were several magical disks. Some were made from metal while others were made from strange crystal-like materials. Each disk had complicated patterns carved across its surface, and some still carried faint traces of energy. Ethan could not tell what they were used for just by looking at them.

There were also several containers filled with strange liquids. Some had dark red liquid inside while others contained green or pale blue substances. A few containers had already cracked during transportation, leaving dried stains around them.

The most disturbing things were the experimental human bodies.

Several glass containers had been brought in carefully. Inside them were human bodies that had been altered through experiments. Some had beast parts attached to their bodies, while others had strange changes in their bones and muscles. One had sharp claws growing from its fingers, while another had parts of its skin replaced with something that looked like scales.

There were also several sealed jars containing organs and other body parts. Some had clearly belonged to humans while others came from different magical creatures.

On another table were piles of documents, broken magical tools, strange metal parts and various crystals that had been recovered from the laboratories. Some of the documents were covered in strange notes and diagrams that Ethan had never seen before.

The entire laboratory was filled with things that made it difficult to tell whether they were weapons, research materials or failed experiments.

Ethan slowly walked past them while looking at each item. His eyes stopped on the hand cannon for a moment before moving toward the other equipment.

He had already seen how powerful that cannon could be.

If something like that could be mass-produced, it could completely change the way wars were fought.

Ethan then looked toward the magical disks and the other equipment. The Devine Family had clearly spent countless years researching these things, and he wanted to understand exactly what they had been doing.

"What do you think about all this?" Ethan asked while looking at Mareti, who was eyeing each of them like a kid who had gotten a huge surprise.

Mareti’s eyes moved from one object to another. He stepped closer to one of the magical disks and carefully examined the patterns on its surface. His expression was filled with curiosity, and he seemed to have temporarily forgotten everything else around him.

He reached out his hand but stopped just before touching it, instead observing the corpses nearby.

It had been quite a long time since he had touched corpses. He was someone who used corpses for experiments, but after coming here, he hadn’t gotten the chance to experiment on or even touch them.

His body started to quiver with uncanny excitement. His fingers twitched slightly, and his shoulders trembled as his eyes remained fixed on the corpses. There was an unusual eagerness on his face, and even his breathing became a little faster.

Ethan, who saw the guy acting strangely, was disgusted by his cringe behavior.

"Hey... What is this nonsense?" His shout made Mareti stop immediately, and he coughed lightly as he straightened his body.

"Sorry, I got excited."

Ethan stared at the corpses and wondered if he should burn them. Leaving them around didn’t seem like a good idea, especially after seeing Mareti’s reaction.

"Do you want to experiment on them?"

Mareti’s eyes shone, but he didn’t dare to answer immediately. He glanced at Ethan before looking back at the corpses.

Ethan stared at them and spoke, "I don’t have any intention to use human and beast lineages or something like that."

"It’s not just about warriors," Mareti said, rejecting the idea as he shook his head.

"We can also use them to study people and use them to replace organs and treat wounds."

Ethan raised his brows at the answer. He hadn’t expected Mareti to give such a reason.

While healing spells could heal many things, organ recovery wasn’t easy to think of unless they were at that level. However, even Ethan couldn’t regrow someone’s head.

Attaching a head was somewhat possible if not much time had passed, but how many healers were there with such capabilities? Therefore, doctors and surgeons were still required, but the study of medicine was quite backward.

Ethan took a deep breath and looked at Mareti.

"Do whatever you want, but I don’t want to see any filthy things coming out of this."

Mareti nodded quickly.

"Since they are already dead, I am just giving them to you to play with."
