Chapter 585:Someone Is Back
Chapter 585: 585:Someone Is Back
Two sudden screams exploded one after another inside the underground laboratory, and the sheer volume made Ethan cough lightly while rubbing his forehead in frustration.
"Listen guys... first you all need to calm down," he said while raising both hands slightly.
"Yes, we are quite calm," Hale replied immediately while nodding his head repeatedly.
"Believe me... I am very calm right now."
The way he spoke made Ethan’s lips twitch slightly because Hale looked anything but calm, and even the veins near his forehead were bulging visibly.
Mareti also looked equally troubled, and his brows were tightly furrowed while he stared at Ethan as if trying to understand whether he had finally lost his mind.
Ethan took a deep breath and paused for a moment while thinking about how to explain himself properly.
He closed his eyes briefly.
Then he opened them again slowly.
"Listen guys..." he spoke again, and this time his voice carried a deeper heaviness.
"This war... this fucking war... I am now sick of it."
The expressions of both Hale and Maretistiffened immediately after hearing that.
Mareti folded his arms and looked at Ethan carefully before speaking.
"So what’s new in this?" he asked plainly.
The question instantly threw Ethan off balance.
"Huh?"
Mareti sighed lightly.
"I mean... everyone is sick of it," he replied while shaking his head.
The room fell silent for a brief moment before Ethan let out a slow breath.
"Yeah... you are right," he admitted quietly.
"And that’s exactly why I want to finish this war once and for all."
His voice slowly turned more serious as he continued.
"I want it to stop, and as you all know, the demons started this war because of the disease affecting their young ones."
Ethan lowered his eyes slightly toward the potion resting on the table.
"I planned to take this and offer it to the Emperor, and then see whether he accepts the offer."
The moment those words left his mouth, Hale’s eyes widened even more, and he nearly jumped from his position.
"Ethan, have you gone insane?!" he shouted.
"The hell do you think this is?"
He pointed aggressively toward the potion.
"Do you think the Emperor will suddenly stop the war just because you advised him?" he continued loudly.
"You are being stupid."
Ethan gritted his teeth slightly after hearing that, but he did not lash out.
Instead, he spoke in a low voice.
"I don’t know," he admitted honestly.
"But I want to take this bet."
He slowly clenched his fist.
"Arcadia has already lost too much," he continued.
"The longer this war drags on, the worse the situation will become."
His expression gradually darkened.
Arcadia was the first empire to suffer the full assault of the demons, and even before that, they had already been trapped in continuous warfare for years.
Although the endless battles had sharpened many people and created powerful experts, there was still a limit to everything.
War consumed resources.
War consumed people.
And more importantly...
War consumed the future.
The prolonged years of fighting had already dealt severe damage to Arcadia, and if the war continued endlessly without any sign of stopping, then the entire empire would eventually enter an age of decline.
Ethan was absolutely certain of that.
And because of this...He believed the Emperor would seriously consider his proposal.
Mareyi looked at Ethan quietly for several seconds before finally speaking again.
"Lord... you should really think about this carefully before making a move," he said in a serious tone.
"The cause of this war might not be as straightforward as you think."
Ethan frowned immediately after hearing that.
"What do you mean?" he asked while narrowing his eyes slightly.
Mareti hesitated for a brief moment before replying.
"I am only guessing things, and I am not entirely sure myself," he answered slowly.
"Also... there are some things I know, but I cannot speak about them."
His tone became heavier.
"It would be very detrimental if you learned about them right now, and honestly... you are not supposed to know yet."
Those words only made Ethan feel even more curious, and countless thoughts immediately flashed through his mind.
But despite that, he still controlled himself.
He knew Maretivery well.
Maretiwas someone who understood limits and priorities better than most people, and he would never intentionally hide something important without reason.
If he was refusing to speak now, then there was definitely a reason behind it.
And Ethan also knew one more thing.
When the right time finally arrived...Maretiwould tell him everything himself.
The underground laboratory slowly fell silent again, and the faint bubbling sounds from the nearby flasks echoed softly while the heavy atmosphere remained hanging between the three of them.
....
After the discussion ended, Ethan did not waste any more time, and over the next few days, he quietly began preparing for his departure while carefully arranging several matters within the estate.
The underground laboratory was sealed temporarily, and Mareti continued handling the remaining research while Hale managed the hidden forces and intelligence network spread around the surrounding regions.
At the same time, Ethan personally wrote a formal letter and sent it toward the Imperial Capital through a trusted messenger.
After all, no matter how important the matter was, he could not simply walk into the Emperor’s palace and say he wanted to meet him.
That would only bring unnecessary suspicion and trouble.
So he requested an official audience carefully while mentioning that he possessed something extremely important regarding the current war.
The message was vague enough to avoid leaking information but serious enough to gain attention.
Once everything was arranged, Ethan finally relaxed slightly.
For the first time in several days, he sat quietly inside the courtyard while drinking tea and thinking about the upcoming journey.
The weather was calm.
The wind moved gently through the garden.
And for a brief moment, the atmosphere felt peaceful until loud commotion echoed from outside the estate.
Ethan frowned slightly and lifted his head while hearing hurried footsteps along with several surprised voices.
"What happened outside?" he muttered softly.
Before anyone could answer, a familiar cheerful voice suddenly rang out from the entrance.
"Move aside already!"
"You all are blocking the way!"
The next moment a figure rushed into the courtyard at full speed and jumped into Ethan’s embrace.
Ethan’s eyes widened slightly.
"Miranda?" he called out in surprise.
And sure enough...
The person standing there was none other than his daughter Miranda.
