Chapter 430:Sword Intent

Chapter 430:Sword Intent

Ethan walked toward the inner training courtyard located behind the research grounds. Unlike the noisy testing area, this place was calm and disciplined. Smooth stone flooring stretched across the open space, and countless faint sword marks carved into the ground showed years of relentless practice.

At the center stood Ray.

He was practicing alone.

His sword moved steadily through the air, each swing controlled and precise. There was no wasted movement, and his breathing flowed naturally with every strike. His posture was firm, yet Ethan could clearly sense the invisible wall Ray had been struggling to cross.

Ray had strength. He had experience.

But his aura had yet to fully awaken.

Ethan stopped near the entrance and watched silently for a while before finally speaking.

“You are forcing it too much.”

Ray immediately halted and turned around.

“Father.”

He lowered his sword respectfully while wiping sweat from his forehead.

“I thought you were with Mareti. From the explosion I heard, it was successful, right?”

“Of course it is,” Ethan replied calmly.

He walked closer and glanced at Ray’s blade.

“You improved,” he said.

Ray’s swordsmanship previously lacked finesse and experience, but now his movements carried refinement shaped by real battle.

Ray frowned slightly.

“I have… but at the same time I didn’t. During the war there were many moments when I could feel something, but I could not grasp it.”

Ethan nodded knowingly.

“That is the sword aura. It is really like a slippery eel and it needs a huge push to unlock.”

He reached into his storage ring and pulled out a small crystal vial.

Inside flowed a faint silver liquid. Threads of light drifted slowly within it like mist, and merely looking at it made the surrounding air feel sharper.

Ray’s eyes narrowed.

“What is that?”

Ethan tossed the vial lightly toward him.

Ray caught it instinctively, but the moment it touched his palm, a chilling sensation ran through his arm.

“This…” Ray murmured.

“A Sword Intent Potion,” Ethan said simply. “It will give you a chance of enlightenment.”

Ray stiffened.

“A chance?”

“Yes,” Ethan replied while crossing his arms.

“It temporarily sharpens perception and aligns your mind with killing intent and aura flow. If your understanding is sufficient, you may touch your own aura.”

Ray stared silently at the potion.

“And if I fail?”

Ethan shrugged.

“Then nothing happens except severe exhaustion and a headache. But if you succeed, you will step into a completely different realm.”

Ray’s grip tightened.

Sword aura was the line separating elites from true masters. Many warriors spent decades chasing it without success.

He looked at Ethan again.

“You used this before?”

Ethan smirked faintly.

“No. I broke through differently. It was during a dungeon battle when Uncle Randall and others’ lives were in danger.”

Ray sighed helplessly.

Of course. His father was different. A natural genius who did not need external help.

If Ethan heard that thought, he might cough blood.

What?

Natural genius.

Are you talking about me?

After a moment, Ray asked quietly, “Why give this to me now?”

Ethan’s expression softened.

“Because war is coming,” he answered honestly. “And next time we might not arrive in time.”

The words landed heavily.

Ray lowered his gaze and nodded.

“I understand.”

Ethan stepped back and gestured toward the center of the courtyard.

“Drink it and sit. Do not resist whatever you feel.”

Ray nodded firmly.

Without hesitation, he uncorked the vial and drank it.

The effect came instantly.

A sharp coldness exploded inside Ray’s chest the moment the potion flowed down his throat. His body trembled violently as invisible pressure spread outward from his core. The world around him began to slow, and every sound turned distant and hollow. He could hear the faint wind brushing against stone tiles, and he could hear his own heartbeat echoing loudly inside his ears.

Then everything changed.

A faint silver ripple appeared around his body, spreading like waves across still water. The air vibrated softly.

Ethan’s eyes sharpened as he watched from outside.

“…Good,” he muttered quietly.

Ray suddenly dropped to one knee. His breathing became uneven as countless memories flooded his mind. Every battlefield he had stepped onto, every moment where death brushed past him, and every killing intent he had endured gathered together like a storm.

Then darkness swallowed him.

When Ray opened his eyes again, the training courtyard was gone.

He stood inside an estate.

It looked familiar.

Too familiar.

“This…?” Ray whispered.

Ahead of him stood Ethan, younger, taller, and radiating overwhelming vitality. His posture was relaxed, his presence powerful, and his laughter echoed warmly across the courtyard.

But something felt terribly wrong.

Ray lowered his gaze toward his own hands.

They were thin.

Wrinkled.

Shaking.

“What’s happening?” he muttered anxiously.”Why do I feel so weak?”

Driven by fear, he staggered toward a nearby pond and looked into the water.

The reflection nearly stopped his heart.

A pale, bald, and aged man stared back at him. Deep wrinkles covered his face, and his eyes looked dull and exhausted as if life itself had already drained away.

“I… became old?” Ray whispered in horror.

At that moment, a soft whisper crawled into his ears.

A malicious voice.

While you worked hard till death… look at your father. He is enjoying his life.

Ray slowly turned.

Around him stood his siblings. Every one of them looked young, strong, and overflowing with vitality. Their laughter filled the estate while servants moved respectfully around them.

Only he looked like this.

Only he was decaying.

Ahead, Ethan sat comfortably while holding a woman close beside him. Others surrounded him, feeding him fruits while laughter continued casually.

Ethan noticed Ray and waved lazily.

“Oh, Ray. Did you finish your work? Here, take this.”

A folder flew toward him instinctively, and Ray caught it.

Inside were countless names.

Execution orders.

Endless work.

“Go, go. Don’t delay. Finish the work,” Ethan said casually while someone placed a grape near his lips.

“Oh handsome…” a soft voice giggled beside him.

Something snapped inside Ray.

“WHAAAT!” he roared.

“What are you doing!”

Ethan paused and looked at him with confusion.

“What do you mean what I am doing?”

Ray’s breathing turned heavy.

“Why do I have to work so hard while you enjoy everything? Why are you still young while I became old and frail?”

Ethan narrowed his eyes slightly.

“Oh,” he said calmly. “It is because you are the firstborn. You were born when I was weakest. That is why you are the weakest of all.”
