Chapter 379:She Will Strangle Me
Chapter 379:She Will Strangle Me
Seeing an opening, Ray jumped and raised his sword to strike a hulking brute.
But in mid-air, a thick spiked tail swung out from the smoke.
The slam hit his ribs and sent him rolling across the blood-soaked ground.
Ray gasped. His vision blurred for a second but before the monsters could swarm him,Florence closed the distance.
She moved with smooth and deadly grace. She stepped over Ray and pulled her sword back. With one fast lunge, she cut the charging enemy apart. Green blood spilled as the beast fell in two pieces.
Ray pushed himself up, coughing, and wiped dirt and blood from his face.
“Thanks..”
“Hmm!”
They stood back to back.
They covered each other without speaking. When Ray pushed forward, Florence guarded his side. When Florence struck, Ray blocked for her. They fought like two parts of one body.
The air grew thicker with ash and blood mist. It was hard to see more than a few steps away.
Ray was busy hacking through the thick hide of a beast with many snapping jaws. He focused on finishing it and did not notice the shadow creeping in from his side.
A low scavenger beast crouched close to the ground. Its thin claws were long and sharp, made to pierce armor. Ray was overextended.
He did not have time.
The creature jumped.
A blur of steel flashed.
The beast split apart in mid-air and fell in pieces.
Ray froze and looked up.
A man stood there, covered in blood from head to toe. His armor was cracked and his face was pale, but he gave a small, tired smile.
“Kid… be careful and mindful of your surroundings when you fight, or you might fall prey to these hyenas.”
His voice was rough but steady. His eyes were sharp.
He turned and moved toward the next wave.
Ray took a deep breath and steadied himself.
The war was far from over.
Ray looked at the man who had just saved his life. His chest was still rising fast, and blood and dust clung to his face.
“Thanks, sir!” Ray called out.
The man had already turned to leave, but he suddenly stopped. He looked back over his shoulder.
“Wait… wait… Did you just say sir?”
Ray nodded with a small frown, confused.
The man burst into loud laughter. “Hahahahah!”
“SIRR…It feels good to be addressed to Sir.”
He wiped blood from his cheek with the back of his hand. “I hope you don’t die here, kid. And fighting with your beloved… May the Goddess be with you!”
With that, he jumped forward and disappeared back into the battlefield, leaving Ray and Florence standing among bodies and broken ground.
Florence hurried to Ray’s side. She pulled out a small towel and gently wiped the blood and dirt from his face.
“Are you okay?” she asked, her voice tight.
“Thanks… I am good,” Ray said, giving her a tired smile.
The two of them looked around.
The scene was brutal. Corpses of beasts and humans lay mixed together. Blood ran in small streams through the cracks in the earth. Smoke drifted low, and the smell of iron filled the air.
In the middle of this chaos, more beasts broke through.
The ordinary beasts and giant birds, driven by wild fury and hunger, crashed past the first defensive line. Their numbers were too many, and their attacks were too fierce. A gap opened, and the danger moved closer to the inner ranks.
“Second formation! Charge!” a loud voice roared.
At once, the Intermediate and Advanced rank knights rushed forward. They moved in tight coordination, their steps steady and trained. They were not as strong as the Masters, but their discipline was solid.
They met the stronger beasts head on. Swords rose and fell. Shields slammed forward. They focused on the more dangerous enemies and ignored the weak ones so they would not waste strength.
Ray and Florence joined the charge with swords in their hands. Around them, claws, fangs, and steel flashed in every direction. The battlefield was madness, but they moved through it with sharp focus.
Their Lightning Step, inherited from Ethan, made them blur. One moment they were there, and the next they were somewhere else. The beasts could not track them easily.
They cut one enemy after another. Every strike was quick and deadly, leaving bodies behind them.
Ray stood out even among the other Intermediate ranks.
His movements were fast and clean. Once his mind settled, he felt almost untouchable. His senses stretched wide, as if a small world had formed around him. He could feel attacks before they came.
Each strike he made was precise. His blade slid through thick hides and hard bones like they were paper. He weaved through attacks, never staying in one place.
“Amazing…” someone muttered from behind the lines.
Many soldiers watched him while fighting. Even in the middle of chaos, their eyes followed his figure.
The commander noticed too. “Where did this guy come from?”
“What a talent. After the battle, make sure he gets enough potions.”
“Such a talent should not be buried here. Do you understand?”
“Yes, sir!”
While their focus stayed on Ray, they missed another change.
Not far from him, Florence was growing.
Like a flower blooming in blood, she moved quietly. With every fight, her control improved. The blood on the ground and the weapons in her hands became part of her training.
From peak beginner rank, she had stepped into early Intermediate rank.
Unlike Ray, her style was not brutal. Every attack of hers aimed at a weak spot. Throat, eyes, joints. She did not waste motion.
She slipped past claws, bent under strikes, and cut with calm precision. There was no hesitation in her eyes. It was slow and painful learning, but she did not stop.
Step by step, Florence kept moving forward in the middle of war.
….
His fingers tightened around the paper. The veins on the back of his hand stood out.
He lifted his head and looked at Hall, who stood in front of him, sweating and swallowing nervously.
Ethan could not hold it in anymore.
“Damn!”
“Out of all the places, did you really have to go there, you idiot?”
“Stupid. Stupid…”
With the third stage of bloodline convergence, he could track his children. That was how he sensed Ray moving toward the Frontier.
Ethan had immediately ordered the Black Thorns to search for him. What they found made his heart jolt in terror.
His firstborn had become a mercenary and had enrolled in the army resisting the demonic invasion.
“This is risky. Way too risky…”
“My Lord, should I send some people to keep tabs on the young Lord and protect him in case of trouble?” Hall asked carefully.
Ethan went silent.
Sending people to help was one thing. But they might die in the war. He could teleport and save Ray in case of danger. But then others would notice.
After thinking for a long moment, Ethan spoke.
“No. Since he wanted to experience brutality, let him experience this.”
“But—”
“Let him,” Ethan cut him off. “I have a method to save him. Also…”
His face stiffened.
“Don’t let Sophia know about this, no matter what.”
He was already sweating just imagining what Sophia would do if she heard this.
‘Fuckk!’
‘I might be strangled..’
