Chapter 378:The Tensed Situation
Chapter 378:The Tensed Situation
Elara nodded slowly. “I want someone to care whether I live or die. I want to feel loved… and taken care of.”
Silence followed.
The distant laughter of children echoed again.
Mira looked up at the sky, her expression softer than ever before.
None of them spoke for a long moment, yet the same thought formed in their hearts.
Finally, Selene whispered, “Maybe… we should stay.”
Lyra nodded first.
Elara followed.
Mira closed her eyes briefly and then spoke quietly.
“Let’s take a leap of faith.”
Far away, a man leaned against the window, admiring the beautiful blooming maidens.
“What are you watching, Lord, that is making you happy?”
Rathlos asked with a frown.
Ethan looked at Rathlos and shook his head.
“You won’t understand, Rathlos.”
“You won’t understand the feeling of saving maidens from darkness. After all, you aren’t as handsome as me.”
Rathlos, for some reason, felt that it was a personal attack but decided to be magnanimous.
…..
While a peaceful life shrouded Ruthiana, in Frontier the atmosphere was quite heavy and cold.
Generally, the demonic monsters were just mindless beasts who followed survival instinct, not hunger. However, despite their differences, those creatures were united. A dark commanding force bent them to its will. They moved in perfect unison. Their individual instincts were suppressed, replaced by a collective and relentless drive to follow the behemoths into battle.
It was as if they were drawn toward the towering figures, compelled to march beside them like extensions of their wrath. This unnatural alliance of demonic beasts, each more terrifying than the last, formed a tidal wave of destruction that threatened to swallow everything in its path.
As they drew closer, their numbers became clearer. There were thousands. No, perhaps thirty thousand or more. All of them moved toward the city with one purpose.
Destruction.
The ground shook under their steps. Dust rose into the air. The walls trembled.
A primal fear gripped the hearts of even the bravest soldiers.
Yet the archers did not run.
They stood on the walls, shoulders tight, fingers steady on their bowstrings. Sweat rolled down their faces, but their eyes did not waver.
Amidst this Ray and Florence who stood on frontlines felt a bit nervous.
Ray felt the weight of the moment press down on him.
This battle would decide everything.
There was no turning back now.
He turned his head slightly and glanced at Florence beside him. Her jaw grounded as she looked ahead. Her hands were firm on her weapon. Their eyes met for a second, and both of them nodded.
“Fire!” the Knight Commander bellowed from the front.
“Swish… Swoosh…”
In an instant, thousands of arrows filled the sky.
They flew like a dark cloud, then split into lines of light as the skills embedded in them activated mid-flight. The battlefield lit up with flashes and streaks of energy.
Lightning arrows struck first.
They hit the beasts with cracking sounds. Electricity ran across their bodies, making muscles seize and bones lock. Some creatures collapsed while convulsing, smoke rising from their fur.
Explosive arrows followed.
They pierced into flesh and detonated. Blasts tore through bodies, and chunks of meat and bone flew across the field. The shockwaves knocked other creatures off their feet.
Fire arrows rained down.
Flames burst on impact and rolled across the ground. Burning bodies screamed and rolled, setting others on fire. The front lines turned into a blazing wall.
One by one, the smaller beasts fell.
But their screams did not stop.
Piercing shrieks filled the air. Some soldiers screamed when they saw friends torn apart. Others cried out as claws and fangs reached the walls. The sounds of men shouting orders mixed with the howls of monsters and the roar of flames.
“Aaaahhh!”
“Hold the line!”
“Don’t stop firing!”
The noise was overwhelming.
The air smelled of smoke, blood, and burning flesh. The ground shook again and again as more creatures pushed forward over the corpses of the fallen.
Ray’s hands trembled for a brief moment.
Then he tightened his grip.
This was war.
And it had only just begun. He can’t falter right at beginning. He had seen death but never so at such a large widespread scale.
One by one, the smaller beasts fell, but their screams did not stop.
Sharp, piercing shrieks filled the air. Some soldiers screamed when they saw their friends torn apart right beside them. Others cried out as claws scraped the walls and fangs snapped inches from their faces. The sounds of men shouting orders mixed with the howls of monsters and the roar of flames.
“Left flank..Monsters are approaching.”
“Right flank..Struck down that fucking big big.*
The noise pressed against the ears and made it hard to think.
The air smelled of smoke, blood, and burning flesh. The ground shook again and again as more creatures pushed forward, climbing over the corpses of the fallen like a moving hill of meat and bone.
The bigger beasts took the brunt of the attacks and started falling. Arrows stuck in their hides and spells burst against their thick shells. However, the smaller ones stayed shielded behind the larger bodies. They slipped through the chaos and rushed fast toward the humans.
“Front LINES!”
“Raise your sword and shield.”
“ENGAGE!”
The front lines groaned as the demonic horde crashed into them.
Ray and Florence stood side by side. These were not normal animals. They were nightmares made of strong scales and jagged bones. Some had many glowing purple eyes. Others had long arms that ended in serrated blades that looked like rusted metal.
Ray stepped forward into the fight.
He moved with the soldiers in a tight, disciplined formation. Shields locked together. Spears thrust between the gaps. Ray fought just ahead of them like the edge of a blade.
His fighting style was brutal and direct. He did not waste motion. He did not show off. Every move was meant to kill.
He swung his heavy sword in a wide arc. The blade cut through the neck of a leathery-winged beast. Black blood sprayed hot across his arm. Another monster lunged at his throat. Ray did not just block. He stepped forward and drove a hard kick into its chest. The impact sounded like dry wood snapping. The beast flew back and crashed into the mud.
Seeing an opening, Ray jumped and raised his sword to strike a hulking brute.
But in mid-air, a thick spiked tail swung out from the smoke.
The slam hit his ribs and sent him rolling across the blood-soaked ground.
Ray gasped. His vision blurred for a second but before the monsters could swarm him,Florence closed the distance.
