Path to Becoming the Greatest Space Mercenary
Chapter 599 - 599 Head of the Kaizer Family (3)
Avery's mind raced as he tried to figure out Matthias intentions.
He was wondering if this was a joke or some sort of test.
No doubt Matthias already had heard that neither he nor Liesel were looking to take over the Kaizer Fleet.
Well, in Liesel's case, she was no longer aiming to take the position as head of the family. Had she received this offer before she joined Avery, there's no doubt she would have jumped at the chance.
While Avery was lost in thought, Liesel ended up being the one to respond promptly with almost no hesitation.
"I'm grateful that you view our capabilities in such a favorable way, but we've already discussed this with my aunt Brunhilda, and we don't want to take over."
Matthias started jovially laughing at this response, and Avery figured that this meant that Liesel's answer was correct.
'I figured that this must have just been another test to determine if we'd stick to our word.' Avery thought, internally sighing in relief that it did not seem this would become a more complicated manner.
"Yes, that's what I heard. It is a bit of a shame though, since you've grown so much and found a good partner." Matthias said, shrugging his shoulders.
He then turned towards Avery and asked him if he wanted to try sparing for a bit.
This time it would not be an ambush, and he was free to pick out some of the training weapons on hand to not be under equipped.
'I was hoping that this would be a peaceful meeting, but I guess not. Although, I can't deny that I do want to test myself against.'
Avery knew that Matthias was very strong. Far and away above most people.
Not only did he undoubtably possess plenty of top-tier body enhancements, but he was also extremely skilled.
Though Avery trained himself quite often to keep himself sharp, there was no doubt he was still basically an amateur compared to someone like Matthias.
It was a bit refreshing to have someone like to train against, and it helped him to not get too big of a head.
Certainly, Avery had become quite powerful, there was no denying that.
Yet there were still people out there better than him that could cause him real trouble.
When he was taking on small armies be himself without breaking a sweat, it sometimes made it feel like he was unstoppable.
However, he was not the only exceptional person in the galaxy.
"Sure, that sounds good. I just need solid melee weapon. You wouldn't happen to have any more of those rods that you use? I feel like giving them a try."
"I'm afraid that I only have the pair. They were specially made for me. Though, I suppose that you can probably handle it. I'll let you borrow one." Matthias responded, his lips turned up into a sly grin.
The two of them left the hidden room and returned to the training area.
Once they were in position, Matthias pulled out his weapons and tossed one over to Avery.
Without any difficulties he caught it, but that was when things almost went wrong.
Avery had merely just grabbed ahold of the metal rod. Not expecting what came next.
'F*ck! Why is it so heavy?!'
The weapon nearly dragged him to the ground since he had not braced himself for the weight.
Normally Avery had no problem handling heavy objects, but he had been caught off guard this time because of how seamlessly Matthias wielded the his chosen weapons.
From the way the man swung them around so easily, Avery had not expected them to be such a burden.
Fortunately, he was able to keep himself from toppling over or dropping the rod on his foot.
Both scenarios would have ended painfully, even for Avery.
After he was able to center himself and put a bit more strength into his arms, Avery found that he was able to lift the rod up with only a little difficulty. It would just take a bit of getting used to.
"Impressive. To think that you're strong enough to hold that thing while its internal gravity generator is set to max. Effectively that rod should feel like it weighs around ten thousand kilograms."
Avery eyes went wide when he heard this.
Not just because of how heavy the rod was, but that it had a gravity generator inside of it.
That was pretty insane for a weapon that was swung around with immense force.
One wrong move and the gravity generator would explode. Also, Avery had never even heard of making one so small that it could fit inside of the rod that he was currently holding.
"I can see that your surprised. Perhaps if you impress me enough, I'll share a few secrets of its design with you." Matthias said, wearing a wide grin.
A moment later, Avery had to adjust his balance again as the rod suddenly felt far lighter.
"The gravity controls don't have a manual function and are connected to an implant in my head, so I'll keep them off in the spirit of fairness. They should still serve as perfectly fine weapons as is."
Despite the rod now being significantly easier to wield, Avery figured that it still weighed around a thousand kilograms. Something a regular person would be unable to lift.
What he found really impressive though, was the metal itself.
It was a type of alloy he had never seen before, and one that clearly had some unique properties other than just being incredibly dense.
While Avery was wondering if he might be able to the metal's specifications from Matthias and see what Grito could do with it, a sudden flash of movement brought him out of his thoughts.
Only thanks to his honed reflexes was Avery able to block the blow that Matthia had aimed at him.
"I'm not just going to wait around forever while you daydream. This might just be a spar, but you shouldn't let your focus slip. Otherwise, you might get hurt."
