A pale gray dawn broke over the Imperial Capital, bringing freezing wind from the northern mountains.

Along the main boulevard leading toward the government district, steel barricades lined the sidewalks. Squads of city enforcers in full riot armor directed traffic, keeping civilian vehicles away from the central avenue.

Inside the black armored SUV, Evren looked out the tinted window.

Broadcast vans from every major news network in the Empire were parked along the perimeter, their satellite dishes aimed at the sky.

Dozens of reporters stood behind the police lines, broadcasting live updates to millions of viewers across the continent.

"The security is tighter than yesterday," Zephyra observed from the rear seat.

She wore a sleek black combat tunic beneath a lightweight coat. At her right hip hung the matte-black scabbard of the Shadow Whip-Blade, completely concealed beneath the folds of her jacket.

"Stage Two wartime alert," Amber replied from beside Evren. "With twelve sectors reporting rift activity, the Ministry isn’t taking any chances."

Amber wore a white-and-crimson executive suit with tailored trousers. Her long dark hair was pinned neatly back, and the restored silver-and-jade Patriarch Seal of the Sterling family was fastened to her lapel.

She looked radiant, commanding, and completely untouchable.

Evren wore his usual practical attire: a dark, heavy-duty tactical jacket over a charcoal shirt, durable pants, and clean black combat boots.

He didn’t bother with the ornate silks or gilded cloaks favored by Capital nobles. True power didn’t need gold trim to make a statement.

The convoy turned through a massive iron gate, entering the sovereign plaza.

Ahead of them rose the Grand Imperial Sovereign Hall.

The colossal granite amphitheater resembled an ancient colosseum, modernized with sweeping glass arches and brass pillars. Two hundred feet above the plaza, massive banners bearing the Imperial Defense Division’s eagle crest hung between the stone columns.

Dozens of luxury limousines and armored transports were already parked along the curved driveway.

Guild masters, high-ranking arbiters, and wealthy corporate oligarchs stepped out onto the red carpet, surrounded by heavily armed bodyguards.

"Here we are," Evren said as the SUV came to a smooth halt.

The driver opened the door, and the three of them stepped out onto the red carpet.

The cool morning air hit their faces, carrying the faint scent of ozone and burning mana crystals from the hall’s barrier generators.

As soon as Evren and Amber stepped into view, cameras flashed rapidly along the media barricade.

"Chairman Evren!" a reporter shouted, thrusting a directional microphone over the railing. "Is it true Apex was summoned on an emergency imperial mandate?"

"Miss Sterling! Does Apex intend to contest the High Council’s resource requisition decree?" another journalist called out over the clamor.

Amber ignored the noise, keeping her chin up and walking with steady, confident strides beside Evren.

Zephyra followed half a step behind Evren’s right shoulder, her violet eyes scanning the perimeter with effortless assassin instincts.

They climbed the wide marble steps and passed through the heavy bronze double doors into the grand rotunda.

The interior was magnificent.

Polished white marble floors stretched beneath a soaring stained-glass dome. Towering granite columns supported concentric tiers of private balconies and circular seating rows that looked down onto a central debate floor.

Hundreds of guild masters and delegates stood in clustered groups, their voices creating a loud hum of conversation that echoed off the vaulted ceiling.

"We need to register at the chief protocol desk," Amber said, gesturing toward a raised dais near the central archway.

They walked across the marble floor toward the desk.

Behind the ornate counter stood a tall, slender man in an embroidered violet coat, wearing the silver lapel pin of House Caldwell.

He held a glowing crystal tablet, checking off arriving delegations with an air of bored condescension.

"Registration credentials," the official said without looking up.

Amber placed their official guild charter and documentation onto the counter. "Apex Guild of Veridia."

The official’s fingers paused. He looked down at the documents, then slowly raised his head, his thin lips curling into a smug, dismissive smirk.

"Apex Guild," the man drawled, his voice dripping with condescension. "I am Senior Steward Haddon. Let me see what we have for you."

He tapped his tablet, scrolling through the seating registry.

"Ah, yes. Veridia," Haddon said, looking Evren up and down with obvious disdain. "A newly registered provincial mining guild."

Several nearby delegates from Capital guilds turned their heads, listening in with amused smiles.

"Your assigned seats are in Section F, Row Nineteen," Haddon announced loudly, waving a limp hand toward the far corner of the arena. "The Provincial Observer Annex."

Amber’s eyes narrowed. "Section F?"

"That is correct," Haddon sneered. "Up the stairs, all the way to the back wall, directly behind the third support pillar."

Zephyra’s hand subtly shifted under her coat, resting against the hilt of her whip-blade.

"Section F is an unranked observation gallery for non-voting delegates," Amber said, her voice dropping into a dangerous, icy calm. "Apex Guild is the sovereign defense authority of Veridia Metropolis, operating under a direct imperial mandate."

"We are voting signatories to the continental defense treaty," she added. "We do not sit behind a pillar."

Haddon let out a sharp, mocking chuckle.

"With all due respect, ma’am," he said without any atom of respect as he leaned over the counter. "This is the Imperial Capital, not your provincial backwater. The lower tiers and private boxes are reserved for established High Council lineages and Tier-One syndicates."

"You country guilds should be grateful the ministry even granted you observer badges," he sneered. "Now take your passes and move along. You’re holding up the line."

A young noble standing nearby, wearing the blazing sun insignia of Solar Crown Guild, chuckled softly.

"Look at them," the young noble murmured to his companions with a smirk. "A former delivery boy and a provincial upstart guild thinking they can sit with the High Council. They don’t even know their place."

Evren didn’t get angry; he didn’t raise his voice, and he didn’t reach for a weapon.

He simply stepped up to the counter and looked Steward Haddon dead in the eye.

The air around Evren grew heavy. A terrifying pressure settled over the registration desk, making the crystal tablet in Haddon’s hands vibrate.

"Check your records again, Steward," Evren said coldly. "Before you make a mistake you can’t undo."

Haddon swallowed hard, a bead of cold sweat suddenly forming at his temple. He tried to speak, but the suffocating weight in the air locked the breath in his throat.

Before Haddon could reply, the heavy clatter of iron-shod boots rang out across the rotunda.

CLACK. CLACK. CLACK.

The crowd instantly parted.

Eight Golden Arbiters in gilded armor marched through the foyer, holding their halberds straight. And walking in the center of the escort was Grand Arbiter Kincaid.

He wore his formal black-and-gold judicial mantle, his sharp eyes scanning the hall like daggers. "What is the meaning of this commotion?" Kincaid’s deep voice boomed across the marble floor.

The entire foyer fell dead silent.

Steward Haddon snapped out of his trance, trembling as he bowed low. "G-Grand Arbiter! It’s nothing, sir! Just a minor disagreement over provincial seating arrangements..."

"Provincial seating arrangements?" Kincaid repeated, stopping right in front of the desk.

His piercing gaze locked onto Haddon, and the temperature in the room seemed to plummet. "Haddon," Kincaid said coldly. "Since when does a protocol clerk have the authority to alter an imperial decree?"

Haddon turned as pale as a sheet. "I... I was only following the High Council’s standard guidelines for regional guilds..."

"Apex Guild does not operate under standard regional guidelines," Kincaid cut him off with a thunderous tone.

Kincaid reached into his cloak and pulled out an imperial golden scroll, holding it up for the entire room to see. "Apex Guild holds an Imperial Emergency Standing Summons, issued under my personal seal," he declared. "In matters of continental defense, an Imperial Sovereign Summons supersedes all factional seating charts."

The delegates in the rotunda gasped.

Whispers broke out like wildfire across the hall.

"An Imperial Sovereign Summons?!"

"Kincaid granted them High Standing?!"

The young noble from Solar Crown went stiff, his smirk completely vanishing as he stared at Evren in disbelief.

Kincaid turned toward the senior commander of the Golden Arbiters.

"Escort Chairman Evren and the Apex delegation to the upper gallery," Kincaid commanded. "They are assigned to Sovereign Box Four."

Gasps echoed through the room once more.

Sovereign Box Four!

There were only six Sovereign Boxes in the entire hall, perched on the highest private tier directly overlooking the debate floor. They were historically reserved for founding imperial houses and the most powerful guilds in the realm.

"Right away, Grand Arbiter," the commander saluted with a fist over his chest.

Kincaid looked at Evren and gave him a brief, respectful nod. "Welcome to the Capital, Chairman Evren. Take your rightful place."

"Thank you, Grand Arbiter," Evren replied smoothly.

Evren, Amber, and Zephyra turned and walked toward the grand marble staircase, escorted by four armored Golden Arbiters.

Evren walked right past Steward Haddon without sparing him a second glance. The steward stood frozen behind the desk, clutching his chest and trembling in terror.

They ascended the wide staircase, leaving the whispering crowd behind them.

Minutes later, the enforcers opened the doors of Sovereign Box Four.

Inside was a luxurious private suite furnished with velvet armchairs, crystal decanters, and a curved polished brass railing that looked out over the entire amphitheater.

Evren walked up to the railing, resting his hands on the cool brass.

From here, they had an unobstructed view of the central debate floor below, where hundreds of delegates were taking their seats.

Amber stood at his left, a triumphant smile gracing her lips. "Look across the floor, Evren."

Evren raised his gaze.

Directly opposite their balcony, across the wide open expanse of the hall, sat Sovereign Box One.

Standing at the edge of that balcony was Director Silas Drake, the formidable patriarch of House Drake and master of Solar Crown Guild. Beside him sat Elder Brandon Caldwell, his face twisted in deep displeasure.

Silas Drake gripped the railing with his gloved hands, his icy glare locked directly onto Evren.

Evren didn’t flinch. He met Drake’s murderous gaze with an unbothered, confident smile.

Suddenly, a massive bronze gong struck at the center of the hall.

BUMMMM!

The deep vibration rolled through the arena, shaking the glass dome above. The Grand Herald stepped onto the central podium, raising an eagle-crested staff high into the air.

"Delegates of the realm!" the herald’s voice roared through the acoustic arrays. "The National Sovereign Guild Assembly is now officially in session!"
