Chapter 394: How Did It Turn Into a Food Show?

  • Next Chapter

As evening approached, the wooden cabin was completely built.

On his first day arriving at the island, Ning Fei wasn't in a hurry to explore its mysteries. Instead, he patiently built a wooden cabin by the river.

The cabin was perfectly square. Without carpentry tools to refine the details, it didn't look particularly exquisite.

But Ning Fei's craftsmanship was excellent. Even using only his Longsword for basic woodwork, the finished cabin looked incredibly sturdy.

Inside the cabin, Ning Fei used the thickest tree trunk to fashion a wooden bed.

He had cleaved the trunk in half, leaving the flat side facing up and propping the bottom with smaller logs. The surface area was actually about the size of a double bed.

Seeing this scene, all the netizens were stunned.

"Leave it to someone from Huaxia to build a house as their very first step!"

"It turns out the people of Huaxia are really this amazing at architecture!"

"This guy is using Huaxia kung fu! Everyone in Huaxia knows kung fu, that's terrifying!"

The foreign netizens heatedly discussed Ning Fei's performance.

Of course, some people also mocked him:

"He wasted a whole day instead of looking for food. Let's see how he survives!"

"In the wild, food is the most important thing!"

"He hasn't eaten anything all day! He's going to starve!"

There were many people watching the show.

The contestants all had their own distinct survival styles, but Ning Fei was the only one leisurely enough to build a full wooden cabin.

At this time, sitting on a tree stump outside the cabin, Ning Fei also felt a bit hungry.

Simultaneously, his Wristband beeped, and the Production Crew issued the first mission.

"Mission: Capture a creature of the Tropical Rainforest and eat it."

"Mission Reward: One Military Knife."

Ning Fei's expression didn't change as he read the prompt.

He knew what the Production Crew was thinking.

Most viewers tuning into the Wilderness Survival show wanted to see just how hardcore the contestants could be—eating raw insects, drinking blood, and living like savages.

Foreigners really liked these bloody, violent spectacles.

Ning Fei remained calm.

Sitting on the stump, he let out a sharp whistle.

"Little falcon, go catch two fish. Make sure you check the species clearly so you don't grab the wrong ones," Ning Fei said.

Little falcon took to the air at his command, soaring high into the sky.

Ning Fei then started gathering the remaining wood and lit a bonfire by the river.

His veteran fans had already started ordering takeout, preparing for the upcoming mukbang segment. Eating along with Ning Fei always made their own meals taste vastly better.

The foreign netizens were still bewildered.

"What is this guy from Huaxia doing?"

"Isn't he going to find food?"

"Is he planning to boil leaves?"

While they were still confused, a large white bird descended from the sky, its talons clutching a massive freshwater fish.

The pristine environment of the Tropical Rainforest meant the fish here grew to impressive sizes.

Seeing the fish, Ning Fei smiled happily.

Then, Little falcon shot back into the sky to hunt for another one.

Ning Fei took out some mushrooms and wild fruits from his small satchel.

"I picked these from the trees while I was chopping wood earlier. There are too many varieties of wild fruits here, and most of them are either toxic or hallucinogenic. Since I didn't have much time, this was all I could gather."

As he spoke, Ning Fei began to clean the fish.

With the stream right beside him, he easily washed both fish and sliced them into chunks.

Ning Fei's knife skills had always been incredible right from the start.

Even though he was currently using a Longsword, it didn't slow his chopping speed in the slightest.

He removed the fish's head and tail, then tossed its body into the air. A flurry of sword shadows flashed, and the fish was reduced to a pile of evenly sized chunks.

This scene once again stunned the foreign netizens.

"My God! Is this how everyone from Huaxia uses a blade?"

"That's insane! He chopped up the fish just like that?"

Afterwards, he built a simple rack and placed his pot over the fire.

He took out a fruit and squeezed it hard.

Transparent oil oozed from the fruit and dripped into the heated pot with a loud sizzle.

"This is a Hot Oil Fruit, a special fruit native to the Tropical Rainforest that is rich in plant oils."

"It acts as a perfect substitute for the cooking oil we use for everyday meals."

Ning Fei placed the fish chunks into the pot to fry. The main purpose of this step was to cook the meat through.

Making fish soup wasn't complicated. It simply required heating oil in a pan, frying the fish until cooked, and then adding water and ingredients to simmer until the broth turned a rich, milky white.

Realizing the large volume of fish, Ning Fei quickly squeezed another Hot Oil Fruit into the pot to ensure there was enough oil, then began stirring the chunks with a small wooden plank.

Once the fish was cooked, he scooped a pot full of water from the stream. He tossed in the wild fruits, mushrooms, and seasonings, then set it back over the flames to simmer slowly.

His smooth cooking process left the viewers thoroughly bewildered.

"What is going on here?"

"Isn't this supposed to be a survival show?"

"How did it turn into a food show?"

The Production Crew's feed cut to the other contestants.

The other participants were either eating bugs or struggling desperately to catch fish. Some unlucky ones had encountered venomous snakes and were so frightened they quit the competition on the spot.

No one was having an easy time.

The Production Crew was deliberately highlighting the dangers of the Tropical Rainforest.

It was a place filled with peril, a forbidden zone for mankind.

All of this was done to keep the audience's excitement high.

But the moment the feed cut back to Ning Fei, the entire atmosphere shifted.

A wooden cabin, a babbling stream, and the smoke of a cooking fire.

Ning Fei was comfortably simmering his fish soup.

The sun was just beginning to set.

Gazing at the distant sunset, he slowly stirred the fish and mushrooms in the broth with a wooden stick.

The soup was thick and milky white, wafting with gentle wisps of steam.

When it was almost ready, Ning Fei found two small branches, peeled off the bark to use as chopsticks, and slowly began to eat.

Watching him eat the fish, even the foreign viewers couldn't help but gulp down their saliva.

"Where did this guy come from? He's unbelievable!"

They finally realized just how formidable Ning Fei was, and exclamations of praise rose one after another.

"This is a true master!"

"He's really just here for a vacation! And here I thought he brought a pot and seasonings because he lacked experience!"

"The people of Huaxia call him an immortal, which basically means a god."

"He's definitely something else."

While sipping his fish soup, Ning Fei teased Little falcon for a moment, then gazed into the distance.

Just then, another contestant happened to pass by. Spotting Ning Fei, the man looked visibly stunned, clearly not expecting to find such a beautiful wooden cabin built out here.

Ning Fei ignored him, his expression remaining cool and detached.

The man left shortly after.

Ning Fei took another sip of broth, then slowly said:

"Today is the first day. Life in the wild has only just begun."

"It's even tougher here than I imagined."

"I can feel the humidity in the air constantly rising."

"If nothing unexpected happens, it will rain tonight."

"In the Tropical Rainforest, rain is a frequent occurrence, and the rainfall here is incredibly abundant. For humans trying to survive out here, rain is nothing short of a disaster."

"When I was building the cabin earlier, I deliberately stuffed some thin vines into the gaps in the wooden roof to make it as waterproof as possible."

"Tomorrow, I'll see if I can find some oil wax or similar materials to completely seal out the rain."

Having finished his fish soup, Ning Fei returned to his cabin to rest, thoroughly satisfied.

Today was only the first day, so he had just built a simple wooden cabin. After tomorrow, he would actually have time to go out and take in the scenery.

That night, just as Ning Fei expected, a light rain began to fall across the Tropical Rainforest.

Safe inside his wooden cabin, Ning Fei slept very peacefully. However, many of the other contestants weren't nearly as lucky.
