Chapter 964: Chapter 371: Unpredictable Future (Final Chapter Part 2)
Yu Leqing snapped back to reality, a blush inexplicably rising on her face. Then, she momentarily lost the rationality and analytical ability typical of a strong woman, even her language organization faltered a bit, and she shyly said,
“Oh, are you in a hurry?”
“I’m quite free. But isn’t Miss Yu tight on time?”
Yu Leqing dared not meet his eyes, her smile somewhat unnatural,
“Well, not exactly. Hmm… an hour feels a bit inadequate. My parents might scold me for being disrespectful. So, perhaps we could extend the date to another hour, or no, half… half an hour should be enough.”
Fan Wubing curiously observed her.
Yu Leqing looked down, somewhat nervous, unlocking her phone repeatedly.
After a while, Fan Wubing chuckled,
“Miss Yu, I won’t hold you up then. I can explain to your parents, should be able to give them a satisfactory answer.”
“This…”
“No worries, I won’t speak badly of you.”
Fan Wubing started to get up.
Yu Leqing panicked a little. She didn’t know why she felt this way, her usual calmness completely gone as she grabbed Fan Wubing and said,
“I think you’re a great person. Perhaps we could chat a little longer? You see, I don’t think I’m lacking either. Although my initial attitude might not have been great, that’s only because my family was pressuring me too much. How about we add each other on WeChat and chat there? I hope you can get to know me better.”
Yu Leqing was twenty-seven this year. Yet at this moment, she felt like a kid. She realized her words were naive, but she didn’t know how to express them to keep Fan Wubing with her.
A blind date is a very practical social activity. But right now, she didn’t care at all about Fan Wubing’s income, whether he had a car or a house… She just wanted to have a good conversation with this man, regardless of any material things. She almost instinctively felt that Fan Wubing might be the kind of person one wouldn’t encounter again if missed.
Fan Wubing said gently, “Miss Yu, perhaps you should calm down a bit first.”
Yu Leqing’s self-esteem was somewhat wounded. Her aunt hadn’t deceived Fan Wubing; she was indeed excellent, and though her personality was not of the gentle and caring type, neither was she arrogant and harsh. She gritted her teeth and asked,
“You don’t like me?”
Fan Wubing could guess her thoughts and, not wanting to hurt her, resorted to a benevolent lie,
“Actually, I’m gay.”
Yu Leqing stared blankly at Fan Wubing, with a look as if the sky had fallen. She tried to muster a smile,
“Oh, I see.”
“Sorry.”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. I don’t have a prejudice against people like you. I’ll explain it to my parents myself, don’t worry, I won’t mention this.”
“Mm.”
Watching Yu Leqing leave, Fan Wubing summoned the waiter for the bill before departing as well.
He walked down the pedestrian street, weaving through the crowd, lost in deep confusion. He asked himself in his heart,
“What do I really want?”
Night had blanketed the earth,
He wandered aimlessly forward, as if the entire world had shrunk down to just him.
Yet in that moment, a fleeting glance. He saw, under a streetlight, a young woman standing, waiting for something. She was clad in a layered ancient dress, interwoven in sky blue and floral yellow, standing gracefully like jade. Her dark long hair gleamed under the streetlight.
She seemed out of place with the bustling pedestrian street. But, it was as though no one else could see her.
She stood ahead, appearing as the sole beautiful vista between heaven and earth.
Behind her were modern high walls of concrete, steel, and glass, yet under the atmosphere she created, they transformed into a lit-up elegant pavilion.
Fan Wubing’s disarrayed thoughts were instantly focused.
His pupils, trembling, gradually calmed. He stepped forward without any intention of turning back, resolutely heading toward her.
Inside him, in his mind, it felt as though a shackle had shattered, memories from a vast starry sky rushed forth, and the time during surgery when he went through that nearly shattered ‘grand dream’ was instantly restored. He remembered everything.
Thus, he embraced the woman under the streetlight warmly, murmuring,
“Man’Er, long time no see.”
Fu Manman stroked his trembling shoulder with a smile, “I’ve finally found you.”
Luo Qingyao jealously shouted, “I’m here too, I’m here too! Call out to me too!”
Fan Wubing smiled a little, “Mm, junior sister.”
Luo Qingyao giggled, like a child satisfied after a treat.
Yet at this moment,
Yu Leqing accidentally passed by and saw them. She was incredulous, angry, and shouted,
“Didn’t you say you were gay!”
Fan Wubing immediately fell into an awkward situation, hurriedly trying to explain.
Unexpectedly, Yu Leqing wasn’t mad at him but instead let go of her resentment. After a good laugh, wiping away her tears, she said,
“That’s right, that’s right. I figured someone like you couldn’t possibly be single.”
She gazed at Fu Manman, marveling inwardly at this woman; beauty seemed to be the least of her virtues.
She maintained her dignity, smiled gracefully and said, “Seeing you, I instantly understood. Exceptional people naturally attract each other. Best wishes to you both.”
Having said that, she left without looking back.
Fu Manman watched her back and said,
“Women from civilized worlds truly are different, so carefree.”
Fan Wubing displayed a teasing smile, “Women like her are few even on Earth.”
“Is that so?”
Fan Wubing gradually understood everything. He looked up at the night sky, murmuring,
“This is the unpredictable future.”
