Our Anniversary, You Chose Her – I Chose Divorce
Chapter 895 She Won’t Come
Chloe Reed lowered her eyes slightly, concealing the swirling emotions within them. "It’s nothing."
Daniel Hayes breathed a sigh of relief. "That’s good."
After hanging up, Chloe looked out the car window. Her heart simply wouldn’t settle.
She wondered why Walker Grant would hide this matter. What exactly did he mean by it? What did he consider Iris Yates to be? He kept swearing that he loved her, but when he watched her become so anxious and unsettled because Iris had been taken away, what was actually going through his head?
Chloe felt a chill seep from the very depths of her soul, and she subconsciously rubbed her arms. Disappointment and confusion spread through her heart like a rising tide, crashing against her constantly wavering thoughts.
Finally, that last lingering trace of hesitation was washed away. A glint of absolute determination surfaced in her eyes.
It was time to make a clean break.
She was going to separate from him anyway. Now that she knew the truth about what had happened, there was nothing left to hesitate over.
Just then, her phone rang again. She pulled it out and saw it was a call from Fiona Linton.
"Hello, Fiona."
"Are you done on your end?" Fiona asked. "We’ve already finished up over here. Do you want to come over?"
"I won’t be coming over," Chloe replied, her tone growing a few degrees colder. "Fiona, my throat is completely fine now. From now on, just focus all your efforts on treating him."
Fiona paused for a moment before realizing something. Her voice turned much more serious. "Wait... Chloe, what happened? Why are you suddenly saying this? If something is going on, please don’t hide it from me."
"When we originally invited you here, it was to treat both of us," Chloe said. "Since I’m perfectly fine now, you naturally need to dedicate your efforts to treating his eyes."
Fiona remained silent for a couple of seconds before speaking again. "Something isn’t right... What exactly is going on? Can you speak clearly to me?"
Chloe gave a faint smile. "I don’t mean anything else by it. My thought process is very simple: I just hope his eyes will recover as soon as possible."
That way, she wouldn’t owe him anything anymore.
"So, you’re really not coming over?" Fiona asked.
"Yeah."
Chloe hummed in agreement and then hung up the phone.
Inside the psychology clinic.
Fiona clutched her phone, turning to look at the man sitting on the sofa with white gauze wrapped around his eyes. Her gaze grew a bit complicated. "Chloe has some other things to take care of. Let’s go ahead without her."
"What is she doing?" Walker Grant asked faintly.
Fiona let out a dry laugh. "How could I pry into her business? Come on, let’s head back."
"Aren’t you two good friends?" Walker pressed.
Fiona choked on her words for a moment before replying, "Even good friends have their own secrets. We can’t share absolutely everything with each other. Do you share every single secret with your friends?"
"She has secrets now," Walker said.
His tone was tinged with a deep sense of loneliness, as if he were lost in a daze. He didn’t say anything else after that.
Seeing him like this, Fiona sighed softly. "Let’s go. We should head back first. The weather outside is bad; it might snow soon."
After a moment, Walker finally stood up and allowed her to support him as they left the clinic.
When they returned to Jardinelle, Chloe wasn’t there. Walker went straight back to his room and dialed his bodyguard’s number.
He had arranged for bodyguards to protect her from the shadows, so they naturally knew of her whereabouts.
