Chapter 788: He Admitted It, He Just Missed Her

"Did he pay you more than I did?"

Walker Grant’s emotionless voice rang out, dropping the temperature inside the car by several degrees.

Fiona Linton was left completely speechless. She sighed inwardly, wondering why she couldn’t just hold her tongue. He was a paying customer, after all; she definitely needed to be more careful next time.

Walker spoke up again. "You’re her friend. She didn’t tell you she was coming back, nor did she ask you out to eat. Aren’t you angry?"

Fiona blinked and looked at him. "Are you trying to drive a wedge between us?"

"I’m merely stating a fact," Walker replied.

"Hah, don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to. Chloe and I are friends, so I’m not going to nitpick over things like this," Fiona retorted. "She’s just being polite by treating the others to a meal. Once she’s done, she’ll still come back, and we’ll get to spend a lot more time together."

Fiona wasn’t about to fall for his trap. Having analyzed his thoughts perfectly, she added, "Just admit it. You’re jealous. You just wanted her to run straight to you the moment she got back."

"Yes." Walker actually admitted it. He lowered his head slightly and said, "I came to pick her up. I wanted to give her a surprise."

Fiona turned back to face the front. Shaking her head with a sigh, she said, "That depends on whether she even wants this surprise. Let’s go. I’m hungry, so let’s go get some food too."

From the driver’s seat, Daniel Hayes asked in confusion, "Where to?"

Fiona rubbed her chin. "Let’s just go to the same place as Chloe."

Daniel chuckled. "Alright."

Fiona couldn’t help but mentally praise herself for being such a good Samaritan. For the sake of the money, she figured she might as well help him out.

Upon arriving at the restaurant, Preston Vance immediately asked the waiter for a private dining room. His group walked inside, and Fiona and Walker followed right on their heels.

As Daniel guided Walker into the establishment, Fiona approached the waiter. "Do you have any private rooms available?"

The waiter shook his head regretfully. "I’m so sorry, but the last private room was just booked."

Hearing this, Fiona’s eyes immediately lit up. "I know the people who just came in," she said. "I’ll go talk to them, and we can just join their table."

The waiter looked at her suspiciously, telling her she could go and speak with them. He couldn’t help but wonder why they hadn’t simply come in together if they were part of the same group.

Fiona immediately headed upstairs and pushed open the door to the private room.

Chloe Reed and her companions had just sat down. Hearing the noise, they glanced over. When Chloe saw that the newcomer was Fiona, a warm smile appeared on her face.

"Fiona."

Fiona ran over and pulled her into a tight hug. "Chloe! I missed you so much! Did you miss me?"

"Mhm." Chloe nodded. "I did."

Fiona let out a soft huff of laughter. "Did you really? You didn’t even tell me you were coming back. If I hadn’t gone to the station to pick you up, I wouldn’t have even known you were in town."

Chloe looked at her in surprise, wondering when Fiona had gone to pick her up. She genuinely hadn’t seen her at all!

"And it wasn’t just me," Fiona teased. "Someone here has been thinking about you day and night, barely able to eat or sleep."

As soon as her words fell, Daniel walked in, supporting Walker by the arm.

"Chloe," Daniel greeted her with a cheerful chuckle.

Chloe gave him a slight nod before shifting her gaze to Walker. His eyes were still wrapped in white gauze, meaning he had to be physically guided just to walk. He tilted his head slightly, as if trying to pinpoint her location by the sound of their voices.

She walked straight up to him and reached out, taking his hand in hers.

The very next second, Walker grasped her hand in return.
