Chapter 1440: Chapter 1440: Dust Settles
"By then, there will be someone standing in front of you, speaking of fulfilling justice in the name of revenge. If that day truly comes, you’ll remember me today." Delacuri finished speaking calmly and waited for Pei Yan’s final judgment.
Murdering the heart! Delacuri’s words were equivalent to planting a Heart Demon in Pei Yan’s heart by using himself as an example. Has Pei Yan really never slain an innocent along his journey? Forget the Vlad family; how many Demon Race families have perished because of him? How many disciples in the Daoist Plane have been implicated by him? Are all these people really unforgivable sinners? Pei Yan once asked himself this question in the silence of night.
Pei Yan realized he is no saint, perhaps he still retains a human kindness, but this kindness only extends to compatriots from the same plane. Just like the innocent in that town hall, Pei Yan would feel angry for their deaths, but he wouldn’t directly clash with the Bright Church over this matter. Of course, there are various considerations involved, but Pei Yan understands deep within that the fundamental reason is these people are outsiders, and it’s not worth incurring extra costs for their fairness.
To some extent, he also views these people’s lives as insignificant, just as Delacuri once did with his own teammates. Perhaps in the eyes of those whose families perished because of him, he too is a heartless, cold-blooded Demon.
"Does the dragon slayer ultimately become the evil dragon? Haha, being the evil dragon isn’t all bad." Pei Yan suddenly had this epiphany and said a sentence that startled his companions, who turned to look at him in surprise. Pei Yan took a deep breath, smiled, and said, "At least I haven’t lived too stifled, and although I’ve done some things too extreme, I hold myself blameless, and that’s enough! I’ll continue this way, and if one day someone indeed seeks revenge for it, then let them come! Delacuri, don’t try to create a Heart Demon with words as you die, I was ready to take the risks the day I embarked on the path of vengeance."
"What you think is no longer related to me, I’ve said all I have! Prepare your revenge then, let’s start! Even if you can wait, that mechanical avatar girl over there can’t wait much longer." As a Soul Body, Delacuri is particularly sensitive to souls, thus immediately seeing the soul residing within the mechanical avatar behind Pei Yan, which is the origin of conflict between two forces.
"I’m not a devil, say your goodbye to your son before you die! Then I’ll send your family on their way."
After these words, Delacuri lowered his head and thought for a moment, then looked at his two sons lying on the ground, his gaze passing over Radu and landing on Moira: "Do you hate me?"
"Father! It’s all because of me! Because of my..." Moira, seeing him ask this question at the last moment, lost control of his emotions, crying and struggling to stand up, only to be interrupted by Delacuri, "Don’t say it’s because of you that the family was destroyed, and don’t regret it either! This is my decision and unrelated to you."
Delacuri sighed helplessly and said, "After your brother became paralyzed, I was dejected for a long time because he was my dearest son. I believed only he could best take over the family’s inheritance from me. Even today, I still believe this! But things happened, and I couldn’t cure him no matter how hard I tried. Helplessly, I had to start cultivating the next heir. Cai Peishen, in terms of talent you didn’t surpass your brother, but because of this, you became too arrogant and acted without consideration. After your brother lost the inheritance position, your actions became more reckless. You thought showing off the Vlad family’s strength and glory would bear no cost.
"Therefore, when you got into trouble, I did not perform the transformation ceremony to revert you to your original identity. Instead, I sent you to the Master of Origin as a disciple. Everyone, including yourself, thought I had abandoned you, letting you become the family’s hidden pawn. But the truth isn’t like that! You were always the second heir I was determined to cultivate, all I wanted was for you to undergo more trials, only there could you break the Blood Race’s limitations, learn more, and become more powerful! However, all these plans were disrupted by the appearance of Pei Yan; I tell you this at the end not wanting you to leave the world with this misunderstanding."
"Father~!" Moira heard the genuine emotions revealed at the end by his father, feeling remorse and crying out in pain.
"Do it!" After saying this, Delacuri closed his eyes and remained silent, never looking at his youngest son Radu or speaking a word to him.
"Won’t you say a few words to your younger son?"
Delacuri’s silent response spoke volumes, Pei Yan saw this and no longer hesitated, nodding to Ye Ruozai, who then activated the Divine Artifact’s power. With a flash of red light, a flame rose from the incense burner, the soul body formed from blue smoke showing a painful and twisted expression, yet Delacuri retained his dignity till the end, not making a sound until completely devoured by the flames and smoke dispersed.
"Father!" Seeing this, Moira burst forth with the last of his physical strength, leaping up only to be grabbed by the throat by Pei Yan.
"Everything started with you, today our grudges end with you too! It’s time for closure."
"Uh~uh~!" Moira, choking, tried to say something, but as Pei Yan’s fingertips sliced through his skin, the remaining essence of his bloodline was rapidly absorbed, leaving him unable to utter a single word as his body shriveled like a deflated balloon.
After confirming Moira’s complete annihilation, Pei Yan tossed the withered corpse aside, walked up to the trembling and pale Radu, reaching for his throat.
"Why?"
Radu’s unexpected shout made Pei Yan’s hand pause an inch from his throat, Radu lifted his head, his face full of resentment and unwillingness, questioning Pei Yan, "Why? All disasters stemmed from him; I didn’t kill any of you! Why should I give them burial? Why! Why didn’t he look at me even once at the end, why am I so excellent and so hard-working? Even with one of them paralyzed and the other making a huge mistake shaming the clan, he still wouldn’t regard me as his heir! Why?"
"What does that have to do with me?" Unwilling to answer all his whys, Pei Yan grasped his opponent’s throat and began absorbing the essence of his bloodline.
"Uh~ah!"
