Chapter 1424: Absolute Advantage
Chapter 1424: Chapter 1424: Absolute Advantage
Leman was the first to leap out not because he was cowardly and sought to escape alone, but because given the current situation, there could not be only this one point of enemies infiltrating the house; it was likely there were still other ambushes outside, making the first to leap out more dangerous! Knowing this well, Leman did not use the window but rather chose a random wall to break through and escape.
Just as his body was in mid-air, Leman prepared for an attack, quickly scanning the surroundings without spotting an enemy. When his feet had just touched the ground, he noticed something wrong: the flat earth had turned into a mass of swamp-like soft mud. In a stumble, his feet sank into the mire, with the noxious mud seemingly about to pull him in entirely. Leman, reacting swiftly, decisively severed his own feet, pressing his hand against the wall behind him to spring back into the air.
"Go! Do not land; there are ambushes around every corner! Leave this place immediately!" Leman, leaping into the air, saw his feet rapidly recondense into form from blood before issuing a warning to those leaping out after him.
Seeing this, the others no longer attempted to land and retaliate; instead, they ascended higher into the air. Just then, over ten beams of light as bright as daylight suddenly illuminated from all directions, converging on the group leaping from the wall’s gap.
"Ah!" The Blood Race caught off guard by the strong illumination felt their eyes were about to be blinded by the glare, forcing them to descend in a fluster to the ground. Others, attempting to resist until the end, realized that the strong lights were not merely bright; the high temperature emitted upon illumination gave them a severe burning sensation.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
One after another, blood mists exploded in the air, the scarlet fog successfully blocking the strong lights. The Blood Race hidden within the blood mist took the opportunity to spot a person in the distance, swinging their hand mid-air to unleash over ten disc-like small suns, from which the light beams emanated.
"Ah~ah~!"
"Damn it! Who are you people?"
"They are abilities users! They are abilities users!"
Gleeman, hiding within the blood mist while biding their time, soon heard exclamations and combat sounds from indoors and those descending to the ground. As they turned to the source of the sound, their hearts skipped a beat. Figures emerged from the void, and waves of attacks surged nonstop like tides towards the comrades stranded on the ground. These adversaries evidently knew the weaknesses of the Blood Race beforehand; these incessant attacks left no breathing space. Physical and thermal attacks alternated, immediately cleaning up the blood after heavily injuring the Blood Race. Faced with counterattacks from the Blood Race’s spells, these opponents did not panic in the slightest. Once someone was hit by a spell, they immediately retreated, and another took their place. The retreating person reappeared from the void a few moments later, their Blood Race spell completely neutralized.
Over forty people! To face his small squad of fifteen, the opponents had deployed three times their number. Leman, fighting mid-air while observing the environment, immediately deduced upon seeing the attacking numbers and methods that these adversaries were the very ones pursuing him, the source of his recent terror, Tiao Peiyan’s pursuers. Confronted with such an overwhelming onslaught, he truly didn’t know whether to feel honored or mournful.
"Escape! Follow the pre-planned arrangements and escape!" Upon shouting in the Blood Race’s secret language, Leman unhesitatingly used the Blood Race’s escape secret technique, the Blood Escape Technique. This technique exacts a high price on the caster; besides consuming one’s life force and a significant amount of blood essence and source energy, even a small mistake can lower one’s realm. Therefore, under normal circumstances, the Blood Race would not perform such a technique unless in dire straits.
The high cost was matched by its impressive effect, which was that most blocking means could not effectively prevent its escape. Unless you were inside an independently sealed space, or using a grand array to completely isolate this realm from the bigger world, the Blood Escape Technique could still break through sieges and escape to freedom.
Currently, the Investigative Bureau evidently had no time to set up such an array. Leman understood well that facing a siege from such a unit, rather than prolonging the engagement and exhausting most of his energies before finally using the Blood Escape Technique to flee, it would be more straightforward to execute the worst-case scenario plan he’d previously devised and withdraw immediately. This way, he could retain some strength to discuss the next step.
As soon as his orders were issued, his surrounding comrades understood and immediately employed the Blood Escape Technique. In an instant, amidst the onslaughts, several figures transformed into blood streaks, fleeing thousands of miles and disappearing into the horizon.
"Captain Wang, it seems a few escaped!" The young man who cast the light beams descended gracefully from afar and landed beside Wang Wenze, looking at the fading blood light on the horizon with emotion: "They run so fast that there’s no stopping them!"
"Someone will deal with them; we’ll handle our own matters and not let a single one of these left behind escape." Wang Wenze withdrew his gaze from the sky and looked toward the seven or eight Blood Race members still present, his wrist adjusting as several tattooed figures separated from his body to join the battle.
"Yes!"
Ten minutes later, a thousand miles away, inside an old, dilapidated manor, a heavily dust-covered portrait hanging on the wall, perhaps of the manor’s nth-generation owner, suddenly began to sway without wind. As the amplitude of its motion increased, the frame finally could not withstand the agitation, and with a crash, it fell from the wall. Following the thud of the frame hitting the ground, a series of glass-breaking sounds emanated from the wall where the portrait had hung. Soon the entire wall was soaked with dark red blood. Thin streams of blood trickled out from the cracks in the wall.
As the blood flowed faster, the wall behind seemed to open like a tap, quickly washed over by torrents of blood, revealing a cavity in the wall with several broken glass vessels.
"Cough! Cough! Cough!" Each figure struggled to reform from the blood. As each face appeared and opened their mouths, they all gasped for fresh air as if they had just washed ashore after nearly drowning.
Gleeman, the strongest among them, recovered the fastest. Wobbling, he stood up from the grotesque blood and walked slowly to a step to sit and clean himself while surveying his surroundings. Only when he realized no one else would emerge did he speak in a disheartened tone: "Only five of us made it out!"
"The remaining ones aren’t at the Count’s level, so the risks of employing the Blood Escape Technique are higher, and so are their hesitations," Matilda responded helplessly while slumping on the floor. A Blood Race Count equates to a seventh-grade abilities user, and Blood Race below Counts have a higher chance of decreasing their realm when using the Blood Escape. If Blood Race members below that realm attempt it, there’s even a danger of expending too much blood essence and failing to consolidate themselves, leading to their demise.
