Others Summon, I Forge Beast Armor
Chapter 188: Giant Mandrake
Fiona fought with her sword and directed her elephant to trample the monsters attacking from all sides.
Fiona said, “Left! Stop that one from reaching Rey!”
The elephant swung its long trunk, producing a loud trumpet sound, which transformed into powerful waves that knocked several monsters to the ground.
So it charged forward, trampling them underfoot.
“Alright! Now, behind you!”
She stopped a monster trying to attack her beast from behind, slashing its neck with her sword, then turned to another enemy.
“Don’t let them surround us!” Fiona instructed urgently. “Charge forward!”
The elephant trumpeted again, scaring off the monsters in its path, then trampling those who couldn’t escape.
Nearby, Rey was fighting with her wolf in a different way, as Rey did not have a weapon.
Rey used the futuristic watch on her wrist to fight.
The same way some hunters use robotic monocles or other gadgets.
Rey’s futuristic watch has tools to engage in the battle, like its display tracking the monsters and offering information to adjust her and her summon’s strategy.
“Three coming from the right. Keep them away from me, Agni!”
Agni, her fox-wolf, came to her rescue and bit the near monster and ripped it away from the others.
When another monster attacked from behind, Agni unleashed a gust of wind that sent it stumbling sideways because Agni had wind elemental abilities.
“Good boy,” Rey said. “Now, don’t chase too far—stay close!”
The wolf fought like any ordinary wolf—using its teeth, claws, and speed—but its wind powers made its attacks even more dangerous, as the wind helped it accelerate, change direction, or knock opponents off balance.
Meanwhile, Troy and his jaguar were the most troublesome to the monsters because Troy’s jaguar was very savage.
However, Drew was the one responsible for their confidence after transforming into his shake beast.
But morphing into your beast cannot last forever, so Drew targets the strongest monsters and makes the most of every second his transformation lasts.
Summoners can unlock innate skills that allow them to transform into beasts.
There are two types of beast transformation skills: Beast Morph and Beast Fusion.
Although both are forms of beast transformation, they are not the same.
Beast Morph allows a summoner to transform into their own beast, fully assuming that beast’s physical form.
It can be a partial or complete morph.
Beast Morph requires an extremely high energy expenditure, and not every summoner is capable of it.
So, Drew’s ability to use Beast Morph is presumably due to his Silver-rank summoner status.
Meanwhile, “Beast Fusion” is the act of a Summoner fusing with their beast to become one.
This differs from Beast Morph because Beast Fusion requires even more energy and is rarer, meaning that only a few summoners can fuse with their beast.
It is considered a premium skill.
Soon after, the number of monsters began to decrease, no longer appearing as frequently as before, so Troy and his team quickly killed all the monsters left.
The timing was perfect because Drew finally exhausted all the energy maintaining his transformation, was forced to de-transform, and returned to a vegetative state.
He collapsed helplessly to the ground, panting.
“Drew!” Rey called out, rushing to his side and immediately taking careful care of her brother.
She summoned his wheelchair and helped him back in it.
Drew groaned in pain, but after drinking a potion Rey gave him, he felt better.
Fiona looked around and found everyone unharmed, as their summons had dealt with the monsters in the area, and Drew had recovered from his transformation.
“It seems Kingsley must have killed the mother of the nest,” she said. “So fast?”
Troy wasn’t surprised and led the way, assuming Luke would be waiting for them.
But as they entered the next corner, he stopped in his tracks.
Before them was an empty space, black and vast.
The place had become a void, except for an open door in the distance leading to the boss chamber.
Luke was standing in the center of the room, busy with system notifications, and did not notice them entering.
Fiona demanded, “Luke Kingsley, what happened here?”
Luke finally turned around and said, “Oh, you’re here. I unleashed something very powerful, and it wiped everything away.”
Drew and Ray exchanged bewildered glances, for even with their experience, they had never witnessed such an attack, capable of leveling an entire area.
“Anyway, let’s keep going and kill the boss,” Luke said.
But Fiona used her hand to block his face, saying, “That’s enough, Kingsley. You’ve already helped us a lot. You stay here, we’ll deal with the boss. Afterwards, we’ll give you a share of
the reward, and then you can go back where you came from.”
“Fiona, don’t be so harsh on him,” Troy interjected. “He helped us a lot today.”
“It’s alright, Senior Troy,” Luke said, and he didn’t argue with Fiona, but simply walked aside.
Fiona looked at Luke with narrowed eyes as he agreed to stay without any resistance, but his confidence remained undiminished.
She thought the bureau sent a weak student in need of protection, but Luke Kingsley was the opposite. He cleared a nest by himself in a few minutes.
However, she didn’t want him to interfere with their boss fight, so she said to the rest of the team, “Let’s go.”
Luke stayed behind as they entered the boss chamber, and they were not aware that he was activating the powers of his chestplate.
The boss chamber resembled a new world, filled with never-seen species of roots and plants intertwined all around the ground, releasing toxic gas, surrounded by thorny vines and strange flowers.
In the center stands their target, the Giant Mandrake, a plant monster with a stout, root-like body, but it was very big in size.
At the bottom of the Giant Mandrake are twisted roots.
The Giant Mandrake has an unsightly humanoid upper body and leaves for a crown.
According to their research, every time the Giant Mandrake cries, it becomes bigger, so the more it cries, the more dangerous it becomes.
But fortunately, it wasn’t crying yet, just seemingly dormant, but emits a deadly sound when the group approaches.
“Everyone, get ready to take your positions! Ryder will draw its attention from the front, while my elephant attacks its roots. Rey, use your Wolf Wind ability to disrupt its movements. Drew, your cobra will stay agile and aim for its exposed roots. I will coordinate and attack its trunk. We must stop it from crying at all costs and not let ourselves be surrounded by its roots!”
With that, they advanced, but the giant mandrake didn’t show any meaningful reaction nevertheless.
“This thing should be making some noise now, right? Ryder, attack!” Troy said.
The Jaguar bit the Giant Mandrake, and it staggered and howled.
Then Fiona’s elephant crushed its roots, Drew’s cobra body coiled around the body to strangle it, and Rey’s wolf attacked from the side with wind until the Giant Mandrake fell.
Eventually, they killed the Giant Mandrake, and it gave them so many rewards.
But Fiona frowned because the experience points for a boss of this scale were too low, so she asked, “What do you think happened? Why did we get this low XP?”
“Experience points are distributed based on each person’s contribution, and we all contributed equally,” Drew replied. “Maybe this monster doesn’t have much experience to give at all.”
“No, it did have,” Rey interrupted, operating on her watch. “Most of the experience points were given to someone else. We just shared about 35%.”
Fiona realized what this meant and who it meant.
She clenched her teeth and fisted out of anger at being fooled.
