Chapter 335: Chapter 333: Class Reunion

The three got into the car. The vehicle left the city center, merging into the evening traffic as it headed toward the gathering.

Yang Xun gripped the steering wheel, his gaze fixed straight ahead.

Xiaolin sat in the back seat, glancing at Yang Xun from time to time. “You have to be on your best behavior at the party later,” she reminded him. “Whatever you do, don’t drop the ball.

“That crowd looks down their noses at everyone. If they think Yueyue found herself a deadbeat husband, who knows what kind of nasty things they’ll say.”

“Linlin, don’t scare him,” Xu Yue said, shaking her head with a smile.

“I’m just giving him a heads-up!” Xiaolin leaned back against the seat, a hint of gossip in her tone. “You have no idea. The class president told me today that all the guys who used to chase after Yueyue will be there. Especially that Young Master Jiang. What was his name again… Jiang something?”

“Are you talking about Jiang Yian?” Xu Yue asked, slightly confused.

“Who else could it be? He chased you for a long time back then.”

Xiaolin was too embarrassed to mention that the so-called Young Master Jiang had also contacted her many times, though she had brushed him off on every occasion.

Before long, the car pulled up to the entrance of an elegantly decorated private restaurant.

After Yang Xun parked, the three of them walked toward the main doors together.

As they traversed a small bluestone-paved path, the sounds of conversation and laughter drifted from ahead.

Xu Yue’s appearance caused the lively private dining room to fall silent for a moment. Several gazes shot over simultaneously, filled with obvious awe as they landed on her.

“Xu Yue! You’re finally here!”

A man in a tailored suit was the first to stand, hurrying over to greet her. He had handsome features and was decked out in designer brands from head to toe, exuding the aura of someone from a privileged background. However, the deep crinkling around his eyes when he smiled, coupled with his shifty, wandering gaze, made it glaringly obvious that he was a fickle playboy.

This was none other than Jiang Yian.

Yang Xun sneered inwardly. He knew that even if Xu Yue hadn’t married him, there was no way she would ever choose a man like this.

Jiang Yian stood before Xu Yue, his gaze appearing exceptionally affectionate. “It’s been a long time. You haven’t changed a bit.”

“Neither have you, Mr. Jiang,” Xu Yue said with a slight nod, her tone polite yet distant.

Jiang Yian smiled, shifting his gaze to Yang Xun. He looked him up and down, his smile remaining, but a probing note crept into his voice. “And this is?”

“My husband, Yang Xun,” Xu Yue announced clearly, wrapping her arm around Yang Xun’s with a sweet expression.

The air in the room seemed to freeze for a second.

Multiple pairs of eyes instantly zeroed in on Yang Xun. The stares ranged from curious and scrutinizing to faintly mocking.

A male classmate with the air of a nouveau riche laughed and said, “Xu Yue, why did you bring a bodyguard to a class reunion?”

Xu Yue cast a flat look at him, her tone brooking no argument. “I told you, this is my husband.”

The classmate chuckled. “My bad, I didn’t hear you clearly. It’s just that he’s dressed so plainly. Even the servants at my house don’t wear such cheap clothes.”

Yang Xun glanced down at his attire. He simply disliked wearing flashy designer brands and expensive watches, but his clothes were by no means cheap. They were perfectly suitable for formal occasions. He wondered why, in the eyes of this crowd, he looked like he was dressed in rags.

At this moment, Jiang Yian hastily interjected. “Don’t just stand there, everyone take a seat! We’re here to have a good time, let’s not let minor things ruin the mood.”

With his prompt, the others quickly invited Xu Yue and her two companions to sit down.

Nearly twenty people sat around the large circular table. Amidst the clinking of glasses, the atmosphere gradually livened up.

Dish after dish was served, and glasses of wine were poured one after another. The conversation shifted from amusing campus anecdotes of the past to their current jobs and lives.

Sitting beside Xu Yue, Yang Xun quietly ate his food. Occasionally, he helped deflect a toast aimed at his wife, but he made no effort to stand out. He was only here today to accompany his wife, not to crash the party. However, it was inevitable that someone’s curiosity would steer the conversation toward him.

“Xu Yue, where does your husband work?”

A woman in a champagne-colored dress seated diagonally across from them asked with a beaming smile. The question seemed casual, but she couldn’t hide the gloating edge in her voice.

Everyone in their circles knew that in order to take control of the Xu Family, Xu Yue had married an incompetent live-in husband. In the past, this woman had never been able to compare to Xu Yue in any aspect, but when it came to marriage, she felt she had won a complete victory.

Xu Yue set down her chopsticks, her tone completely natural. “He’s a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner.”

“Traditional Chinese medicine?” The woman in the dress slightly raised her eyebrows, the smile on her face tinged with subtle amusement. “It’s rare to see a TCM doctor this young. Which hospital is he at? Or does he have his own clinic?”

“Neither,” Xu Yue replied, keeping her tone flat and declining to elaborate.

“Well, that’s not bad either.” Jiang Yian smiled and took over the conversation, projecting his voice. “Being a doctor is a great profession—stable and respected. I know a few elderly TCM doctors who are all highly respected seniors in the field. I can introduce Mr. Yang to them. After all, a doctor has to be responsible for their patients. There’s no room for carelessness.”

Upon closer inspection, the patronizing charity in his words was obvious. A few people nearby exchanged knowing looks, and someone let out a low chuckle.

Yang Xun put down his chopsticks. His face was expressionless, and he didn’t respond. He merely glanced at Jiang Yian, letting his gaze rest on the man’s face for a fleeting second before looking away, acting as if he hadn’t heard a thing.

The hand holding Jiang Yian’s wine glass paused slightly. He clearly hadn’t expected this kind of reaction from Yang Xun. In his mind, this live-in son-in-law should have either awkwardly tried to explain himself or stubbornly fired back—both of which would only result in total humiliation for the guy.

But Yang Xun hadn’t said a single word. He had just thrown a glance and looked away. That complete and utter indifference caused all of Jiang Yian’s prepared remarks to catch in his throat.

“Alright, alright, let’s drop the subject! It’s rare for us to all get together, so let’s eat and drink to our hearts’ content!” the class president, who was sitting in the seat of honor, quickly smoothed things over.

The atmosphere grew lively once again as the topic shifted elsewhere.

Everyone started chatting about major investment projects. Jiang Yian regained his suave, confident demeanor, casually tossing out a conversation piece or two that flaunted his wealth and connections, drawing perfectly timed agreements from the people around him.

Having eaten his fill, Yang Xun put down his chopsticks and took a sip of tea. His gaze carelessly swept past a man wearing gold-rimmed glasses sitting opposite him. That man had been staring at him thoughtfully for a while now, as if trying to match his face to a specific memory.

Noticing Yang Xun looking his way, the bespectacled man suddenly smiled, as though he had remembered something. He turned to the woman in the dress next to him, his voice not overly loud but just enough for the few people nearby to hear. “Hey, I was wondering why he looked so familiar. I think I saw him over in East City a few months ago.”

The woman tilted her head in curiosity.

A mocking smile appeared on the man’s face as he raised his voice. “He was delivering takeout at the time! He was late, so someone was pointing a finger at his nose and cussing him out. I was about to drive off, so I saw it clear as day.”

As soon as the words fell, the private room plunged into dead silence.
