Chapter 292: 292: Hyena Beasts.
Ayra could sense the energy of her little ones through their pheromones, making it easier for her to track them down.
As she gave the others directions, no one questioned how she knew where the children were. She was their mother, after all, so they immediately followed her without asking any questions.
Together, they ventured deeper into the woods, continuing their search for the missing little ones.
---
It took them a while to search through the woods, following the lingering traces of the children’s energy until they finally arrived at a particular spot.
"That’s..." Rai muttered as they stood at a distance, staring at the somewhat chaotic scene ahead.
The others also came to a halt, their eyes fixed on the little ones who were trapped in the middle of a dangerous situation involving several wild beasts.
---
Black Hyena Beastmen had gathered at the scene. There were over thirty of them, all making malicious, laughter-like sounds as they prowled around and surrounded the little ones they had identified as their prey.
The children were trapped in the middle of the pack, with the Hyena Beastmen closing in on them from every direction.
Kellie and Minnie sat innocently on the ground, looking around without fully understanding the danger they were in. Meanwhile, their elder brothers, the triplet snakes and Zay, stood protectively around them, desperately trying to find a way to fight off the annoying Hyena Beastmen.
The Hyenas laughed as they circled the children, moving so quickly that it was difficult to land a successful attack on them. Their constant movements were clearly intended to confuse and distract their opponents.
Zay tried to blast them away with his flames, but the Hyenas were cunning. They dodged his attacks with ease, continuing to laugh as they surrounded the children.
Zay wasn’t yet smart enough to develop a proper strategy to take them down. He was still young, so all he could do was try his best to fight back while the Hyenas toyed with him.
The cunning beasts were already planning how to tear the children apart like helpless prey.
However, at that moment, Neris caught sight of Ayra and the others approaching to rescue them.
"Mama!" Neris called out happily.
"Mama!" Nat and Nyeon joined in, their voices filled with excitement. "Over here, Mama! You came for us!"
They were overjoyed to see their mother and the others finally arrive.
At their cries, the Hyenas paused and turned around. One by one, they shifted their attention towards Ayra and her group, sizing up the newcomers.
Ayra’s team had already drawn their weapons, preparing to strike at any moment. The Hyenas, on the other hand, began stepping back while quickly devising a strategy to deal with them.
There were over thirty of them, and they believed they had enough numbers to take down their opponents with the right attack.
"What do we do? Should we strike them down?" Kan asked.
"It might be risky since we’re somewhat outnumbered..." Rai replied. "We should at least come up with a plan first."
They turned towards Ayra, and Rai asked, "Do you have any plans?"
Ayra said nothing. Her gaze was fixed furiously on the Hyenas who had dared to threaten her little ones, and she was absolutely furious.
She was angry and more than ready to teach those annoying beasts a lesson they would never forget.
"I’ll handle it," Ayra declared firmly.
"..." Rai and Kan exchanged surprised glances before turning back to her.
"Are you sure? It’s... dangerous. How do you plan on handling all of them?" they asked, clearly concerned.
"They’re A-rank beasts, so they might be a little difficult for you all to deal with, especially since we’re outnumbered," Ayra explained, keeping her gaze on the Hyenas, who were already making their own plans.
"So I’ll handle them myself. I’ll signal you when it’s time to step in, so stay alert," she added, explaining her intentions in greater detail.
Rai slowly nodded, fully trusting Ayra and her abilities. They believed she was capable of handling whatever she had decided to take on.
Kan was still somewhat skeptical but eventually nodded as well. "Okay... We’ll stand by and wait."
Ayra nodded before turning her attention back to the Hyena Beastmen, who were watching her group closely, curious about what their opponents intended to do.
The Hyenas had already begun putting their plan into action. Some remained behind, keeping the little ones surrounded and preventing them from escaping, while the rest moved forward to attack the approaching group, laughing and making mocking sounds as they advanced.
They were confident in their abilities and believed they could take down all their opponents without much trouble.
However, when they saw Ayra approaching them alone, they became confused.
Ayra held her chin high as she walked towards them, stopping just a short distance away. The Hyena Beastmen stared at her before exchanging glances with one another.
They had expected the other males to step forward and fight. That was only natural, considering the situation. But instead, a female had approached them. An ordinary-looking female, no less!
The Hyena Beastmen burst into laughter as they continued staring at Ayra.
"What are you doing here? You’re just a female!"
"I guess she wants to die."
"Those males must be cowards if they sent a female to die first!"
"I guess we won’t even have to waste much time here. We can just finish her off immediately."
"Exactly! Then we can leave with the little gifts we’ve picked up!"
"Yes, yes!" they agreed, laughing and snickering as they stared at Ayra.
Ayra simply watched them without saying a word. She could hear their mocking laughter and insulting remarks, but she didn’t seem to care.
While they were busy looking down on her, she was already figuring out the best way to take them down.
"Don’t touch Mama!" Neris snapped angrily.
"Get your dirty hands off Mama, you evil, ugly beasts!" Nat shouted.
The little ones tried to break through the Hyenas surrounding them, but the beasts quickly tightened their formation, laughing mockingly as they prevented the children from escaping.
At that moment, Ayra glanced at her little ones and smiled reassuringly.
"Stay there quietly and look after your little siblings. Protect them, okay? I’ll come and get you as soon as possible," she promised, trying to calm their worries.
However, the Hyena Beastmen only laughed harder at her words.
"Is she nuts?"
"Save them? Does she think she can get past us?"
"She clearly came here to end her own life! And we’ll gladly give her the death she’s asking for!"
They burst into laughter, their mocking voices filling the woods as they prepared to attack Ayra.
